A speeding driver has tragically killed a 12-year-old girl and left her 15-year-old sister critically injured after recklessly driving on the BRT lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the heartbreaking incident in a statement by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Monday at Ogundare bus stop, where the driver, yet to be identified, struck the two siblings as they returned from school.

Both victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Orile-Agege General Hospital. Sadly, the 12-year-old did not survive, while her older sister was transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation, vowing to bring the driver to justice. He also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving, emphasizing the dangers of violating road laws.

The tragic incident has reignited concerns over road safety and reckless driving in Lagos, sparking calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
