Point of correction OP. The Assad family ruled Syria under martial law for more than 4 decades. Bashar Al Assad’s rule alone, lasted for 24 years.

It is also good for the West, as they are now confident there is no challenger to Israel. Something tells me Qatar sold off Hamas and Hezbollah for future protection and goodies.
