I don't understand the need to call your boss to thank him for giving you your unwritten entitlements.
A guy was fired for this

Some one told me that when you are working in an establishment that the owner is the CEO, the HR, accountant, head of sales & marketing, head of disciplinary panel, head of logistics, etc......then you might need to do a lot of àss licking and that includes saying thank you for getting what's written and whats not written on your employment contract, ......... thats even if u have a fvcking employment contract

Different work place with different dynamics... Know the system and use it to hold ur paycheck until u can tell them to go fvck themselves

The employee was sacked because the bonus was not for staff welfare. The boss gave the bonus to feed his ego. In fact, it was not bonus. It was that kind of giving that some reach people give the poor in their villages and expect worship in return.

Enough to fire an ingrate of course yes!!! grin grin

Some people did not even collect December Salary, you collect 13th salary, rice and oil, and you don't find it fit to send even a WhatsApp message or text from another person's phone even if your phone is bad... Haba!!! Serious act of negligence and ungratefulness!!

It's a lesson to learn.
Moral of the story, learn to be grateful and thankful even for the little things.

This particular one happened. Why do you think it didn't happen? This isn't even that outrageous or bizarre. People get fired for way less reason.

Ah! Why fire the guy na? Isn't he doing his job for which he is employed well? Why not simply reprimand him verbally and exempt him from future bonuses? This permanent punishment of employment termination is too harsh and just pure wicked.

Sometimes, even "entitlements" require someone in power to advocate for or approve them. A thank-you might be perceived as an acknowledgment of that effort.

Once upon a time, I was in the same situation.
I got a promoted to a new role and my salary got increased.
After a week of receiving the new salary, the accountant told me that the boss is angry that I didn't thank her for increasing my salary. The accountant was very close to the boss, more like her confidante. Don't ask me why she told me what the boss discussed with her.
We read, we don't judge, right...
I quickly put a call through and thanked her.

You're referring to a situation where an employee was expressing gratitude to their boss for providing something that's already expected or entitled, such as a salary or benefits.

In many cultures, it's considered polite and professional to express gratitude to one's superiors. However, when taken to an extreme, it can come across as insincere or even sarcastic.

Regarding the person who got fired, it's likely that there were other underlying issues or performance problems that led to the termination. The gratitude expression might have been the final straw or a symptom of a larger issue.

It's essential to maintain a professional and respectful tone in the workplace, but also to be genuine and authentic in one's expressions of gratitude.

It is not about the contract, hero worship, asslicking or anything of the such.

It is about retaining or refusing to retain workers with proper home training.

Is the guy a money spinner in the organization? If he is not bringing in the cash, I would fire him too.

Good old home training is still useful everywhere you have decent people.

This is the very one reason I took the bold decision and stopped working for anybody ever in my life.

Any little offense and you will be threatened with being sacked. What they fail to realize is sacking someone doesn't mean the end of the person's life. They might be pushing you to a higher destination with that notice but the average Nigerian like to think opposite and remain trapped under those so-called bosses for ages.

The downside of working in a one man business.

That business is likely to fold up with the demise of the oga, that is if he is able to sustain the business with such mindset.

Remove emotions from business. If it was the guys entitlement why does he need to thank the oga. It is business he does his job and the oga gives him his entitlement no more no less.

The guy should be happy that he dodged a bullet.
