🥲 YES, That's why I used that word Hoodwink. smiley The Client who sent the Staff wanted a Receipt bearing 35K. undecided From what I heard, They Connived and the Staff Told the Secretary that the Client (Her Family friend) have sent the Money ("35K) but there was Bank Network issues. sad
🥲 But later she now claimed the Network FAILED totally, That the Secretary should just hold N20,000, thinking that that the Secretary has written Receipt. sad
So, the staff and client committed fraud? If this is the case, the staff broke the law and ought to be fired ane charged for the crime so he/she pays for the crime. undecided

A company reserves the right to change it's prices, old stock or no old stock, do sales to reduce price or not.

It is from old stock it will pay new Electricity tariff, new staff minimum wage, new Petrol price increases, new exchange rate for materials , new lending interest rates from banks, and so on.

The staff does not have any right to collect 20k and have an official receipt of 35k written out. That is fraud.

If something goes wrong with the jeans and the customer wants refunds, the customer will come and claim 35k refunds from the company using that receipt this making the company lose 15k

Kai, you are smart.đź‘Ť

I did NOT even look at it from this Angle.

No wonder she wanted 35K Receipt. sad

because she knew that a 20K bearing receipt would be Illegal and can be used against her in a Court case. smiley

The company is being dishonest by selling old stock with outrageous profit margin. The staff is aware that they are profiteering and it's leadership tone of dishonest company leadership begets dishonest staff.
I have insisted on paying old price on an old stock and the seller eventually agreed with me that he can't impose new prices on old stock because Naira has been devalued. That company can not last eventually if it keeps acting dishonestly. Disciplinary measure that exonerates the dishonest management is not the solution.
The company leaders should be honest.

Dishonest Ke?

An Clothing Organization that sells Baggy Jeans, (One for N20000), Increased price to N35000, due to the Harsh Economic situation of the Tinibu Govt.

Most Clients complained but later Adjusted when the company explained things with them.

Now a Dubious Client still wanted to buy 1 Jean @the N20000 Old Price and gave the amount to a Staff
(Who is her Family friend) to pay and Hoodwink the secretary to write Receipt for her.

The Staff agreed in this Plan and Tried to carry it out but FAILED.

So Question is, What is the appropriate Punishment for the Staff?
*SACK?
*SUSPENSION?
*Or QUERY?

Have you ever heard don't jeopardize your work for anyone be it family or friend ?

Moreso, how can you write a receipt for an actual amount when what was collected was not up to the original amount?
That's defrauding the company and how do you expect the company to still retsin you or how will the staff feel if the owner funds out a d pretends not to know and when salary is been paid the balance is deducted from her salary assuming her salary is even more than the purported balance?

The staff is very foolish. You're trying to defraud a company that pays your salary for someone who once things go south with you, wouldn't care or lift a finger to assist you.

How foolish can some people be.

The company should terminate the appointment of that staff.

Fire the staff immediately, such staff didn’t see the company as their own and always placing the company’s interest last, it’s an attempt to introduce fraudulent schemes into the company, pay that staff half of his or her salary at the month end and beg her to sign for full salary with same energy, that would have become the norms if that staff has succeeded

Fired that staff now, one bad egg in the crate bring distrust and tarnish the rest

Though i'm usually very strict, but in this case, i won't support outright sacking
Since it looks like this is his first act of misconduct, they can just give him a query and some other appropriate punishment, and not sack him

If the company sells the old stocks at the old rate, how will it buy the new stock at the new rate from the producer/distributor/wholesaler?

That employee should be sacked because they knew what they were doing is wrong.

Don't try to sugar coat it.

If they had not being caught, they will keep on doing it till they wreck the business.

[quote author=thesicilian post=132963479]I don't think I understand the nature of the offense per se. Was the staff trying to get a receipt of 35k while paying 20k for his client/relative? If so she deserves to serve some form of suspension (if her response to the query is satisfactory).

If she was trying to use staff privileges to get the company to sell the item for 20k (assuming the company has a special discount package for the staff), then all the punishment she needs is to answer a query and then probable have her staff privileges taken away.

I don't think it's an offense that deserves a sack either way. Harsh punishments like that can reduce other staff morale and prevent whistleblowing in the long run, as no one will want to be responsible for another person's sack in this harsh economy

It's an attempt to defraud the clothing company. Most companies that value integrity do not tolerate fraud in any form, especially when it is against the interest of the company. Termination of employment is the appropriate course of action based on the story narrated here.

Never you ever terminate an employee contract of employment for an alleged offense committed unless that employee is given an opportunity to defend himself through query and his responses to the query else you fall prey to the labour laws of the land.

If he uses and sought to uphold the law of natural justice that he was never given an opportunity to defend himself for an alleged offense he himself didn't admit to the courts will quash that termination and award appropriate damages as well as full salaries paid during the pendency of the litigation.

Always go the route of query and responses before acting.

First of all, issue query for fair hearing, secondly suspended as labour law demands, and finally, sack. Within this period, the staff will apply for resignation which must be honoured to save his or her future. The staff attempted fraud which is subject to punishment.

If governance in Nigeria has been on this tripod, Nigeria my country would have been good.

Steal, investigated, prosecuted, death/jailed and loots retrieved to implement a project, project named after your stealing action with full names of perpetuators in a gigantic billboard installed where the project sits.

Query comes before a sack. The staff most likely must have been queried before maybe. If not, this is an outright injustice and an unfair treatment. Too bad indeed of the so called company! . InFact it make no sense. No be money matter? Simple salary deduction nah. That company is an outright useless place to work. Staff obviously don’t last there. . . What she/he did wasn’t wrong at all….where is the “staff privileges”? No be say the person thief am outright! Ha’aba na… there is God oh!
