It's not possible for all teachers to be certified. Even in Uk and Canada, there's what is called uncertified or unqualified teachers and the pay difference is not that much. Every year, thousands of qualified teachers quit, so how so you want schools or government to cope with such shortages?

Keep deceiving yourself. Lagos state govt has not recruited new teachers in years! Schools are ill-equipped and you're talking about UK & Canada... Seems some of you like justifying nonsense.

The problem I have with your initial post is you saying that they are using unqualified teachers. Some qualified teachers are rubbish. They can't even deliver up to the of the so called unqualified

So if qualified teachers who studied education at NCE and B.Edu level are rubbish it's the WAEC certificate holders who work as non- teaching staff that would teach better? Try to sit down and reason before writing...

I am writing as someone who has 1st class knowledge of what is happening in Lagos state public schools.

Even Lagos state-owned public schools don't have enough teaching staff. They have not recruited teachers in years! Most public primary schools in Lagos are using non-teaching staff as teachers and they don't want to employ qualified ones cos they don't wanna pay salaries... .
.

I thought Lagos recruit teachers every year.

LOL for where? A lot of teachers are retiring, none are being employed to replace them. They use non-teaching staff who earn minimum wage to fill the shortage... Alausa economics... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Even with this, still expect 50,000 people to apply for the 2000 slots. Nigeria is just pathetic.

Better! There was a time I was the only teacher in school for two consecutive days. Govt schools got little joy and motivation. Rhetorically, Teaching? No. This shouldn't be a lifetime job for a trained engineer.
