It's meant to be a complete movie. Too short for a serie

temitope27:
it's just 6 episode actually, 40 minutes each

Not heard of the movie. Is this a sponsoredpost?

Jacktheripper:
I was on my own, minding my business, just strolling through the noisy streets of Twitter when suddenly, people started shouting about a film called "Seven Doors".

The hype was as if it was the next best thing after the sweet symphony of a credit alert, so of course, I had to check it out.

I dove into the Netflix ocean to find this movie. I said to myself, “What’s the worst that can happen? Either I give someone seven knocks after wasting my data, or I genuinely enjoy it.”

Spoiler alert: it was the latter.

So here are five quick things you might enjoy from Seven Doors, or maybe not.

1. The Music

Now, this might not be the best place to start, but let me tell you, the soundtrack in this film is pure agbalumo sweetness to the ear. Every note was sweet, like baby laughter, except of course at midnight. But the peak of it was the final music after the king defeated Esusu.

My emotional thermostat broke, and I'm considering they play that part when tell me to kiss the bride on my wedding day.

2. Horror? Let’s Talk About It.

See, I’m not one to run from horror movies, but let me warn you now Seven Doors is a part-time horror movie. If you don’t like the sight of blood spraying like fuel from a subsidized pump or accidents so brutal they will turn the screen of your TV to red, you might need moral support to watch this one.

But guess what? Every scene was necessary. No unnecessary kissing and pressing to make you start coughing when your parents walk in. Just solid storytelling with blood and tension here and there.

3. To Marry or Not to Marry.

Who will help me ask the king why marrying six wives was like asking him to donate a kidney? I thought the dream of every king was to have plenty wives and children, or did the memo change and nobody told me?

It took losing his child, half of his sanity, and most of his people for him to agree to marry six wives. Even at that, why was the king so bad at picking wives? How do you pack six problematic women into one big palace?

But the scriptwriters passed their message with this one. In fact, the lesson in there connected like KDB to Haaland, sharp and effective.

4. Cast.

Let’s give it up for the actors. Femi Adebayo (the king) might be bad at picking his wives, but his casting choices were a 10/10. Every actor brought their A-game. Everyone was a perfect fit for their role like a freshly ironed agbada.

The people of the world are saying that the actor who played Esusu deserves special recognition. I agree. But for me, Muyiwa Ademola (The Cubana chief priest of Ilaraland) was the GOAT. I had to rewind a couple of times to see him in action.

5. Erin Ijesa Nostalgia.

The opening scene of this series will hit differently if you’ve been to Erin Ijesa Waterfall. Seven women fell from the waterfall to their untimely deaths, their brains dashed like watermelon on concrete. (Remember, I told you about the horrors). But the waterfall itself reminded me of my last trip there almost three years ago.

And guess what? Erin Ijesa still looks exactly the same. No improvements, no upgrades, nothing. Imagine a prime tourist attraction in Nigeria wasting away like an abandoned JAMB result. But well, this is Nigeria.

What part of the movie did you enjoy most?

It started well, then lost steam. It's just there, a 6 over 10 is the best it'll get from me.

Muyiwa Ademola was the best for me. Especially when he gave parable of a stubborn goat to Adebayo Salami...😁😂😅🤣😆

I am not a fan of Naija movies but I must say I enjoyed this one. My wife made so much noise about it I had to take time out to download it and watch it with her. I enjoyed Muyiwa Ademola's acting to the core...such a funny character.

Any movie that is hyped and promoted on Twitter and Nairaland is almost guaranteed to be 100% rubbish. When producers are paying influencers to hype their movies then you should know that it's pure rubbish

A great series movie,blended with inter-tribal.
You see the king's wife family(Ibo) during their own during king coronation and preparing the king for fight with Esusu.
The storyline is paying the debt of his ancestors.
everything about the film is well played.I never regret using my data to stream it on NETFLIX

Yoruba movie makers have not learnt their lessons. They need to be humble by embracing the reality of the industry. You cannot hype a movie into success, the best you can achieve is a pyrrhic victory of recording high gross but low profit. Stop paying influencers to roam about social media writing ode about a movie that overwhelming majority of nollywood fans will never get to watch on Netflix. A good movie generates appeal naturally. Ask established and famous actors why they make money on YouTube by posting their movies there without paying influencers to hype their projects.

It's overhype that's is ridiculous, especially for bad media product

But no matter what you have to hype an entertainment product else only few will notice it

I laughed out loud at the op's intro. Incidentally, before I read this post, I decided to watch the series this morning and I couldn't finish the second episode. Will keep trying though.

So far, I love the cinematography. Not sure why the producers decided to set the backdrop of the movies in the 80s but I guess I will find out soon. The acting is a bit much in some areas and vanilla in others. All in all, I will give them a score of 3 stars out of 5.

Well done

What people call hype is just a product of good marketing.

If you feel a movie is overhyped, the marketers did an excellent job.
