Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, ordered the final forfeiture of seven properties linked to one Muiz Tijani Adeyinka, a former staff of First Bank Plc, Times of Nigeria reports.

The properties are: Plot 9, Block 28 Itunu City, Veritas Homes & Properties Ltd., Aiyetoro, Epe Lagos State; a three-bedroom flat described as Block A, Floor 6, Flat 2 (Block A/6/2) Le Moriah Residences Estate, Off Kusenla Road, Ikate Ancient City, Lekki Penninsula, Eti-Osa LGA, Lagos State; a parcel of land known as Block L1, Plot 13, Amen Estate, Phase Ill Extension, Abomiti Zone, Lekki/Epe Express Way Epe LGA, Lagos State; a parcel of land known as Block 3, Plot 13, Arizon Estate , within Idera Scheme Allocation via Eleko Junction Ibeju-Lekki LGA; one plot of Land within Arizone Estate, Idera Scheme,lbeju-Lekki LGA and one plot of land within Itunu Residential Aiyetoro, Ibeju-Lekki LGA.

Others are : a parcel of land known as Plot 7, Block 4 Itunu City, Veritas Homes & Properties Ltd, Aiyetoro Epe LGA, Lagos; a parcel of land known as Plot 1, Ido Gwari 2 Extension, within Ochacho Real Homes, Ido-Gwari 2 Extension, LifeCamp, Abuja and a parcel of land known as Block Q, Plot 25, Tiara by Amen City Limited, Along Lekki/Epe Express Way, Yeguda Resettlement Scheme, Epe Lagos State.

The judge gave the order, following a motion on notice filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos through its lawyer, Zeenat Atiku.

Justice Dipeolu had earlier ordered the interim forfeiture of the properties and also ordered the publication of the said order in a national newspaper for any interested parties to show cause why the properties should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government.

Moving the application for the final forfeiture on Thursday , Atiku told the court that “no one showed cause within the 14 days window granted after the publication.

Atiku also stated that the application was supported with an affidavit deposed to by Isah Yusuf Nadabo, an operative of the EFCC.

In the affidavit, Nadabo told the court that Tijani worked at the settlement office of the bank and that he had the capacity to carry out some inalienable access available only to the office by virtue of his office.

He stated further in the affidavit that “He, therefore, carried out illegal, unauthorised and fraudulent activities against First Bank Nigeria Plc.

“Investigation has thus far revealed and traced the sum of N35billion (Thirty Five Billion Naira) benefitted by Muiz Tijani Adeyinka and his cronies. “

Atiku, therefore, told the court that the properties traced to Muiz were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.

After listening to the EFCC’s counsel, Justice Dipeolu held that he found merit in the argument of the applicant and ordered the final forfeiture of the properties to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

What type of bank official will have such access to this kinds of amount of not managers or really high ranking officials at managerial levels? With access to this kind of money why will I be in Nigeria instead of investing and living abroad to enjoy the loot?

Unfortunately we don't have strong systems in place to discourage this looting and corruption and that is why when the average Nigerian finds himself in such tempting positions he ends up falling because look at how people like Yahaya bello and his likes are living freely and are even trying to sabotage a dully elected senator so as to take her position and escape trail..

That is why the average Nigerian would rather still massively when given the opportunity because those who are supposed to be leaders to show examples are worse, from the Number 1citizen down to the Judiciary and police all rotten to the core.

Real sad and as long as Nigerians are NOT ready to change and start electing the right people to power,Nigerians will continue to steal when they get the chance to do so. It is what it is sadly.

So if given such an opportunity, your preferred action would be to loot the company that you were employed to be part of its success story. How can you expect to invest any money that you stole and have peace? Remember the words “no peace for the wicked”?

What a shame.

Not at all,I was just wondering why someone would loot that much and think they won't come after him if he remains in Nigeria..

Don't mind them.

Someone worked in the settlement department of the biggest bank in the country and they are still disputing the story.

Anyway, definitely other people would have been involved and compromised but it only takes one mastermind to take advantage of weak controls, which by now everyone should know Firstbank has had for quite a while.

Could also be a deal gone wrong.... Make I confess small
I mean, as bank settlement office paro,
- na dem dey run visa bank account job, if u need confirm visa bank statement even for 1 billion, dem go run am for you.
- na dem dey run bank account capitalisation proof for those SPV companies wey dey win all big big government contracts wey dem no get neither shi shi nor office nor track record.
- Na dem be the highest lenders of money, based on ur family relationship or culture or tribe or religion, I dont mean the bank lending you money, I mean settlement office workers giving you loans via miracle money with bank alert in same 1st bank.
Na dem know the bank e float capital, na dem know who get 5, 10, 15 billion etc wey dem never ever withdraw even kobo for the last 5 years, na dem know unclaimed funds of unknown persons, na dem know unclaimed funds of known persons for example, Helinues dey bank with 1st bank and I come see im funeral for nairaland front-page, I knowsay Helinues don die, but im family no knowsay im get account or money for 1st bank.
As what u don't know would not hurt you, settlement officer as me go contact yarimo and zero8zero my 1st bank customer paddies, I go then transfer Helinues im lifesavings of 30k NGN, 7k to Yarimo and 23k to zero8zero, dem withdraw, dem bring we share.
Or them give the money out as loan.

Just explaining how settlement officers operate, if u know u know.
The use of the word "1st bank" in my statement is as an illustration and I am not in any way affirming that 1st Bank Nigeria Limited is involved in the fraudulent practices above-mentioned.

On the other hand, it's AtikuObi for the future.
An Atiku President and Obi Vice President.
The difference this time around is because Its Obi who has to choose Atiku to become President and he will become Vice President.
This the reality of Nigerian opposition politics today.
If Obi chooses any other Northerner as President or Vice President apart from Atiku, he will fail and APC will win again.
Kwankwaso/ElRufai/Bala Mohammed or a combination of their electoral value can't get what Atiku alone can obtain in the North.
This is the last chance for a much loved and much hated Ibo man in this 4th Republic to become either a President or Vice President.
The day AtikuObi 2027 campaign starts, Tinubu will definitely return to Iragbiji with Wike because he will lose in Lagos this time drastically.

Thank you for correcting yourself.

Integrity is a serious problem in our nation. We are at the level where stealing, looting and all forms of corrupt practices no longer matter to the people. Bring home the money, no matter the source and get the praise and support.

We need strong, honest leaders, who can help us get out of the mess.

Cheers.

A bank that generates hundreds of billions annually, 35bn is definitely possible. Must not have been stolen over one yr. Usually over a long time

I don't agree with you. Banking is one of the oldest professions in the world and employees have found various ways of stealing and mismanaging funds from time in memorial.

Anyway 35 billon NAIRA is still small compared to Nick Leeson (who I believe still holds the record) of $1.3bn, and that was Barings Bank, one of the oldest and most respected financial institutions in the world, before he irretrievably bankrupted it.
