So I have to choose between two apartments and require help as I am confused.

Apartment 1
Pros

Located in a GRA with well-planned streets and serene environment
Close to two gyms
On Band A

Cons
Old house but was recently renovated
A semi-dark kitchen caused by blockage at the window
You have to drive out to buy everything

Apartment 2
Pros
Newly built so everything is standard
On Band A
There are petty shops everywhere so I can just step out and buy what I want

Cons
Located in a regular street, nothing special
Rent is 200k more than apartment 1

Note: Light in both areas is constant. All opinions are welcome.

I recommend Apartment 2.

Reasoning:

The newly built structure means fewer maintenance issues and modern amenities, which can enhance your overall living experience.
Having shops nearby offers significant convenience for daily needs, saving you time and effort.
While it’s more expensive, the added comfort and accessibility might justify the extra cost, especially if you value ease in your daily life.
Ultimately, it aligns better with a hassle-free lifestyle.

When moving to a new apartment, there is nothing more heavenly than seeing everything around you fresh and new. Biko, go for the second apartment and avoid old structures. They are a turn off.

Personally, Apartment A.

You see that There are petty shops everywhere so I can just step out and buy what I want
Located in a regular street, nothing special
is just spelling trouble especially if you are the young & modernized type.

A huge red flag.

Neighbours will hate you for no reason just because you are fresher. Problems you know nothing about will be brought to you from nowhere. That Band A light you think you have now will become a burden once someone in the area discovers he can make a living by spoiling it & going round to collect contribution thrice a year. Security issues, petty squabbles, crime, noise and your overall mental deterioration are not worth 200k.

Finally, the quality of your network for business will be low.

There is a reason the rich cordon themselves from these things. Learn from them.

That upscale neighbourhood will benefit you in the long run. That the structure is older means nothing if the landlord is willing to fix things and if it's GRA, there's a 75% chance it was well built. New houses do have major issues too. Just 3 people you'll meet there can set you up for life.

But if you are the ghetto type that can't live without gossip and drama, take option B, save your 200k and remain stagnant.

Go for the second option. That option A is gonna be boring.

I live in one of the best estates in lagos and it's totally worth it.
So I'll pick apartment 1

Better chose to live among the rich and not the "other side".. The environment you chose to live influences your thought-process and the kind of people you relate with.

Apartment 1 is On Band A and that solves alot of problems in Nigeria depending on which you are facing cheesy

Option A.

It's quiet.
Nothing bad with an old house since you said it's renovated, they are mostly more spacious.

And it's even cheaper.

Old structures are reliable like Union Bank, strong like Bagco SuperSack.

On a serious note, I don't like drama around me. That first apartment will save you a lot of drama, nosiness, noise and pettiness from neighbours. Some of them are monitoring spirits.
You are big, stock up your house with stuff that you need; when you do that, you won't need to be driving out often to get stuff. You can do it weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on which is convenient. If you live in a decent neighborhood, you meet people of like minds, you can network.

Me, I don't know all my neighbours, I know just a few and it's fine, fantastic even! We don't even get to see. I don't get to add headache from neighbours to work stress. Apartment A, please.

Old House with dark kitchen equals plenty cockroaches. Just putting that out there.

I love exclusive neighbourhoods but I don't like old houses, but it depends on how old we're talking.

Again, when you say an ok neighbourhood, it depends. If it's a middle class neighbourhood, I would go for B, but if we're talking, lower class neighbourhood, I'd rather stick with A.

Lower class neighbourhood are very frustrating. You'd stick out like a sore thumb, everyone will know your business. It's usually a mess.
