SonofElElyonRet:How did you know there was no proof to back it? This country is turning to Banana republic. If anyone defamed you, you need not go to police station, all you need doing is get a sound lawyer sue the fellow for defamation of character and wait let the person prove himself in the court and if he cannot prove himself, then, the law will take its course. Either he suffer jail term or he pay a sum to the petitioner or the judge may request such book should be withdrew from circulation or the respondent should publish an apology in daily (ies). They could not even try him where the cause of action took place, they have to take him to Ekiti where the petitioner is residing. Very ridiculous, a civil case, the magistrate asked the respondent to be thrown to prison. This singular act has already justified what he said about Afe Babalola, that he procure judgements. This is a pure bailable offence and doesn't require anyone going to prison for now, until the case is exhausted and the defendant found guilty. All this kind lower the judiciary rating among the comity of nations judiciary. It paints the nation as a cash carrying nation to influence cases. |

xtivin:"Sentence" or asked to be kept in prison till 10th December. You can only sentenced a suspect when arguments had been heard. Well, that was wrong because it is a pure civil case and civil case like this is bailable. Not allowing him bail had already justified what he said about Afe Babalola that he procured judgements. |

"he alleged that Aare Afe Babalola corrupted the Judiciary and procured judgements in the supreme court there by exposing him to hatred, contempt, ridicule and damage his hard earn career." But what he said, is it not the Truth? Why do most Nigerians get angry when told the Truth about themselves? Shameful. 1 Like |

What irony. The allegations have just been proven with his illegal arrest and strange remand for an offense that doesn't exist in Nigeria's laws. In a regular criminal case the exact laws that are offended would be clearly indicated in the charges. The judiciary is really one of the reasons investors shy away because the courts are either for sale or amenable to political power 1 Like |

Xox1945: We have been shouting Nigeria is a criminal enterprise and you think you can get away with defaming one of the most senior lawyers in the country? Look, there is the law (that we all know is never followed) and there is personal responsibility and engaging your brain. We are not in London! Understand your environment! The likes of Fela went to jail and heaven did not fall. A system Fela fought all his life and did not change is not a system a 2 bit unwashed lawyer wannabe activist is going to dent. Even the man that was lawyer to Fela has borrowed himself brain and does his “activism” with sense. Is it that he thinks he knows more about the corruption in the system than Falana? You see Falana libel or defame anybody? You see them arrest Falana? 1 Like |

badoh:Some of you have even passed judgement on Dele Farotimi when he has not been given chance to defend what he wrote in his book. You guys just want to turn this country to Banana republic. All this might flexing is too bad for our country. He should have just told him to mop the book from circulation or risk been sued and afterwards sue him for defamation of character, instead of using police to embarrass him in a constitutional country. |

casualobserver:If I could get you right, are you saying the country is a lawless country and things are not done the way it ought to be done, if what I read is what truly you're insinuating? That someone is a senior lawyer does it confined on him constitutional superiority? Please explain to us because I thought we are all equal before the law. Nobody can beat their chest for now that the allegation he preferred against Afe Babalola is correct or wrong, until it is proven beyond doubt in the law court. If someone defamed you, take him to court for a redress rather than using police to embarrass him. That's awkward. |

IfnobeGod20: There is criminal libel in our laws.. check again. Until it is expunged, Afe has the right to lodge a criminal complaint. He built a reputation over decades and someone wants to ruin it just like that? Regarding evidence, the accused doesn't have any to prove afe procured court judgement through corruption. If he has evidence that afe bribed judges he should present it. None presented till date !!! 1 Like |
