Dr. Uzu Roberts Onyemaechi of Ruzu Herbal Products Fires back at Dr. Isa Ahmed of Berekete Family for Defamation Statement on Ruzu Herbal Products

.....Says FIRS demand of N2bn tax payment from N50bn transactions must be paid by Dr. Isa Ahmed, not Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Limited, for using the company's commission account to make other nonrelated transactions.

The fallout between two giant organizations over broken trust, greed, and resentment is about to get messy, as seen in the case of the CEO of Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Limited, Dr. Uzu Roberts Onyemaechi, and the president of Berekete Family, Dr. Isa Ahmed.

Dr. Uzu may likely summon the president of the Berekete Family, Dr. Isa Ahmed, and his lawyer, Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye, to court over the fraudulent use of a GTBank account solely created for the purpose of payment of commission from sales of Ruzu Bitters but converted to personal usage by Dr. Isa and his lawyer, leading to N2 billion in tax owing to FIRS from N50 billion in unspecified transactions. Also, Dr. Uzu fires back at Dr. Isa, aka the ordinary president of the Berekete Family, over defamation statements made in a recent viral video to debunk the aforementioned allegations.

In September 2024, the CEO of Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Ltd, Dr. Roberts Onyemaechi Uzu, was apprehended by the FIRS in Alimosho over an evasion of tax payment of N2,000,000,000 generated from four GTBank accounts with over N50,000,000,000 transactions made in the last 4 years.

The rude shock led Dr. Uzu to do a fact-finding investigation on how he accrued N2bn and transacted N50bn in 4 years when his production capital for Ruzu Herbal Products is not up to the aforementioned amounts. The investigation led him to a disagreement with the President of the Berekete Family, Alhaji Isa Ahmed, aka the ordinary president, who was in partnership with the Ruzu Brand to market the Ruzu Herbal Products as a major distributor and earns a 30% commission from sales of the product.

Dr. Uzu explained that during the partnership period, a separate account for the payment of a 30% commission by Ruzu Company was created using Ruzu Company details as suggested by Isa Ahmed, and it was a GTBank account with Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye (Isa's lawyer) as the sole signatory. However, after a period, Isa Ahmed came up with demands for a 50% commission but was declined by Dr. Uzu, who interpreted Isa's demand as inconsiderate because Ruzu Herbals was newly launched into the market and needed more funding.

Dr. Isa Ahmed, the president of Berekete Family, ended up expressing his discontinuity if a 50% commission cannot be met, and that ended the partnership deal. Meanwhile, four years later, Dr. Uzu apprehended Isa Ahmed after his encounter with FIRS and his findings in September 2024, but Isa Ahmed bluffed his calls and instead went public to discredit the Ruzu Brand.

Meanwhile, the Ruzu Bitters, publicly discredited by Dr. Isa Ahmed, is produced by the multiple award-winning Ruzu Herbal Brand, which has been in existence for over 11 years and appraised nationally and internationally for quality and efficacy. The company has grown organically to become a leading name in the manufacturing of herbal products.

It is also noteworthy that the company is wholly run by a team of experienced, focused, and competent Nigerian professionals with exemplary passion for research and innovation; the company is USFDA, ISO, and NAFDAC certified.

It should be noted that Berekete's lawyer, Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye, was signatory to the Gtbank account created for the 30% commission by Ruzu Herbal Products in 2019; he was also reached concerning the accumulation of tax from the account in dispute but expressed nonchalance and arrogance in dismissal of the claims by Dr. Uzu.

Dr. Uzu said he never suspected any foul play by Isa Ahmed due to his display of integrity, hence the trust to release company documents as an aid for account creation of commission remittances. It is an odd situation where one's lawyer would be the sole signatory to his client's bank account, but he (Dr. Uzu) still had no inclination that the duo was preparing to use the said account for personal gains until four years later in 2024 when FIRS summoned Ruzu's company for unpaid tax of N2bn.

According to Dr. Uzu, efforts to reach a resolution were rebuffed by Isa Ahmed and his lawyer. Affirms that Isa Ahmed, his lawyer Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye, must be held accountable for their actions, calls on the public and the government to be alert on how events unfold, and says he will not be subjected to intimidation or any form of slander to pay for what he knows nothing about as FIRS continues to pressure him on tax evasion for four years, amounting to N2,000,000,000.

As of the time of this report, a letter of demand has been sent to Barr. Uche Ewazuluonye and Alhaji Isa Ahmed, aka the ordinary president of Human Rights Radio and Television (Berekete Family), dated for January 20th, 2025, and has been endorsed by the duo, giving 14 days to respond; otherwise, they will be summoned to court.

LETTER OF DEMAND

The above refers!

We are solicitors to Dr. Uzu Onyemaechi Robert and Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Ltd. (herein referred to as our clients), and we write on the firm instruction of our clients.

Our clients are health care providers who are into the production of organic supplements/herbal medicine for a very long period of time in Nigeria, with the head office at 15 Abdul-Rahamonu Street, Igando, Lagos State, Nigeria.

In 2019, our clients having saturated the whole market in the Southern part of Nigeria decided to enter the Northern part of Nigeria for a marketing tour of their products, pursuant to which the Managing Director, Dr. Uzu Onyemaechi Robert, met one Talatu Uwa Ebune, the Managing Director of Nana Pharmacy in Kaduna State, wherein he introduced himself and the company’s products to the said Talatu Uwa Ebune (a.k.a. Nana Pharmacy) with the intention of making Nana Pharmacy take over the sales and distribution of RUZU HERBAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES LTD. Products in Northern Nigeria. That Nana then introduced our clients to one Isa Ahmed as the Chief Executive Officer of Human Right Radio and Television (Berekete Family).

That our clients introduced the products to the said Isa Ahmed, and he showed interest in our clients’ products. That Isa Ahmed also collected our clients’ products and phone numbers with a promise that if he tests the products and confirms the efficacy of the products, he will call our clients. A month later, the said Isa Ahmed put a call across to the Managing Director (Dr. Uzu Onyemaechi Robert) and asked him to board the next available flight from Lagos to Abuja.

That our client took the next available flight from Lagos to Abuja and met Isa Ahmed at the Human Rights Radio and Television. Isa Ahmed testified to the efficacy of our clients’ products and said all the people he gave the products to also testified that the products are very good and effective.

That Isa Ahmed told our clients that he is going to partner with our client and that he will be promoting our clients’ business and products using his platform, Berekete Family Radio, having certified that the products are effective and the company is in compliance with all the laws regulating the production of the products.

That Isa Ahmed, however, demanded that he will also be in charge of stocks/products and also demanded 50% of the proceeds of the business from our clients, but our clients did not concede.

That after a very long talk with our clients over the issue of the percentage, our clients later conceded to give him 30% of the proceeds of the business, and he accepted. Our clients thereafter maintained a good, cordial, and undisrupted relationship with him from 2019 to 2022 without any hitch.

That sometimes in 2022, Isa Ahmed called our clients and demanded that our clients should jack up the 30% they had agreed on to 50% and that our clients should also make him one of the directors of the company, a demand our clients refused to concede to outrightly, and he started threatening to destroy our clients’ business. Meanwhile, Isa Ahmed and you (Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye) had requested that our clients should give you the company’s documents to open a bank account where proceeds generated from the sales will be paid in and 30% will be taken from, which our clients did, not knowing that the documents were requested for with an undisclosed intention.

That to our clients’ chagrin and dismay, Isa Ahmed went on air using his platform, broadcasting that he has chased our clients away because their products are no longer working and people should stop patronizing our clients’ products just to injure and sabotage our clients’ business.

Our clients did not allow his conduct to distract their business; however, to the greatest surprise and dismay of our clients, sometimes in September 2024, our clients were served with a letter from Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) that our clients owe a tax of about N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) on the ground that over N50,000,000,000.00. (Fifty Billion Naira) has passed through our clients’ accounts with Guaranty Trust Bank, which Isa Ahmed handed to you to manage.

That our clients requested time to investigate this allegation, and our clients discovered that it was the bank accounts opened by you and the said Isa Ahmed at Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) with our clients’ company’s name and documents, which he instructed you to manage as the only signatory to the said account. Meaning you and the said Isa Ahmed were not disclosing to our clients’ monies that were going into and out of the accounts.

Our clients tried to resolve the issue with Isa Ahmed and you (Barr. Uche Uwazuluonye) to no avail and therefore had no option but to contact Talatu Uwa Ebune (Nana Pharmacy), who introduced Isa Ahmed to him and reported to her what has been happening between Isa Ahmed and our clients, wherein she asked Isa Ahmed to take steps to resolve all issues with our clients and to give accounts of all the monies generated for our clients’ business as contained in the following bank accounts:

That instead of Isa Ahmed working with the advice of Talatu Uwa Ebune (Nana Pharmacy), he went on air again using his platform, Berekete Family Radio, to further injure our clients’ business, claiming that our clients’ products are no longer effective, causing injuries to our clients’ business out of malice for no just cause.

Our clients have also demanded several times from you to give them statements of account from the aforestated accounts under your control, the last of which was a letter written to you dated 13/12/2024 by our clients, but you have ignored and/or blatantly refused to give the said statements of accounts to our clients.

Pursuant to the above, we demand that you and Isa Ahmed give accounts of all the monies that passed through those bank accounts at Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) and any other bank you used our clients documents to open an account, pay the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) the sum of N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira), and any other monies demanded by FIRS as tax.

Finally, we have our clients’ instruction to demand, and we so demand that you submit to our clients all the bank statements as requested via their letter dated 13/12/2024 forthwith.

Where you fail to comply with this letter within 14 days, we shall be left with no option but to commence appropriate legal proceedings against you without any further notice.
