The House of Representatives has asked the federal government to reverse the pump price of petrol and cooking gas through targeted subsidy.

What is targeted subsidy? They will keep using semantics to cause confusion without a plan in how to achieve it.....by now their should be an action plan by the opposition on how to alleviate the hardship in the land and counter the ruling party on this with cogent policy formulations for states they govern at least but what do we have, lame, pedestrian postulations and grand standing without an iota of logic on how to make the situation better ......that's why the likes of obi doesn't appeal to me in anyway.

While in the government of high taxation?

Now they have brought another language to infuse the gullible…”targeted subsidy”.

The federal government owns four refineries. Repair, dem no repair. Sell dem no sell. They deliver crude to Dangote, make themselves sole distributors of Dangote refined products, ensure that the exchange rate increases daily and still use their powers to block independent marketers from importing petrol at cheaper rates.

Nigerians are in for a long ride with APC.

Where did you here imported petrol is cheaper than what we have now,who is feeding you all this bunkum or you just pull things out your arse?

If it were cheaper, by now everywhere would have been awash with it.

Targeted subsidies.APC with deceptive semantics.

Did you read the article at all.....it was your PDp and NNpp reps that came up with that......but they stated no idea on hiw they intend to achieve it.

The government should not be pressured into any hasty decision. Let them take their time and analyze this situation before acting.

The people that are shouting now will be the same ones crying when the government finally implements the targeted subsidies.

when it about giving relief or succour to the people, govt should think & analyze before saving its people But if its to announce & implement subsidy is gone, pump price increase or tax increment that one naa instant directives .. that why the economy is in so much mess

Did Tinubu take his time under 1yr he acquired a jet, a car and a luxurious yacht for a broke nation

And one idiot amadioha will strike dead is asking govt to take their time before rescuing Nigerians from hunger & hardship

Anyone still supporting these Tinubu govt is either mentally sick or evil

The proposed subsidy is for all Nigerians abi?
Why are some people making it look like the proposed subsidy is only for the poor?
The price of fuel affects all, the proposed subsidy would also affect all.
What's the problem?

The Problem is ' the Subsidies ' as there is nothing like ' targeted Subsidies and the govt is trying to be clever by half!
- a Govt that is quick to Remove Subsidies ' should equally be quick to make ALL the Refineries work but what do we have after one year 5 months - nothing has worked in this regards.
- Did Govt ever believed that our Oil is the Backbone of everything Nigeria?
That is why when Buhari removed it on the Budget with Pres.Tinubu,he Tinubu, play into the hands of Buhari- by thinking it was a just small affair but is a Big Issue and can you see how everything - Bread,Rice,Yam , PalmOil,- ALL Foodstuffs, Transportations, Pharmaceutical Products- all jumped with inflation and today Millions of Nigerians Cannot feed with their Families!
But Curiously,the same Govt- increases Revenue of the National Assembly;
Increased the Palliatives to the Governors;
Increased the Ministers Budgets, even gave them Rice Allocations!
But who is fighting for the Poor in our midst? Is it the Labour Leaders, with 70k negotiation?
Was the Subsidies removal on 70 %?
Was DISCOS - Power Sector Subsidies on 70k removal and why have the same govt find it difficult to fix the Refineries they claimed to repair?
Radara!
Tueh,tueh.

The discussion should have been about the high price of diesel instead of cooking gas. Cooking gas is affordable now.

Your head obviously in not correct...!!!

What cooking gas is affordable...?
What use to be 3000 naira or below before for 12Kg now 15,000 naira and counting and you are here saying affordable.

It's your type that collude with these criminals to deliberately kill people for nothing.

Targeted subsidy is a welcome idea.

Really? ... it sounds nice to the ear. They should explain how it should be implemented. Seeing that it is a welcome idea for you ... how do you think it will work?

Temporary price reduction measures ..... tax reduction ... and subsidies for low income households.

Temporary price reduction measures ... how will this work? Wasn't this tried before when the FG took loans and the CBN was secretly pouring money to subsidize petrol at the time the price went down to around N800?...then what happened after? Didn't the price shoot back up.... the Naira depreciated even more and we are left with a bigger debt to pay off? Is this kind temporary price reduction you are asking for again?

Subsidies for low income households .... what is a low income household? ... what income is considered low income for a house hold? Do you know? ... they should say. Is it in a national data base? Even if yes ... how will this be implemented?..have any idea?

Tax reduction... on what?...petrol? ...VAT? ... income tax? Whichever ...it will mean less income for the FG .... then what will you say when they tell civil servants to be patient ... there is a temporary delay in salary payments?...or services?

We need to chew on what these people are trying to feed us... if not we swallow garbage believing it is good. We need policies and measures to stop the depreciation of the Naira ..... nothing else can reduce inflation or stop it from skyrocketing. Let's not let them continue to fool us .... and we continue to fool ourselves and believe that somehow things will get better. Again... my advice ...convert whatever Naira you have to a stable foreign currency...it will continue to lose value the longer you hold on to it. There is nothing in sight to make the Naira gain value.... absolutely nothing.

As much as it hurts, the subsidies for petrol and electricity were the highest expense for the government.....

Now that these are no longer being paid. Can we see an increase in reserves and the value of the naira and a reduction in debts ( debt servicing being too high for the government)

The only thing to be done is to get beat value for money reduce costs of getting petrol for a crude producing country.

That is why it's advisable for nigerians to vote more of the opposition parties than the ruling party into the national assembly ..so the opposition party members can tackle the federal government on the federal government economic policies that is not benefitting nigerians which is making Nigerians to suffer ..and bring policies that will benefit nigerians and reduce the poverty, hunger, hardship and inflation

This is true and not at all rocket science. But the mentality of our people will not allow this to happen. If the FG supplies Dangote crude for free ... Dangote refines it to petrol .... add cost of production and intended profit margin .... and sells to marketers who add their mark up ....and the price at the pump is less than the price of water ... I can guarantee you there will be petrol shortage. Every Nigerian who can will find a way to smuggle every liter they can get out of the country.... that's our mentality I'm talking about. The price of petrol must remain high to discourage smuggling and prevent shortage.

The problem is, how would we pay for them

Even if we cut salaries of the assembly men and women, and stop looting and stealing, the money raised won't be enough

In 2023, 6 trillion was spent in the first six months on subsidy. Imagine if we continued along that line. By now subsidy would be eating all our budget

Anyway, karma is a bitch. If frog eyes and thin stick had listened in 2012, by now we would have been over the worst

I like your post.

Especially the bit about low income households. What exactly is a low income household. Based on the definition, Nigeria could be paying almost all our budget on targeted subsides.

Plus the times when we have had things like trader moni and npower, hmmm grin

And even if we get it right, chances are a lot of poor people will.miss out.

South Africa pays fees for students in university whose household income is 10000 rand monthly. There are many students who could benefit from the thing, but because they are like 10500 rand monthly, sorry. Same thing will happen with Nigeria.

Let's even not forget that people can lie. Oh and most low income families no get bank account or access to bank.
