Rivers Crisis: Fubara Was Unfair To Us – Police by BeeBeeOoh(m): 8:35pm On Oct 07
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, says the outburst of Governor Similanayi Fubara on the eve of the Rivers Local Government election was needless.

Following some developments in the state, Fubara had accused Egbetokun of taking sides with some politicians in Abuja, an allegation the top cop denied.

The governor also accused the police of bias for withdrawing from providing security in the election. He had vowed to hold the IGP responsible of there was breakdown of law in the state.

“I am saying this here so that the IGP should be aware and just to know that any action that will bring a situation of lawlessness in this state and I think at the end of the day, he should be prepared to take responsibility,” Fubara had said at a press conference.

But responding in a statement which Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Egbetokun explained the role of the police in the crisis.

“In response to the misinformation circulating in the media space with regards to the actions of the Nigeria Police Force in the Rivers State political arena, particularly regarding the just concluded Rivers State Local Government elections, the Force wishes to debunk the prevailing falsehood of partisanship and reaffirms its neutrality and non-interference in political affairs within the State and the country in general, as the NPF only acted in line with an existing court judgment of the Federal High Court.”

“Firstly, the Nigeria Police Force was served with an order of injunction by the Federal High Court made on the 19th of July, 2024, barring the Police from participating in the LG election, deeming it unlawful.

“Secondly, the Rivers State High Court issued a counter order on the 4th of September, 2024, directing the Nigeria Police Force and other federal security agencies to provide security at the LG elections. It should be noted that the NPF was not joined as a party in this suit.

“And thirdly, The Federal High Court that gave the earlier injunction delivered judgement on 30th September, 2024, nullifying all previous activities so far carried in respect of the LG election and ordered the Police to stay away from any attempt to provide security during the said election.

“All these orders and counter orders were served on the Police. The IGP being a thoroughbred committed to operating within the legal framework forwarded the three court orders to the Force Legal section for advice. For the information of members of the public, the Force legal section boasts of sound and experienced lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Based on the legal advice received from the Force Legal Office, the IGP ordered the Rivers State Police Command to abide by the ruling of the Federal High Court, and also communicated the same to the Governor of Rivers State via a letter with reference number CH:3514/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.38/260 dated 2nd October, 2024, where the IGP advised the Governor to also abide by the Court ruling in the interest of peace and well-being of the people of Rivers State.

“The misinformation, triggered by the unwarranted outburst of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, based on no material fact was totally uncalled for, and unfair to the Law Enforcement Institutions in Nigeria, most especially his verbal attack on the person and office of the Inspector-General of Police.”

An IGP refusing to do his job is like a pastor refusing to minister at a wedding because the bride is his sidechick.

Childish

How did we get here?

An IG of police giving reasons why he couldn't perform his constitutionally stipulated job.

It took a press statement from Mr. President, who did order him to go back and do his job of maintaining law and order in Rivers State.

IGP Egbetokun has gone down in history as the most clueless, incompetent, crooked, and fraudulent IGP Nigeria has ever had. He is only good at engaging in electoral banditry.

You were unfair to RSIEC and the constitution
1. Was it a court order that asked you to deploy men to occupy the LG offices and restrain caretaker chairmen from accessing their offices?

2. Was it a court order that made you vacate the premises of the same LG offices you occupied illegally without informing anyone of the vacuum you were leaving behind?

3. More importantly, was it a court order that asked your men to go to RSIEC office late in the night to attempt to invade the premises and tamper with election materials?

This is laughable. You had three orders but chose the one to obey. And in the process of obeying the order you still disobeyed by sending your men to mount the RSIEC office in the middle of the night like a thief. You can only brainwash the gullibles.

A nonpartisan police would have challenged the court judgment on the basis of their constitutional right as a matter of fact. But from indications we all know the camp the police under Egbetokun belongs to.

Baldwretch:

A nonpartisan police force should have challenged the court judgment on the basis of their constitutional duties as a security agency.

The Police have a duty to maintain law and order, provide security especially during elections, etc, and no court of law has any rights to enforce a non sequitur on them.

I agree!

Exactly!

It is shameful that the NPF isn’t ashamed of his shameful and abysmal handling of this rivers issue.

So if someone suddenly rise tomorrow and joined the police in a suit to STOP arresting kidnappers, would it obey such an prefer from a drunken judge?

A minister who is an employee of the president is using the police to fight a governor of a state under the president’s watch?

Even as bad as Buhari’s government was, Osinbajo promptly fired the DSS director when they orchestrated the NASS fiasco

Only a weak and irresponsible leader allows their employee to abuse their power right in front of their nose.

It's today that The Police wants to start taking advice from the law court
I believe strategic positions should be made to people who have shown neutral basis on politics. It's obvious this man is doing someone's bidding.

If Fubara did not storm Rivers INEC office and openly called out the IGP before the media for his open partisanship, the plan was to use the police to hijack all election materials and claim that the police was enforcing one yeye court order.

Shame on you and everything you stand for .. supporter of criminal and drug kingpins .

Fubara is not a lilly livered asshole like ambode who allowed tinubu to play games with his political career. Fubara understands the power that he has and using it to beat down the criminals like wike and Tinubu trying to snatch his mandate from him and run away with it .

May it not be well with anybody supporting Wike to destroy rivers state same way Tinubu is destroying Nigeria

Fubara is the governor and he will lead his state for 8 fruitful years and nothing tinubu will do about that ..

Trying hard to change narrative that obvious to everybody.

Anyway i dnt blame u either, you are playing the script they handed over to you from the villa.

If Tinubu wants peace today in PH, he knows what to do and every storm will calm immediately, but can he? Definately no, since his 2 eyes are wide opened going to 2027, he needs "bulls in the chinese shops of major political parties in Nigeria.

The court that granted d orderfor police to stay away must be a useless court. How can court support breakdown of law n order. Also they did not say allow violence or dont secure rivers state. It is constitutional duty of police to protect n only national Assembly has power to ditect dem not to secure lives n property. Our judiciary is for highes bidder really

Mentaining laws and order is the constitutional right of the police force the court can't tell them to act otherwise.

This is one foolish explanation from the IG of police, trying to feign ignorance of his constitutional duty.

For goodness sake, is the IG of police oblivious of his constitutional duty? I think the answer is a resounding NO.

So, what really is it that propelled the IG of police to withdraw police officers from providing security in the just concluded LGA elections in Rivers State? A court order!!! kiss

A court order really? cheesy So, in Nigeria, the courts could actually stop the police force from providing security for the people and the society in general, as in?🙃

Honestly speaking, Tinubu was the one who masterminded the court judgement and police withdrawal from the election in connivance with Wike as main culprits.

In Tinubu's Satanic playbook, the IG of police and the court should be held responsible over that which transpired in Rivers State while the main culprits are never called up for questioning. All Nigerians aren't gullible.

The courts are aware they can't restrain the police from providing security and the police equally know its constitutional mandates hence everything that happened prior to the LGA elections in Rivers State was actually planned by Tinubu and Wike, the judge that gave that Satanic order and the IG of police in one definition

Finally, they failed woefully and on realising the damage they have caused already in the society, Tinubu solely decided to discontinue the failed mission embarrassingly. grin
