Shalom. For anyone to enter God's rest and Shalom, they have to have done good in this life and pleased God.

Praying for the dead is worthless if they are already condemned but I also understand some don't want such souls to come out and begin to torment others as demons 😁😀,...
It's not possible.
Ignore Nollywood and their knife chasing ghosts screenplays.

RIP is a mere wish.
Considering the fact that only God know where our souls go after death, we the living can only wish our loved ones to be at peace wherever they headed.

Or
Maybe during funerals we should start saying stuffs like may ur soul go wiaeva it deserves.

Op Does dat make you feel berra??

wishing RIP for the dead isn't bad. I only wrote this to show it's background isn't scriptural and that it isn't necessary.

I am a Deacon, don't be too blinded by scriptures, there are times you need God, Jesus and Holy Spirit to guide you and give you understanding. Thank you, happy Sunday 😊
What's this one talking about?!. God the father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Spirit who make up the BLESSED TRINITY will never contradict his scriptures in his dealings. I hope you're not God of Chosen deacon tho.

Not really.

All pagan traditions have this prayer in their funeral rits.

Catholics just made the words popular since they acquired many nations
Not all...we don't have it in Yorubaland

'In such cases, divine judgement is suspended and the dead are given another opportunity by God to miraculously live again in fulfillment of their destinies'

Can you please, expatiate on this paragraph with scriptural support?

Thanks

Lazarus died for four days, and yet when Jesus prayed him, God rose him from the dead! (John 11) This clearly shows us how powerful God is over space and time!

Blessed are those who are dead in the the Lord for their works follow them.No amount of prayer can help the dead because their works are finished the next us reckoning and judgement.

Once a person dies, thats it.

There is no life in the grave, dust thou hath, dust shall thou return.

There's no difference between a man dying and a rat dying. Once dead, ni difference between man and stone
judewrites:
The solemn words "Rest in peace" which are commonly used in referring to the dead originates from the latin prayer "requiescat in pace" meaning "may he or she begin to rest in peace (Amen)".

Unknowingly to many, each time we say "may his or her soul rest in peace" we are actually offering a prayer for the dead which is not biblical.

The bible never teaches that we should pray for the eternal rest of the dead as some religions do.

Once a person dies, they face judgement from God (Hebrews 9:27) and their fate is sealed eternally in heaven or hell. (Matthew 18:9)

The only prayer we can offer for the dead according to scriptures is the prayer of resurrection. (2 Kings 4:32-35, John 11:43-44, Acts 9: 40-41)

In such cases, divine judgement is suspended and the dead are given another opportunity by God to miraculously live again in fulfillment of their destinies.

We don't pray to God to forgive the sins of the dead or repose/rest their souls.

Offering prayers for the peace of the dead are rooted in heretical beliefs in 'purgatory'_a temporary place of purification until one is fit to enter God's presence.

Personally, I have always doubted the use of "rest in peace", because it's not scriptural to pray for the peace of the dead.

But to we that are alive, what's the meaning of life like Solomon pondered? (Ecclesiastes 1)

The whole essence and meaning of life is to please God; we are purposely created to please Him most especially through faith, praise and worship. (Revelation 4:11)

No matter what you are or have, life is meaningless and miserable outside pleasing God.

To live fulfilling lives on earth and to ultimately make heaven, our lives must be well pleasing to God:

📖 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
— Matthew 3:17

It is not right. You can use rest on. Anyhow the person is resting depend on his record while alive.

You can't use it for a dead muslim since they will likely continue their struggle to satisfy 72 virgins in their hell especially those that died in terrorism.

If Jesus can say "pray for ur enemies" then saying RIP is part of it to both loved ones and enemies. God has d final judgement not man

Not true.

Infact, hell fire is located in the center of the 🌎 and uncountable billions of people are crying for mercy and blaspheming God daily.

Heaven is a place of unexplainable beauty and pleasure. No one who had a divine revelation of heaven wanted to come back on earth. It's so glorious beyond human imagination, so terribly too is hell. Make your choice wisely.

Rest in peace is a religious beliefs, and the last time I checked, so far it did not affect ur faith in God, good.
Meanwhile, I encourage everyone to study scriptures well. Who told u, we go to Heaven or Hell after death, I write to be corrected.

You are spot on.
malvisguy212:
Rest in peace only make sense if you live a godly life on earth, you will rest in peace. in Isaiah 57:2, it says, "Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death."

This verse suggests that those who have lived righteously will find peace in death.

It's a 'wish' and not a 'prayer' in the real sense of it.

That's the problem. Believe what? What does RESURRECTION mean? Fraid "just believe" doesn't cut it at all.
