YPP Chair Urges Tinubu To Address Hardship by Jatuski: 8:58pm On Jan 01 |
*Backs tax reforms The National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Comrade Bishop Amakiri, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against the hardships facing Nigerians as he enters the second year of his administration. In an open letter to the President titled, "Power is Transient and Time is Slipping Away," Amakiri emphasised the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s challenges, cautioning that Nigerians' patience should not be taken for granted. “We urge you to take decisive action while time is still on your side to address our nation's challenges as highlighted in my letter and consider the suggested solutions for posterity,” he stated. Amakiri also voiced support for tax reforms, describing them as a timely initiative. However, he stressed the importance of extensive consultations with stakeholders to address areas of contention. “The issue of tax reform is a wonderful initiative that couldn’t have come at a better time. But while at it, we emphasise the need for wider consultation and engagement with key stakeholders to resolve areas of disagreement,” he noted. The YPP Chairman called on President Tinubu to rein in Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), citing concerns over alleged indiscretions. “While the FCT Minister has made significant strides in infrastructure development, his actions in the FCT and his home state, Rivers, have been marked by indiscretions and impunity. If left unchecked, these could lead to political unrest and further damage your administration’s reputation,” Amakiri warned. Amakiri also commended the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for advancing local government financial autonomy. Despite acknowledging some progress, the YPP Chairman criticised other cabinet members for underperformance, attributing the country’s economic woes to their inefficiency. Amakiri urged President Tinubu to address these issues decisively, asserting that such actions are crucial for restoring public confidence and ensuring the success of his administration.
