Ask the people who donā€™t speak poorly of their country, and youā€™ll find a sense of patriotism instilled in them by the trust they have in their government. This trust stems from the government fulfilling its civic duties to its citizens. Now, let me ask you: what civic duty has your government fulfilled for you as a citizen?

You provide your own water, electricity, and security. You have to send your children to private schools because public education is inadequate. There is no functional healthcare system. As a Nigerian, you are poorer today than you were 10 years ago. So, what exactly has your government done for you to earn your loyalty or patriotism?

This is the difference between why citizens of countries like China or Lebanon donā€™t criticize their governmentsā€”they benefit from at least one or all of these basic services. So, tell me, why should I stay silent and not speak out? Evil thrives when good people do nothing.

Was it not because Kemi spoke up that the police issued a memo instructing officers not to arrest people unnecessarily during this period? If you think staying silent is doing your country justice, youā€™re mistaken. In fact, silence in the face of injustice makes you an enemy of your nationā€™s development.

Nigeria is bigger than a government that will eventually pass away. It is the mountains, hills and fauna, rich traditions and cultures, the indomitable spirit of 9ja. It is its music and arts. It's medal winners like our women weight lifters who practice in dingy underpowered gyms. It is Lookman who refused to be consigned to failure.

It is you. Yes even those who stirred by unrest, rise to make a fortune using their despair as energy. This is who we are. We are part of 9ja's creative process.

So calling all this names is self flagellation and ignorance what makes a country. Before you say " na dat one we go chop" begin with Ashake, Funke Akindele, and ask yourself if it is not possible to bring beauty out of apparent chaos. If it possible, love the opportunity; it's light AND shadows.

Enjoy your tour, dude.

Sure, CH is very expensive but pay is good too.

Apart from skiing I can't remember anything exciting about Switzerland. Social life is quite dull. Their version of Deutsch is even less appealing than Austrian version. I thought Bavarian was terrible compared to Hochdeutsch but CH one takes the biscuit.

Your colourful description of Nigeria is understandable but how have we the 35 to 60 years bracket done better as citizens than our father's generation?

It's easy to point fingers but it takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a lot of people to make a country colourful as you described.

May God bless you sir for this.
It's not actually his fault or that of Kemi experience they say is the best teacher. No one can erase that in their mind.We should be mindful of all we put on social media,AI is picking it one after the other. We, in Nigeria feel bitter too, there's no how you will leave the shore of the country and not ask yourself why is Nigeria different?
Agbajo owo lafi soya(we can do it together) , it's left to us.Everyone has one or two experiences about Nigeria.May God bless Nigeria because no matter what, there's no place like home.

Now you are putting in attachements to the case. There is no where in switzerland a fresh graduate (which he meant either bachelor or masters) in switzerland earns 100k basic salary. Nobody was talking about bonus. When you sign a work contract, they dont talk to you about bonus. Its a priviledge, the company can decide not to give that yewr and nothing will happen..
"Fresh graduates in Switzerland can sweep up a CHF100k". That was my statement. Emphasis on the "can". That was not an outright flat rate, but stating the possibility on what's possible Yet! you claimed I was misleading people. CHF 90k(salary alone) is very common, adding yearly bonus, the 100k is normal. But flat 100k is also possible for a few industries because the country has a very good pay rating

Next time try and ask for clarity. In your spare time, you can look up Blind platform and levels.fyi to see real reported salaries for swiss companies. When you think something is impossible, there's high chance it's because your information exposure is limited for the possibility

I was enjoying your writing until you began your unpatriotic and evil heart towards your fatherland.
Japan was built by Japanese
China by Chineses
Australia by Australians
But Nigeria is hated, attacked, abused by Nigerians.
Stupid of you not regarding the birthplace of your ancestors, shame on you.
I have lived all my life in 9ja and I am here to build her.
Finally I know all who left will come here hastily. COVID 9 pandemic is a child's play.
Africa has always been an haven of refuge.

I am originally from Mauritius but I grew up in Nigeria. You're 100% correct. Nigerians are generally very ungrateful and selfish. It's really sad! Nigeria is indeed a very great country but it's people are so bad!!

Bro.. I understand what you mean for us to take back the country. But this is not possible in the current contraption. Divide and rule methodology has weakened the possibility of mass agitation for change. Hausa are suspicious of Yorubas.. yorubas are suspicious of ibosā€¦ibos donā€™t trust the other tribes. Change is difficult to achieve here, plus the sore point of it all - the mindset of an average Nigeria when given an opportunity is ā€œgrab it and runā€ while you can.

Honestlyā€¦ no hope. I came back after many years during OBJā€™s rule thinking things will get better. It has gotten worse since then; Up to a point that I am saving to buy citizenship elsewhereā€¦

I kinda understand what zackmann meant when he referred to Nigeria as a shythole. It is difficult not to see the wasted years of Nigeria in that light. Look at health care, roads, school, infrastructure.. itā€™s sad.

I've been to a lot of countries, and I must say that the cost of living in Switzerland is really high. The average price of a bottle of water here is $5. When I arrived last week, I spent 55 dollars on a pack of bottled water, which didn't even last for a week. I've been here for 9 days now, and I must say that my bank account is really feeling the heat. Everything here is damn expensive. Switzerland is for the rich abeg. Nothing anybody wan tell me. Today, when I went shopping for groceries, I thought I was going to spend not more than 80 dollars, but to my utmost surprise, I ended up spending over 200 dollars on little items. When I was in Norway, Australia and Netherlands, I thought that the cost of living was high (these countries are quite expensive to live in), but this is just on another level. I'm leaving here on Saturday abeg, before my account starts wailing.

Guys, let me use this medium to drop a piece of advice. If anyone is advising you to leave Nigeria, show gratitude to that person, because he/she wants the best for you. I've been touring for 6 months now, and I must confess that Nigeria is a sh*thole. This is actually an understatement. If there was a worse word to use to attribute Nigeria, I'd have used it. Once I'm done with my travels, I'm permanently relocating to a European country. I'm just using this medium to gather my facts first, before making a final decision.

I'm an American citizen by birth, but I've not lived there for 2 straight years; I've been on and off. America is kinda cool, but I've no interest in living there permanently. UK and Canada are for introverted people, in my own opinion. Right now, I'm thinking of maybe Sweden or Germany for permanent relocation. I was forced to learn Deutsch, because I studied in Germany from 2016-2022; before relocating back to Nigeria, to handle my Dad's businesses. I learn languages fast, but it took me 6 months to almost perfectly learn Deutsch language. I now speak English, French, Spanish, Deutsch, Latin, and a little bit of Hebrew. I'll be posting more with time. Merry Christmas in advance guys.

I do not love or hate Switzerland, I am just indifferent to it. Its too bland for me, like a place with no soul, and a robotic existence.

Perhaps some individual like such lifestyle, but I dont, and Swiss will only appear in my destination radar if I want to ski or transit. But to live there or spend up to a month there? hell no.

A living dog they say, is better than a dead lion. It is better to be a dog in a sane country where things work than to be a lion in a shithole country where people die (via Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping etc) like flies on a daily basis.

Well, you misled people to day that 100k is the standard. Look at your post again. 100k is not standard pay for a fresh graduate except they have a phd. 90-95k is the standard in that regard.

They talk about the challenges being faced in the country, and there's the language barrier so there's little to no chance you'll encounter Argentina forum or discussion group online since you don't understand their language.

Saying the truth and criticizing the government will not kill them, if they do more and we can see and feel their impact, we'll praise them.

We also praise them whenever they do good things too, PMB really tried on infrastructure, I continue to give him good props on that aspect everytime. I enjoy the lagos ibadan train, I enjoy oyo to ogbomoso road.

All this charlatans in abroad always come online to talk rubbish, since life is fair to you enjoy it without forcing it on us.

The best Way is for all Nigerians to look for a way to make this country better, if all Nigerians follows this your mindset it means over 200M million Nigerians will have to leave this space and move to abroad. That can never happen because over 80 percent can't even afford to buy air ticket to Ghana.

Since life has been fair to you, all you've to do now is to pray for Nigeria.

Don't come online and tell us that we're stupid to still be in Nigeria. [/quote

Welcome to my world Gerrard. Now you know what we, who lived abroad for ages and have travelled to many corners of the globe, have been saying for years. Your "luxury" in Nigeria is actually a ghetto lifestyle. How can you say that you are living a luxurious lifestyle but the road to your house/business is in a mess, there are potholes everywhere, your house/business easily gets flooded when it rains, people openly defecate roads leading to your house/business, the gutters next to your house are open and your house hasn't been painted in ages? That's ghetto living if you ask me. Observe the areas where the rich in organized societies live and the difference is as clear as day and night.Oh, let's not forget that area boys live not too far from where the rich live.

Gerrard59:

This is true because you have properties going for hundreds of millions of naira in places with no standard drainage systems, no piped water, mosquitoes everywhere and untarred roads. Living in a developed world has made me realise most of what we term "luxuries" aren't luxurious in the real sense of it. The other day on TwitterNG, I saw a Telsa Cybertrunk being driven on untarred roads in Ibadan. That is a "luxurious lifestyle". grin grin

I have yet to even see it all, but I strongly doubt anything "luxurious" in Nigeria would move me again.

Nigerians are really allergic to the truth lol. Yes, the OP could have conveyed his words in a nicer way but the fact of the matter is that Nigeria is a mess. You don't need to travel to Canada, US or Uk to know this. Visit places like Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, UAE or Turkey and you will understand what I mean. Every country has it's problems, ghettos and poor but most functionals countries have something in common that Nigeria doesn't: decent infrastructure, light, good water system, quality education and financial incentives for the working class. Can Nigeria boast of that? That is the question.

Cold fact is us Nigerians are not ready for change because of their corrupt mindset. The day I realized just now undisciplined we are was when, some years back I started using BET buses to commute to work. When we are on the queue, people kept on looking for ways and means to jump the line , so half the time we spent there, people quarreled nonstop. To even maintain the line was a problem because people were always trying to disrupt the line.

It was that period I realized we have a big problem in this country. These same people will carry this mindset of cutting corners into every sector of the economy and call it "smartness", and that's why things are just not working because us Nigerians work actively to sabotage the system for our own selfish benefits. The people in authority are too focused on primitive accumulation of wealth to the detriment of development.

We can't be like Switzerland because we lack the discipline, foresight and selflessness to make things work as they should.

To further the problem, Nigerians see the corruption in chaos in Nigeria and try to export it abroad.
That so many Nigerians could support someone like Trump made me realize Nigeria deserves the chaos and corruption is has. Because people see corrupt leaders in other countries and cheer for them. It means they are ok with it.
Until they aren't, Nigeria can't change.

They also earn an equally high minimum wage.

There's no NATIONAL minimum wage law in Switzerland. Last I looked only ONE state or region had a minimum wage and it was established less than 10 years ago I think.

Switzerland is a product of FREE MARKETS, private enterprise and planned diversity.

They pegged their currency like Nigeria and when they saw themselves heading towards becoming like Nigeria, they FLOATED their currency in 2015.

If Nigeria wants to be like Switzerland, copy the socio-political and economic systems. It's VERY EASY but the PEOPLE of Nigeria will never agree to it.
