Liverpool and the police are investigating an incident which took place during Friday's 5-1 FA Cup third-round win over Oldham at Anfield, where visiting defender Tom Adeyemi was seemingly the target of alleged racist abuse from fans.Just when the aftermath of striker Luis Suarez's eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra was dying down, the Merseysiders have found themselves having to deal with another issue.

Late in the game the 20-year-old, on loan from Norwich, appeared to take offence to something shouted from the Kop.

Despite reassurance from his team-mates, Dirk Kuyt and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, the right-back was visibly upset and seemed close to tears.

There then appeared to be discussion between the fourth official and a police officer down by the tunnel while the match was continuing.

Liverpool confirmed an incident took place, although said there had been no arrests, and added investigations were continuing.

''An incident occurred in the second half of the match which is now being investigated by both the club and the police,'' said a statement. ''We will continue to work with the police to establish the details of what actually happened and will make a further statement in due course.''

I was watchign the game yesterday and it was amazing how the whole Liverpool crowd started to Boo him afterwards. Its a Disgrace! Just shows the point that Racism still exist in the UK. They just keep their mouth shut nowadays but in their mind, they will call any black/brown man/woman all sorts!

Watched the match yesterday and I felt sorry for the poor guy.

I am a Liverpool fan and I know what we are going through with the loss of Suarez. I watched the match but why would anyone not consider what QPR fans did against chelsea in one of their games. Fans can do anything but when a player does the same then I fully support more than what was meted out to Suarez.

Some people are mad that liverpool did well yesterday. What makes you think I'm not a Nigerian. In fact for those who said there is no black man in the squad. Glen Johnson is still in the squad. They had Ngog and Babel. Currently there is a yoruba guy in their academy doing fine.
