Folake Ani-Mumuney was asked to resign as First Bank’s global head of marketing and corporate communications by Femi Otedola, the chairman of the holding company, insiders have told TheCable.

A top employee of the bank informed TheCable that Otedola was “seriously irked” when he learned that a whopping sum was spent on a send-off party for Adesola Adeduntan, the former MD of the bank who was reportedly forced to resign over alleged negligence in a N60 billion electronic fraud.

It is still unclear if Ani-Mumuney’s resignation is directly linked to the party.

However, insiders said Otedola believed it was “insensitive and wasteful” to throw such a lavish party when the clear direction and mandate of the bank is to recapitalise and reposition the institution from excesses of the past management.

The source also stated that Otedola, who has in recent times developed a reputation for being a “no-nonsense activist investor”, is planning to take more “drastic” decisions and actions to keep First Bank on the track of impeccable banking “devoid of extravagance and waste of shareholders’ resources”, TheCable was told.

The development has sent panic across the top echelon of Nigeria’s oldest bank.

The source further said: “We are seeing efforts to plug leakages that have set the institution back over the years.”

The send-off party was held at the Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, on November 2, in honour of Adeduntan, who was GMD and CEO for nine years until April 2024.

Despite Otedola’s absence, the party had in attendance many dignitaries and top management of the bank.

Hmmm. 60bn is huge oo. Sadly, most Nigerians are mere nominal Muslims and Christians. They don't fear God whom they claim they're serving at all and that's why Nigeria is this backward. A pastor will be deceiving followers and be turning the bible upside down to suit his selfish ends. An imam will be caught with juju and human parts. Is it God who sent them?

See this man, a so-called devoted muslim with such a tick, dark spot visibly seen on his forehead. Who would ever think such a man would have his hands enmeshed in such a huge fraud? God is so patient. I know He'll deal with everyone according to their deeds.

Funny enough this bank won't give you your own money when needed, telling you you have limits to your own money.

Mr. Otedola!

Bank Business no be Social influencer business. Na him be first to comment on everything:
Amount spent on hiring private jets,
FX policies
Downstream vs Dangote
Now employees send forth for their 9 years MD.

Forgetting the Bank has interests on both divides and to protect his interest as a core investor he suppose dey learn SHOOSH!

Too flippant for the position

Nice one Otedola.

This is boss move (Roman Abramovic Style). The bank has recapitalization to deal with and to meet up with CBN deadline, but you wasting fund for a send-off party on a staff who was forced to resign over 60 billion electronic fraud. You too will eventually be forced to resign.

That's incompetency, mismanagement and misplaced priority.

I'm one of them. I also have shares at Oando of which First Registrars, a subsidiary of FBN is a custodian. Oando hasn't paid dividends in a decade. That 60bn stolen by this useless man is huge.

But why should they do a lavish send off party for someone negligent in a N60 billion naira fraud.

The daring message: Do another lavish send off party for Folake Ani-Mumuney and be forced to resign cool

A man who was forced to resign over alleged negligence in a N60 billion electronic fraud.
You are throwing such a lavish party for him.
Are you celebrating him for the fraud, or for those innocent customers that may have been affected directly or indirectly?
If at all there was to be a send forth party for him, with the situation surrounding how he left First bank, such party should have been a low key party.
What an insensitive Lady.
This goes a long way to show that it is not only the politicians that have issues with money, position's and corruption.
Even the career person's are involve.
May God sav this country.

The obsession with lavish party by Nigerians need to studied. Those that don't have money will borrow just to impress.

Former Governor of Ondo State was in sickbed but his wife was preparing a lavish birthday party for herself.
The wife of the Pastor of the Church Late Herbert Wigwe attend in Lagos organized lavish party while they were mourning Wigwe's death.

Some people borrow money from loan app just to throw lavish birthday party for their new born Child.
