…Tokunbo Wahab lauds PPP approach, thanks stakeholders

In a landmark development for Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, the first phase of a transformative 10,800-bed hostel project is now ready for commissioning. This ambitious initiative, facilitated by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represents a significant stride in improving student welfare and addressing accommodation challenges at the institution.

The announcement was made by Tokunbo Wahab, the former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education who is now the state environmental czar via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Wahab described the project as one of the most ambitious undertakings during his tenure, highlighting its execution through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement. The collaboration involves seven reputable investors.

“Through the grace of God, the unwavering support of the Lagos State Office of Public-Private Partnerships, the relentless efforts of LASU management led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and the cooperation of key stakeholders, the first phase of this landmark project has now been completed,” Wahab said.

A Game-Changer for Student Accommodation
The 10,800-bed hostel is poised to be a game-changer for students at LASU, alleviating long-standing accommodation challenges. The project exemplifies the Lagos State Government's commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships to address critical infrastructure needs in the education sector.

Wahab expressed pride in the project's progress and its readiness for commissioning by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stating: "Proud of the work done here and to have been a part of this special one."

As LASU prepares to commission this milestone development, students, staff, and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the improved living conditions and enhanced academic experience the new hostel will bring.

The completion of this phase sets the stage for further advancements in the institution’s infrastructure and positions LASU as a leading center of academic excellence in Nigeria.

cheesy

They do this in every school of the federation, including Federal Universities too

So, building a very comfortable and maybe modern hostel for Uni students is done with ulterior motives and must have been funded by some looters somewhere?

Damn...May i never come across people like you in my journey of life

This is commendable coming from the state government. The FG should do this for its own universities.

Thats the best way sustainable projects are built, Government should not be sole-owner of anything, in most developed countries Government is not the sole-owner of anything, everything is partnership.
There is check and balances from every partner, this makes the project to grow and generate intrest.
God bless Lagos State.

Doesn't look World Class Standard to me ...Lagos State should be at the forefront of Innovation and Development ... 8 tanks per building instead of a centralize mega water storage ...

Good development. The state of hostels in Nigeria is not fit for humans. It is such an eyesore due to lack of refurbisment for years nd somewhere an amt is allocatd for this but someone has damned his soul for hell consuming this funds

Pathetic set of people all they think about is looting. Hypocrites like you will do the worst if given power. It is a pity that you don't even know the meaning of PPP, all you do is to buy cheap data and spew gibberish.

There is nothing wrong with that , the most important thing is how they maintain it. There are places around the world like that but they are properly maintained. That is suppose to be your main concern.
