NUPENG THREATENS TO GO ON STRIKE
The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened a full blown strike if the Federal Government does not implement the recommendations made by the inter-ministerial/stakeholders’ committee on the inspection and verification of Depot Facilities of Members of Jetty and Petroleum Tank Farm Owners of Nigeria (JEPTFON) before December 31, 2011. National president, Benneth Korie, disclosed in Abuja that the report contains recommendations on deregulation that government must look into before removing fuel subsidy or it will destabilize the nation The report, which took three weeks for the 18-man committee to come up with, he claimed, had been on the table of the Petroleum Minister for some time, yet, nothing was done about the important elements of the recommendations. He said: “Most of the time if we react to issues, people will think NUPENG likes strike, no, nobody likes strike. But, we submitted that report three weeks ago yet, nothing was done about it. The most important aspect of it was left out. So, take this from me, if the recommendations are not met before the end of this year, we are not going to give further notice, but you will wake up and find out that we have withdrawn our services.”

Four members of the sect also died in the encounter while 14 of them were arrested with assorted Improvised Explosive Devices and three posh cars recovered. Kano state police commissioner Mr. Ibrahim Idris said the shootout occurred after a suspected Boko Haram leader discovered that his house was under surveillance by the police and called out other members of the group to attack the police. Idris told newsmen that two of the police officers on surveillance duty were killed, and that when reinforcements were sent, one of those officers was also shot dead and another wounded. Some of the sect members fled and were pursued by members of the public according to Idris while the suspected leader, Mohammed Aliyu, who also goes by the alias Hamza, was arrested at a checkpoint. Police said they found rifles in his car that had been stolen from police in Yobe and Kaduna states. Bomb materials were found in his house, according to Idris. The Commissioner of Police who paraded some of the arrested suspects alongside the cache of arms explained that they owed their success to the cooperation of the locals who supported the police. He stated that preliminary investigation revealed that all those arrested were neither natives nor Hausas, stressing that this provoked the locals into action.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO RESIST FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL
Lawmakers restated their opposition to fuel subsidy removal, which the executive insists must be done. President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday presented a N4.749 trillion budget to a joint sitting of the National Assembly. He was, however, silent on fuel subsidy removal, leaving room for the conclusion in many circles that the action had been taken. But Finance Minister Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said on Wednesday that the subsidy remained intact. Speaking with reporters, House of Representatives spokesman Zakari Mohammed, said although President Jonathan was silent on the issue in his budget speech, members would watch out for any sublime moves to remove the subsidy and oppose it. He said: “The status quo is maintained. We have not endorsed subsidy removal. The House of Representatives has not endorsed subsidy removal. And we are saying that we have not brought it to the fore. And this issue will come up when the budget is here. We have taken a decision; we are not taking out subsidy. Definitely, subsidy will have to be in the budget. “It has to be in the budget. That’s the thing. The House of Representatives stands on that fact. We are not going to vote for subsidy removal because there are key indicators, as we have said. We have given those conditions – that our refineries should function. And there are a number of other issues that must be tackled. And these issues are not the type that you just wake up one day and say they are already fixed up.

Don't make large withdrawals in one transaction - Plateau State
« on: December 01, 2011, 14:18:30 »
(posted on another website)

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/12/robberies-sharp-practices-in-banks-the-insiders-connection/

The increasing cases of robbery and other sharp practices linked to the collusion of bank workers is now a source of concern to bank customers in Plateau State.

Vanguard investigations revealed many cases of robbery or attack on customers by hoodlums in circumstances that point to the fact that the criminals were supplied information on the transaction made by customers by bank workers.

Cases of fraud rackets in banks where bank workers collaborate to defraud customers or collaborate with outsiders to defraud their employers using various tricks including tampering with the close circuit camera system to prevent their nefarious activities being recorded were also discovered.

Victims who shared their sad experiences with Vanguard narrated how they were followed from banks after withdrawing huge sums of money and dispossessed of such money.

The robbers, apparently acting on the tip-off from their collaborators within the bank, trail the customers and break into their cars if they stop to make any transaction along their way. In some other cases, the robbers mention the actual amount withdrawn by the customers and order them to hand it over at gun point.

The collusion of bank workers with outsiders to defraud their banks played out in one of the old generation banks in Jos, last week, where a customer travelled from Abuja to Jos to make a huge withdrawal only to return to Abuja where the account was domiciled to claim he was not the one who withdrew the money.

By some strange coincidence, the close circuit camera and the one for capturing the pictures of those who make huge withdrawals did not work when the customer who allegedly got away with a similar trick in one of the Kaduna branches of the banks some years back, made the withdrawal.

It was learnt that the senior officer who approved the payment was summoned to Abuja where he easily identified the customer who, knowing his connivance with some people within, insisted they should produce the picture taken by the camera to prove he made the withdrawal.

It was learnt that the case had been referred to the police for further investigations, especially on the suspected involvement of insiders in the scam.

A top official of one of the banks who preferred anonymity expressed concern about the development and the negative impact it is having on customer confidence but said continuous efforts were on to fish out bad eggs and deal with them.

Efforts to get official reaction from banks on the situation were unsuccessful as they referred our correspondent to the Public Relations Departments of their head offices.

A football fan was shot at a point blank range in a viewing centre in makurdi, this happend at exactly 9: 50 pm during the start of the second half of the game between man u & basle. the victim (A. k.a Tupac) was a final year student of Benue state University. As soon as the shot was heard everybody in the hall scampered to safety including two police officers who happened to be frequent customers in that viewing center. the irony of this story is that the manager of the hall who rushed to the zone B police headquaters to inform the police was immediately detained only to released the next day(thursday)on bail, the police gave him a clean bill to reopen his hall after paying them over 20k only for this innocent boy tbe arrested two days later and has been transfered to the state Cid where he is been charged for homicide. The Victim who Lives within the viscinity is a fan of Man U n watches his football in another viewing center situated adjacent his house, investigations showed that the viewing center where he patronises did not open to business on this fateful day and that must have prompted the victim to change his venue, my Question is this ; why dint his regular viewing center open to biz that day after showing match the previous night? please fellow nairalanders let us analyse this.

Thank you for this very good question, Bluetooth.   It shows you are paying attention here.

The new Nairaland Delta Force is on standby to launch rescue operations or search-and-destroy missions deep behind enemy lines.   The emergency MODALITY remains the same whether you are about to get mugged by a dozen hoodies on a dark side-street in Brixton, London, or whether you are caught up in a home invasion neighborhood communal robbery in Lagos Nigeria.

1.  Write your entry to this specially created discussion thread, describing as accurately as possible the caliber of weapons used by the attackers, and the nature of your own injuries.

2.  Wait for Mini-Ayatollah Buhari Bin Laden to finish cutting and pasting a few more irrelevant and wordy news items dating back a quarter century, to start yet another Nairaland discussion thread extolling the rap-sheet of his Messiah, Muhammadu Buhari Bin Laden.   With that done, Mini Ayatollah will then pick up the RED phone to explain your predicament to the Nairaland Delta Force Strategic Command, which will take the next 72 hours to decide whether your life is worth saving.

3. If you have enough cash money in your bank account to make a rescue mission a good investment by the Nairaland Delta Force, you will be asked whether you are in possession of a GPS device with which to identify your location to the inbound backup team.

4. If you have NO GPS device handy, you will be chit out of luck, but you will be thanked for your cooperation.   If you DO carry a GPS unit for just such emergencies, you will be asked to call out your coordinates, along with your height, weight and unique identifying features, to ensure that the right size coffin is prepared for when the rescue team returns with your mortal remains.

The police here demand money openly from the commercial motorists and even collect change shocked if anybody refused, trouble follows.
This is a clear crime against Nigerian citizens and somebody should please do something to arrest these criminal policemen

This is a very serious offence that you are describing, Karl Marx, and when the culprit is apprehended by the newly inaugurated Nairaland Delta Force, he will be penalized to the full extent permitted by communist decree, which means you can arrogate yourself the discretion to reccommend summary execution of the suspect as a deterrent to others, if the mood takes you.

Now,  returning to this matter of the sugar mommy that you seek.  Can you please explain to the committee WHY it is that you are offering your services as the odd-job man to an older rich woman this Xmas.   Clarification is required, because the exchange of carnal knowledge for cash is technically a criminal offence under Sharia Law, which could qualify you for the attention of Mini-Ayatollah, whose penchant for performing impromptu amputations is well known.

While you pen your confession, kindly list your fixed and liquid asset global profile, so that the committee can put your affairs in order if things go wrong at any point.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please accept our condolences in advance.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please accept our condolences in advance.

THERE ARE 419 ON NAIRALAND. BEWARE!
I want to use this medium to warn fellow nlanders that there some criminals.
I personally was duped by one OYELAMI AHMED ADEWALE, who promised me that upon sending him certain amount of money (4000) he'll link me up with a sugar mummy. I don't trust human beings but he said 'WALLAHI TALLAHI SUMABILLAHI' dat its true.
I took him serious on that oath and sent d money 2 his acount. Account name: OYELAMI AHMED ADEWALE.AC NO.3029821883 FIST BANK. Later i discovered he's a 419.
All this happen between 21 to 23 december 2011.
BEWARE!

you mean you actually walked into a bank, filled a teller, paid your hard earned 4k into an account of a stranger?
just when you think you have seen the height of stupidity, someone goes ahead to break that record.
