Pulpy kidney (Enterotoxaemia) is a clostridial disease that affects goats, grazing lush, fast-growing pastures, or moving on to a high carbohydrate diet. Any sudden changes in diet, including a change in environment (moving them from one farm to another), can also be a cause of this disease that causes sudden deaths.

A common mistake farmers make is that when buying new goats, they feed them exuberantly once they arrive without considering what their guts are used to and how the new feed will affect it.

That is why it is important to give your new goat proper roughage once he arrives and make him use to the new concentrate over the adaptation period (at least two weeks).

It is also important to know whether your new goat is vaccinated for clostridial disease before moving him and to make sure your herd is vaccinated before selling any animal off your farm.
