Addressing the symbolism behind his hugs, Senator Kalu explained that they are not mere gestures but carry a deeper meaning, signifying love, respect, and camaraderie. He highlighted a memorable instance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying, “That hug was only for President Tinubu when we sat down to discuss our past, present, and future. We agreed that we needed to work together, and I gave him that hug.”

The Senator also mentioned similar warm embraces with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and a close associate who recently regained his freedom after incarceration.

When asked why he rarely displays affection for his wife publicly, Senator Kalu responded with a touch of humor, “My wife receives her hugs secretly every night. She has even complained that I should give her a public hug so she can have her own picture.”

He further revealed that his wife prefers to stay out of the limelight, describing her as someone who is “publicly shy.” He added, “She never liked politics and does not want to do anything that would put her in the public eye.”
