The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has pledged to ensure a free, fair, and credible local government election scheduled for July 12, 2025 across the state.

The Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Mobolanle Okikiola-Ighile (retd,), gave the assurance on Tuesday during a meeting with representatives of registered political parties in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that LASIEC had earlier announced that elections would be conducted in all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Okikiola-Ighile emphasised the commission’s impartiality, stressing that its mandate is to serve the people and not any political interest.

“We are not for any political party we are LASIEC. We are here to conduct a free, fair, inclusive, and credible election,” she said.“Nobody among us is a card-carrying member of any political party. Let us be nice to ourselves. We are not your opponent; we are working for the betterment of this election.”

She added that all LASIEC officials had taken an oath to uphold transparency and fairness and that the commission is fully prepared for the upcoming polls.

Addressing the political parties, the LASIEC chairman urged strict compliance with the electoral timetable and guidelines, which are set to be published on April 17.

Campaigns and rallies are scheduled to begin on April 18 and will end on July 9, just days before the election.

An administrative fee will be charged for processing nominations, though female candidates will only be required to pay half the standard fee.

Details of the revenue code and agency code for payment will be included in the published guidelines.

Okikiola-Ighile also disclosed that verification of candidates’ documents will be conducted at the LASIEC headquarters. Following the exercise, a list of validated candidates will be displayed publicly at the commission’s office.

In addition, political parties must submit the details of their polling agents between June 23 and June 28, and provide a verifiable secretariat address to the commission
