There has been three stampedes this week alone. One in Ibadan, one in Abuja and another in Okija.

If the participants are forced to obtain a token or tickets thats created programatically, the number of attendees converging physically can be controlled and attended to in manageable batches. This should help avoid so many people showing up and overwhelming the users at such events.

Wetin una think?

In theory, it could work. The problem though isn’t about an automated system. Hunger no dey obey system.

Organizers invite way more people than they can cater for. So people rush and stampede to try and get whatever they can. In other instances, people want to collect more than one pack cos “na me sharp pass”. While this may sound heartless, I have no pity for the dead. Decisions have consequences

Nothing but the honest truth. If we like, make we automate oxygen, problem of bad governance CANNOT be solved by computers. Simple and plain

We should have proper welfare systems in place to take care of these.

Soup kitchens to offer continuous free food services.

Assisted living for the poor.

A database of poor people and their account numbers so money does not need to be given physically.

If the welfare sections of local governments handle these on a regular basis, there won't e any fear of inadequacies leading to stampedes.

Lets be sensible.
If i have 1000 bags of rice to give away and announce on radio or tv for interested folks to come, more than 10,000 may show up and cause a stampede. The 1000 can even cause one because of impatience or greed but a program that limits the tokens or tickets to 1000 slots according to the number of packages available and avoids a physical confrontation of all 1000 ticket holders at once is more manageable. I can evwn decide to invite them the the give away venue one hundred at a time. That is achievable.

It is not everything we must criticize because someone else beat us to the idea.

My sughestion is not a silution to bad or poor or terrible governance. It is for folks looking to give things out and want to avoid too many people showing up at once.
A simple thread in Nairaland saying the first 1000 commenters to signify their interest in a giveaway event will get the chance to come in 100 at a time to get their packages is very similar to what i just suggested. Their password can be sent to them via DM and they can use the account as proof of who they are. Thats all i am suggesting and not about governance.

This is really funny. Have you been in meetings were ideas are fleshed out? And how the idea is “ripped” to pieces until it has been fully thought through? Anyway, point noted. I go dey review my contributions on NL for the new year. Keep quiet and read all of una really intelligent contributions from the sides. Thanks for the feedback

This is not a meeting of blindly tearing down of ideas but a well thoughtout suggestion that can solve the problem. One can even improvise by using a forum like Nairaland to ask interested participants to signify interest and then DM thwm their passwords.

This would only work if you would send them the packages or if the address doesn't leak.

As long as people know the address, it would get crowded and stampede would most likely occur because things are very expensive and most are bearly getting by.

My point is, it's not everything code can solve.
