The power provider marketing department will approve the installations for only those on 33kva power lines and sidelines this on 11kva transmission lines knowing well that those on 11kva transmission lines usually experience poor power supply. If installed on 11kva line then a consumer on that line can pay between 2-3k in a month as no billing without power supply so estimated billing will always be preferred there hence , don't expect much meter installation within 11kva consumer lines . You can now see reason the =N=700 billion will even be more than enough.

Just another avenue to loot money,free meter kor,I paid over 134000 naira some days ago just for separation of meter so who them de give free meter too?first batch of over 100b naira that was released for the same according to them sometime ago what was it used for?where the meters?even after I paid so much they still said I have to wait for at least two weeks for the meter o..funny bulaba administration.

The same government should make publicity that no individual buys prepaid meter from the any distribution company again. The distribution company should give out the meter for free and free installation.

The installation and the meter should be removed from the VAT charges.

Why can't this pre meters be sold in the open public market like 3,000;naira at a subsidized price...with this many nigerians will be able to have access to it and buy it and acquire it easily..than this free distribution of the pre meters that will not get to many nigerians but diverted by the corrupt government officials and politicians and sold at a higher price and the 700 billion naira for this initiative some of the money will be misappropriated and diverted and embezzled by this corrupt government officials and politicians in charge of running this pre meters free distribution initiative

I am yet to understand all this things as ways....
It was not quite long that we were told that Discos have been given the mandate through their agents to upgrade and change all old prepaid meters....

If that is the case why will the FG issuing out free prepaid meters when they should just allow the Discos and metering companies to go on and install free prepaid meters and do their deductions through the billing patterns rather than these...
All these are just strange and unbelievable unnecessary avenues created to siphon the nations funds through proxies, cronies and family members.
Sometimes these people should use their heads in thinking rather than all these so called subsidies that will not get to their destination.

No matter how well-intentioned the FG's plan is, NEPA staff will short-circuit it and charge money codedly. Those guys are worse than the Nigerian Police. Nigeria is super corrupt. Some NEPA staff are supposed to be tied to stake and sent to hell. Very wicked beings.

I experienced hell in the hands of EKO Distribution, real hell because of this meter issue.

They deliberately inputed a code in my actaris meter and it displayed "on call" mode.


I called them to rectify the issue and the next thing they did is slamming me with a bill and claiming loss of revenue.

I presented evidences of my recharges and the date the meter stopped supplying. I called them same day to report and I had no power in my flat since that day.

E no go better for EKO Power and the bowlegged Kamal in Idi Araba undertaking office.

I no blame them. I blame the successive useless governments that we jave had that cannot set up an effective Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to check compliance.

If government is REALLY SERIOUS, let them open portal for people to apply for the free meters. Portal should capture biodata and NIN with delivery and installation dates assigned to each end user.

No, I don't think that's how it works.

They use a ratio system. When an area is captured, they meter the entire area. Check your surroundings, and you'll notice there are places where meters are installed on poles. These meters cover a wide area. Any outstanding amount owed is automatically added to the bill, and it gets deducted gradually as residents recharge.

So, I don't think you can apply. If they allowed people to apply, many might do so using fake identities. Instead, it's an automatic process for areas that are next on their list.

The Federal Government is borrowing money N700bn from the World Bank to buy and distribute free electricity meters to Nigerians. I cannot understand the logic behind this variant of looting economics adopted by the government. Will the government borrow money to pay their bills? As the poor people in Nigeria outnumber the meters, what will be the yardstick for the distribution of the meters?

What the people need is empowerment by creating an enabling environment and NOT free rice, oil, and meters from the government. It is immoral to steal the people's commonwealth and use the filthy lucre to impoverish them through the so-called free service delivery. The funds will ultimately end in private pockets through misappropriation, disappropriation, corrupt patronage, and inflated contract execution.

It could have been good for the funds to be used in establishing farm centres across the country to provide subsidised agricultural tractor and input services to the peasant farmers. It seems the government is bereft of ideas to move the country forward or has the idea but driven by corruption to gather the money that they don’t need to live well.
