Hi there
This is what I did for my husband and his arrival in the UK
My hubby arrived in the UK on Saturday 13th February
08/02/2016 Council Tax- I informed them as soon as I booked his flight (8th Feb) and advised what date he would be moving to the UK
15/02/2016- Went to the post office to collect BRP (Biometrics residents permit)
15/02/2016- Called Electricity, Southern Water and Portsmouth water and also called National Insurance line made application
16/02/2016- SSE (Electricity issued a bill) this was a PDF online bill I used as proof of address
17/02/2016- Opened NatWest Bank account and registered with GP
18/02/2016- I did my husband a CV and we went to the agencies and registered for work.
18/02/2016- Appointment with Lloyds Bank to open a Joint Savings account.
22/02/2016- FPR recruitment asked hubby to come in for a health and safety test PASSED smiley
23/02/2016- Hubby started his first job in the UK in a bakery, and is still there smiley (and did SIA security training, now awaiting the licence)
24/02/2016- Applied online for a provisional Licence
02/03/2016- D/L application arrived pre filled, signed returned with BRP card
15/03/2016- BRP returned from DVLA ( I knew a licence is issued as the ref is a DL number smiley
16/03/2016- Provisional Arrived smiley
So in a nutshell:
-Council tax
-Collect BRP
-National Insurance
-Electric company
-Gas company ( if you have)
-Water company (both fresh and waste)
Then once you have a letter from one of the utilities or council tax:
-Bank Account
-GP
-Dentist (my husband hasn't yet registered with one smiley )
useful information:
NI number:
https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number call 0345 600 0643 Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm (make sure you state he has been offered a job but requires a NI number) they will ask why you need one although obvious, however you can actually work for up to 12 weeks without an NI number smiley this is issued now by the jobcentre Plus not DWP
You need to get proof of address before you can open a bank account or register with a GP, so make sure those are the first things, check your billing dates for utilities as you could time it to get a bill the following day, as i called the day before my bill was due to be generated (luckily)
Driving Licence ( international licence can be used for 12 months from entering UK)
https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence
And make sure you file any letters for Joint or single names for your next stage FLR as you need to provide proof of cohabitation smiley
I hope this helps smiley

Pls, I would love to hear from those who used the priority service recently. Hubby wants to know if he can pay the priority fees online with his own card from UK. Will this be possible or do we have to pay it cash in naira at TLS? Thanks

pay on the tlscontact website before your biometrics. Priority not possible after application is submitted and biometrics

Good morning everyone on this forum. How was our weekend? Please, has anyone submitted his/her application with a Nigerian B.sc certificate without IELTS or UK Naric supporting document? Secondly, am I to send a wedding photo album since I dont have single copies? Thanks
Re: UK Spouse Visa/Appeal Process-part2 by dtbg28: 11:56am On Jul 07, 2016
I submitted my application with my Bsc Certificate alongside the NARIC certificate. As much as I wanted to submit only the Bsc certificate, our solicitor kinda insisted we get the NARIC cert which I was able to get in 2 working days for £150 thereabout by uploading my Bsc cert, transcript and a letter from my institution stating that my degree was taught in English....We had to use a solicitor cos ours is a peculiar one which I haven't seen on this thread cos we are exempted from the financial requirement but have to show adequate maintenance. It's just two weeks out of a possible 12 anyways....#smiles.

Hello, I need to understand this please.
If I should get you all right, once IHS is not refund immediately meaning the application is successful right?

No one is 100% sure about that until you get back your passport. But it's been so for recent applications...good luck!

When was your biometrics?

Have you received the 'decision made' email yet?

My fiancé is based in the Uk and is a citizen while am based in Nigeria. was asked by the registry to provide a sworn affidavit of spinster. now my question is this, am unemployed so what occupation do i include in the affidavit? Note that i was asked to indicate my occupation. In a case i state that am working as say an Admin Officer, am i to include docs to prove that when applying for the spouse visa? You must not lie!
If you are unemployed then be honest and say so.
If you lie and they find out you can be handed a long ban with your refusal.

Hiya, can someone please give me some advice. I am sponsoring my husband to return to the UK. He did his biometric on the 20th April, 2016. I calculated that wednesday 13th July would make it 12weeks. I've been checking the tlscontact website it hasn't been updated in weeks. I called the visa update line last week they said it's to be assessed by a ECO and that they will escalate the case. Still no news..

Any suggestions of how I can chase this up or should I just wait until after the 12 weeks have passed?

If your 12 week calculation is based on working days(excluding weekends). You should get a response within the week(give and take, allow a fortnight after expiration).

Hi Guys,
Is it possible to get refused a settlement visa because you have an overdraft or you're in your overdraft?

I thought the HO was just checking that you meet the salary requirements, not sieving through your bank statments.

Home office don't care about your account balance, the main thing is if you meet the financial requirements through your payslips and bank statement showing your salary coming into your account that's all.
