Yes, to an extent. But what do they owe us for destroying our traditional institutions and heritage?

Na ingratitude go kii many of you Africans. Even in personal relationships, you are some of the most ungrateful wretches that the world has to offer.

If you are so angry with the British that you are sure you gained absolutely nothing from them, the right way to start expressing your anger is to throw away everything you got through them - like this English you are speaking and this technology you are using.

This English and this tech are your only means of connecting with the world. It's now 60 years since the British left us, yet we are still much worse than they left us. Yet, we think we are wiser for hating on the British, just as we think we are wiser for hating on one another.

If we said let's split now people would complain. Seem people that are complaining that the British colonised us are happy about the tribal conjoining construct they left behind and want to maintain it.
I'm confused about Africans and blacks really.
I sometimes question our sense and reasoning.

You don't know how negatively the colonial era affected the race. Take for example, Nigeria. The British joining Nigeria together remains one of the world's most evil things. That action alone has destroyed the country. The same fate is happening to many back nations. And if U know how the global system works, U will hate the white man. They messed U up. U won't know.

Gibberish.

Go and read about Singarpore and Malaysia.
Even if you create each family in Africa a nation, they would still be 4th world countries as long as they are black.

There is a vital aspect you are missing out on.

We didn't have to be colonized to experience exposure to some modern amenities. The long passage of time and greater level of international trade would have ensured that to a large extent.

There are some territories that were not colonized and they currently have many of these facilities you speak of. How? Through trade and globalization. And they don't have to speak English, Portuguese or Spanish.

If Nigeria were not colonized, we would have had more control of our resources though most likely have dictatorships. And we definitely wouldn't be living in huts right now.

That's untrue.

If with direct administration and influence it has been difficult for Africans to advance and assimilate, do you think it would have been possible or faster through only trade?

Do you think this our politicians would allow the common man access to education and wealth knowing that it is easier to manipulate us like they do now, when we are ingnorant and poor?

Still not getting it. Yes we would have been late to the party without colonization, but by now we would still have had some exposure.

There are currently territories that were NOT colonized but still have some level of development . Trade made this happen. There can be interactions without colonization.

So do not assume by looking at only one side of the issue.

Name those places

I want to ask you two simple questions that anyone can answer:
If at any point the North decided they no longer wanted to be part of Nigeria could Britain have stopped them??
Another:
Was it Britain that waged a war to force the East to stay in Nigeria??

Yes the British would have stopped them and if you must know it was north that first hoisted a secessionist flag in Nigeria following the July 66 coup. It was the British that stopped them reminding them that they now have control of the army after killing Ironsi and other Igbo officers, it was at point the choice was between Gowon and Muritala. Gowon was now selected

Your guys aren't always tune with reality.

Basically all the stuff you are enjoying are as a result of colonization.

The suit you wear and your mannerisms, even the churches you attend are as a result of colonization.

If they tell you to go do Traditional religion, you will be here shouting in the name of Jesus your colonial masters brought to you.

The only reason you typed all these is because you want to argue

But deep down in your heart, you know that without your colonial masters, you won't be able to write in English.

Can you even write in your local language or even preach fluently in your local language?

Do you worship, the benin Gods or the white man God?

Do you attend traditional God's festival or you do the Christian festival?

I am sure you do none of your local traditions but respect the Christian traditions and here you are trying to say i am a dumb African

Call me dumb because that I can see the reality and not argue blindly like the way you are doing.

Call me dumb for accepting the reality, that we were colonized, defeated and a foreign God and way of life was imposed on us. I accept the badge of dumbness gladly

I agree with you that some people in the south are just incredibly stupid when they keep assuming they are inherently smarter than northerners or that northerners are more backward than southerners.

The north wasn't backward in precolonial days. 3 kingdoms stand out in Nigeria:

1. Benin
2. Sokoto/Kano
3. Bornu

All other kingdoms were either inconsequential or dependencies of the 3 kingdoms above.

I would like yorubas to stop their cultural appropriation of Benin culture. They claimed the title of Benin emperor, they claimed Benin emperor himself, they've claimed Benin's name, they've claimed Benin artefacts, they even claimed Benin people ....
Now they are claiming Benin swords "Ada and Eben", the Oni of ife is copying the crown of the Oba of Benin ....
Can the yoruba stop stealing my people's cultural heritage ?
I have nothing against copiers when they acknowledge the original, but yoruba Always pretend they are the original and that they passed the tradition over to Benin ...

The bast*rd said we should be grateful for bringing Christianity to us?

Oh, my "amagadam"!

So, by implication, Christianity brought through forced slavery for wish able bodied black men and women were "cargoed" through the Atlantic Ocean is a foundation that Christ - The Prince of Peace - should be proud of?

Did Christ tell the racist that He forced people to come to Him while enslaving and stealing their resources?

What manner of Christianity is that?

I no blame the blabbing idiot!

The two main religions (Christianity and Islam) are products of coercion which have continued to deprive the world of peace till date.

Islam came through conquests just like Christianity through the slave-trading colonial masters.

Erase religion, and peace would return naturally to the world.

Reparation is a must!

Britain, France, Italy, Portugal, etc must acknowledge this fact if they truly believe in Christ.

Re: Former British Colonies Owe ‘Debt Of Gratitude’, Says Robert Jenrick by Ghostagain: 11:00am On Oct 31
So speaking the truth is considered as an act of hatred now ? I guess that in your world view every black person should thank any other black person who does him wrong, because that is your idea of solidarity ?

For your info, except the jebu who didn't consider themselves yoruba in precolonial days, the rest were complicit with the colonizers and never fought against the colonizers. Even up to today, the yorubas vividly thank the British for colonization, because while we were killed and our cities were burnt down by the colonizers the yoruba were elevated by the same colonizers.

Pan Africanism is not about blinding yourself and thinking we all have the same world view , it's about knowledge first, knowing the truth and being wise. Look at the Oni of ife, he was a mere priest before colonization, but thanks to colonization and his usefulness to the colonizers, he was artificially made a king by the colonizers and now he even calls himself "emperor". Some yorubas were actual slave returnees from places like Brazil, they were deported to our region and as soon as they landed they already had a written language (that of the Europeans) and they considered the Europeans their true friends and they saw us as a threat, just like their brothers in Liberia who were slave returnees saw the whites and the locals...

Historical research is important if you want to actually be s true Pan-Africanist.

All true African indigenous rulers in what we call Nigeria today were severely dealt with by the British, the sultan of Sokoto was killed, the Oba of Benin was exiled and many of his chiefs were killed and even humiliated after death, the emir of Kano was also severely dealt with, the emperor of Bornu was also dealt with, meanwhile the yoruba monarchs and those yoruba whom the British would elevate to kingship were collaborating with the British and getting the favours of the British.
The kingdom of Benin was totally destroyed and non Edo people were brought into parts of Benin kingdom by the British and those non Edo people were encouraged to declare those lsnds as their own land and not Benin land, also monarchs who previously paid tribute to the Oba of Benin were made to declare independence from Benin...

This is why Nigeria will never improve, this kind of mentality is the reason why Nigerians like me in the diaspora look down on Nigerians back home

so stupid yet so arrogant, a strange mix of superiority and inferiority complex

how does a person say this kind of thing about not only themselves, but their entire race or ethnicity?

first of all, Colonisation in Africa was not the same as colonisation in Asia, due to the simple reason that we had resources, the Asian did not, at least not to our level

so our colonisation was extraction based, theirs was for trade,

Shut up your mouth...

Foolishness and undisguised ignorance finish you there

Why are you abroad and not living in Nigeria if you believe that you can make a difference... ?

Your colonial masters have left you but you are still running to their territory because your Ancestors could not handle independence.

You can claim to be independent but you and your nation are still dependent on your colonial masters and their western partners to live the best life that you and your children want.

You look down on your fellow Nigerians back home because you are proud and pompous...

You feel superior to your fellow Nigerians back home because you have crossed over to the territory of your colonial masters...

You are now the "House Slave" that looks down on the other slaves in the cotton field

If the colonial masters are so bad, why are you living in their territory and not in your country that have resources....

You know in your heart that if these same colonial masters had stayed behind in Nigeria, things would be much better than what it is today...

You can argue all you want but your colonial masters are not the reason your politicians are stealing billions of dollars yearly...

The resources they steal yearly is now more than whatever your colonial masters took away from you...

This mentality of blaming the white colonial masters instead of taking responsibility is one of the reason for the Japa syndrome that carried you away to the territory of your colonial masters...

This mentality is also responsible for internet fraud because these Yahoo Boys believe the colonial masters exploited their land and now it is time to revenge their children by scamming them.

Unless the black man takes responsibility and strive to make impact in Africa, they would continue to see the colonial masters as their problem..

A man's enemy are members of his own household...

Nigeria's problem is from within and not external.

It is clear that many Nigerians are intellectually bereft, and lacking in any form of self-esteem.

Clearly, they do not read, do not know their history, and consider material things such as mobile phones, high rise buildings and mirrors as worth their enslavement.

The way their forefathers were enslaved out of ignorance.

Unfortunately, this generation does not have the excuse of no previous experience.

The biggest problem of most Nigerians is their lack of education. Even graduates in Nigeria are not up to educational standards elsewhere in the world. A 30 year old Nigerian has the mental acumen of a 9 year old European kid. All this goes down to education. Nigerians confuse fairytales like that of Santa with actual history. Nigerians believe in religious texts literally and in other kinds of magic.

They need education, and they hate education, rough combo. Also they are extremely arrogant.

I fully agree.

Had these people not risked the seas to come here, either malaria or Arab slave raiders would have finished sub saharan Africa.

We vilify the white man but every single thing that prolongs and make life comfortable was invented by them.

Since they left in 1960, we've been retrogressing, instead of progress, in geometric progression.

Malaria that had been in existence for centuries before the arrival of the white man would have wiped out the black race?

Damn Africa is defeated and the white extremists don't even have to try.
