Let’s Learn To Be Patient When Receiving Palliatives by okrote4real: 12:52pm On Dec 23 |
BY ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM I usually don’t like talking about people’s issues because it’s not my concern. However, what really bothers me is when people criticize others for publicly sharing their acts of kindness, especially when they are helping the less privileged or those with low income. The truth is, we Nigerians often lack patience. The frequent stampedes during palliative distributions are not the fault of the givers or organizers but the recipients who refuse to wait their turn in line. Having worked with several NGOs, I’ve seen firsthand how people disregard simple instructions during distributions. Some try to collect multiple times, pretending they haven’t received anything, while others bring their entire families to increase their share, caring little about whether others get anything. This greed often turns into chaos, with people shoving, jumping queues, and even fighting over food or items. Instead of waiting patiently for their portion, they scatter and litter the items, making it difficult for everyone, including the organizers. It’s heartbreaking that people lose their lives in these situations. Nigerians, and Africans in general, need to reflect on whether their lives are worth more than the palliatives they are fighting for. Yes, it’s hard to ask for help, but we should respect ourselves enough to avoid causing more pain to others or to our families. Let’s learn to be patient and orderly when receiving aid, whether from the government, NGOs, or kind individuals. Patience and discipline can save lives.
