he Edo State Police Command has condemned the killing of 16 travellers along the Uromi/Obajana Expressway in Udune Efandion Community, Edo State.

The attack, which occurred on March 27, 2025, saw a group of travellers ambushed, lynched, and their truck set ablaze by vigilante members and an enraged mob.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the victims were among 25 travellers aboard a truck with registration number KKF 225 XA, which was transporting them from Elele, Rivers State.

The truck was intercepted by vigilante members at Uromi, who found some of the passengers in possession of locally made dane guns.

The vigilantes reportedly arrested some of the armed travellers, but as the situation escalated, an alarm was raised, labelling the group as suspected kidnappers.

This led to a violent attack by members of the community and passersby, resulting in the lynching of 16 travellers and the destruction of the truck.

The statement read, "While this was ongoing, some vigilante members raised an alarm of them being suspected kidnappers, which led some members and passersby in the community to attack and lynch sixteen (16) of the occupants while the truck conveying them was equally burnt.

"Police operatives attached to the Uromi Division got wind of the incident and swiftly stormed the scene where ten (10) of the travelers were rescued, two (2) of whom sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to a hospital where they are currently positively responding to treatment.

"In the course of investigations, fourteen (14) suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, while an emergency meeting was convened with stakeholders and members of the community to address the situation.

"In the meantime, a unit of Police Mobile Force personnel with other command tactical teams have been deployed to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order, while the Commissioner of Police reiterates the need for peaceful coexistence among various groups, and urges residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue.

"She also cautioned against any form of reprisal attacks or unlawful gatherings that may further escalate tensions," Yamu stated.

For where...?? It's normal for hausa and Fulani to kill others....i remember during buhari's Era ..presidency said "its better to give Fulani and hausa your land than for them to kill you "

Nigeria is just a crime scene on a normal day...so leaders don't even care until e reach their side

Gbola Tinubu is as weak as his first name when flaccid

I don't see why a southern president with his kinsmen and loyalists in all key security settings still cannot go after this wicked people causing trouble in Nigeria
Or does Gbola Tinubu also have hand in the insecurity ...i'm just confused

Fulani lives Matters abi?
OK.
Let the Nigerian police also use the same energy and alacrity to hunt and arrest Fulani herdsmen that have been villagers and kidnapping travellers across the country.
Let it not look like the law is protecting the criminals only.
These Fulani men are killing people up and down, I have never seen Fulani men arrested.

These Fulani miscreants kill, maim, burn and kidnap people everyday and go free with zero arrests and prosecution. This didn’t take 24 hours and they’ve already made 14 arrests. Useless people

They have arrested innocent citizens.

Very fast to arrest suspects in the South but no one has been arrested for Samuel Deborah's murder after how many years.

Las las its the injustice and unfairness that will destroy this contraption called Nigeria

That community should be taken over.
This is collective guilt and murder because from the narration,it seems it was members of the community that raised the false alarm of the hunters being kidnappers and every other person present acquised and took part in the broad day light gruesome murder.
The police should seal the community.
It's not enough for just 14 people to be arrested,it was a community arrest, prosecution, judgement and execution!
The same people they labelled as kidnappers have been active in the community according to their defence,so while hasn't the vigilante entered the forests to confront the kidnappers who usually operate with AK 47,but yet now showing their overzealously on disarmed travellers?

This is one thing I love about the south, they condemns evil and tackle it.

But the north will always cover evil. That's why evil came and stayed in the north.

That's a good move NPF.

Police will be quick in the south south but in the North they'll claim lack of resources.

The ghost of Deborah Samuel will haunt jihadist forever.

Edolites be on the look out for reprisals.

That was fast. No one is allowed to take the life of another in the name of jungle justice.

But then, why is the government not using this same energy in hunting down the killer fulani herdsmen terrorising people all over the country?.

These guys have been branded 'evil killers', so why still travel such distance with guns?

Sight of a fulani man with a gun or dagger may signal danger at this insecurity period.
Government better address this properly.

Probably innocent victims were burnt and killed.

Probably innocent guys will be arrested and prosecuted too. That's the issue with these kind of action.

An average Yoruba or Igbo walks around without weapons on him. But why does northerners always carry knives, rifles etc on them. Govt needs to address this.

COMRADES are speechless, definitely I know it will lead to this, because the kidnappers we have been seeing so far operate with AK-47 guns, and not those hunters guns we have seen up there

I know this where police will have the power to arrest..but when Fulani herdsmen kill innocent people.. police will keep quiet and feel unconcerned.
It's a pity

The community leaders and stakeholders should be arrested as well. They'll identify members of the vigilantes, all those living and doing business in the area should be arrested as well.

Let them free those guys jawe

What were the victims doing with Guns, Matchets and Axes ? Are they supposed to be moving around with such weapons because they're hunters?

Even police men submits their guns once they close from duty.

The community already has witnessed alot of attacks and kidnappings. Even if those guys are innocent you can't blame the mob as well

Anyone can acquire a dane gun in Nigeria, the Fulani kidnappers don't use dane guns, they use AKs.
