I saw you! The peak of my dream you cling, You Monster That Dug the Arab Spring, Flapping your wild And wild Wings, Over The land Where two great rivers Confluenced behind The Northern plateau. Softly And softly, You perched forth With a butterfly equanimity. Later And later, You swooped with Eagle strength; Distributing evenly, Powerfully, Like ocean flood: Nooks and Cranny, streets and Marts, Like unruly desert Whirlwind. Brutal Gunpoint, Tribal Sentiments, Could not hold sway Nor hold the day. Give us job! Give us job! I heard you Sang. Slash your bogus earnings! Slash your bogus earnings! I heard you sang. Where Blacks clustered most, Their political Honoraries sauntered for toast- With their rich fossils; viscous Enough, but few so enriched Most so impoverished- Their bureaucratic cause. Public treasury losing sanctity, Political Honoraries gaining immunity Sun set, sun rise The magnificent mace most besieged. |
