A tanker laden with petrol on Sunday burst into flames, killing several persons in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Eyewitnesses told The Guardian that the tanker driver was trying to make a turn on the busy Old Lagos/Asaba Road in Agbor main town, close to First Bank, on Sunday afternoon when the truck fell and exploded.

They said they were helpless in trying to extinguish the fire as firefighters were yet to arrive at the scene, allowing the fierce raging fire to consume several houses and vehicles in the area.

Some bodies, including that of a car owner who was in the vicinity and caught in the fire, were found dead on the road.

Have you seen most of this tankers?
They look like things from the 90s with rusted parts and tanks.

Very fragile, I heard one creaking around a roundabout recently.

There should be integrity tests for tankers their drivers.
They should know which roads they should make a turn with.

And the govt should fix roads that'll be an issue to fuel ladden trucks

The Nigerian Fire Service needs nationwide rehabilitation of infrastructure, equipments and personnel. If the Federal government cannot live up to that responsibility, then they should declutter it and put it in the purview of State governments.

Year in and out, we keep having countless reports of fires all over the nation and containment can be said to be at an abysmal 20 percent, if not less. I don't even know why a State of emergency has not been declared in that sector.

Outside Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, PH and Enugu, I'm not sure any other State's fire service has up to ten fire fighting trucks in their statewide facilities. Fire go just start and until e burn finish, no fire service response. O wrong nau!

33,000 liters tankers should not be allowed on roads like that.

Tankers , trailers and long trucks are not designed for those roads.
