It is such a disgrace that a woman put on so high a pedestal will go on air and make utterances that will cast aspersions on Nigerians Intelligence.
She was the same person lamenting during the town hall meeting on the distrust Nigerians have for their leaders:
[li]They told us that the fuel subsidy will kick in 1st April 2012, it was removed 1st january 2012[/li]
[li]They told us that they were supplying 1600 buses they have cut it down to 1100 [/li]
How are we now to believe anything they say.
My main grievance is that had we kept quiet and accepted the subsidy they would not have thought of taking a pay-cut(25 % of basic is ridiculous) and put a clampdown on excessive travelling.
when you have a combination of sanusi, iweala and diezani coming out to present a blueprint of how they will spend subsidy monies without cost, timeline estimates of each project then it becomes worrisome. if the gains of subsidy removal is time dependent then I expect the blue print to have been ready.
Constituting a subsidy board after subsidy removal just shows the lack of planning on the part of the government.
I for one am for subsidy removal but not by our present leaders because in a nutshell they are corrupt, there is no assurance that the savings will not be looted or the projects awarded and executed transparently. For me to have faith in this government and the subsidy removal let us see a move to investigate and prosecute the cabals and their cohorts, If Jonathan has the balls to defy the masses that voted him into power let him be bold to go after the cabal, let him be bold to privative the refineries, let him be bold to take a 25% cut on his gross and implement same across board for other political office holders. The so called buses where commissioned with a ceremony tape and all with the president, finance and transport minister and their aides present, they got to the ceremony in a convoy of cars fueled at the present pump price and paid for with our monies this is the wastage we have been talking about.

Seriously, the finance minister just unleashed how clueless they are about what petrol means to the people. She mentioned only transportation which is just one of many issues the removal of the fuel subsidy will affect but she and the government doesnt know that the people are too fuel dependent cos we use fuel to run various types of businesses, genaterate power for domestic uses etc. Just imagine someone that has a car, living on the mainland and working at lekki, The person has to pay the toll fashola just imposed + the N141 per litre petrol for his car and generator, the prices of everything will increase while the government is putting 1100 buses in place to help the people. Its really a big shame that we have people that doesnt know what we need as leaders,

They told us that they were supplying 1600 buses they have cut it down to 1100

Further evidence that it's same old government propaganda. ALL LIES LIES LIES.

For all you care to know, those buses might not be more than 800, na today?

Didn't Oyo state propagate buying 200 buses while it was only 55 buses bought?

These ain't about buses anyways.
Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Al-Jazeera Interview On Fuel Subsidy Removal by Revsola: 11:30am On Jan 09, 2012
1600 buses can never be enough, not even for 3states
Now to Ngozi Wahala, Please park your load and go back to your slave trading boss in IMF.Nigeria cannot accommodate you.
Even if fuel subsidy is removed permanently, it will just be shared among the political wigs to garner more jets, more women, more overseas properties,

It is impossible to trust a set of people who have not shown themselves to be trustworthy

These pple are just playn on our intelligence. They always think we are fools. Hw can 1100 buses cater for us? Don't they av environmentalist to advice dem dat diesel causes air pollution? Can d whole buses cater for only Lagos? Are these buses meant as cargo buses dat will convey goods too? If other buses(petro buses) dat we av been used to are to carry goods, then what happen to d multiplier effect on food, genarator etc. Let somebody tell these pple dat we don't need all these their inefficiencies and lies. We need dem to biuld our refineries PERIOD!

Is provision of more buses to the already congested bad roads in Nigeria going to cause more good than harm? Are Nigerians complaining about scarcity of buses? This government is clueless, i swear!
Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Al-Jazeera Interview On Fuel Subsidy Removal by morewat: 1:09pm On Jan 09, 2012
The problem is that this government is saying the right thing but it has a very bad implementation. What i understand about this what they are saying is that they want to allow market forces to (demand and supply) to rule oil sector in Nigeria. But the present state of deregulation which is putting a fixed price on any particular commodity against its cost of production (which does not allow for any profit making) is discouraging people (investors) from investing in refineries instead the investors will buy at regulated price here and smuggle it out and sell it at a price that is higher than that of Nigeria. However, if it is deregulated, with time there will be competition in terms of quality and quantity among the investors and the price will be forced to the minimum especially if it is being refined in nigeria. But people will have to be educated, enlightened and convinced because it will initially bring hardship.

My simplest analysis is that the problem is no longer fuel subsidy reversal, but that we the Nigerian people have had it up-to our noses, because the people elected and appointed by the elected see the majority of Nigerians as daft (lying and decieiving us at every turn) and therefore do not consider it necessary to provide transparent and accountable details of their plans and strategies in simple terms so that the people they SERVE can understand. Unfortunately, majority on this platform are still exhibiting different kinds of sentiments and still use terms like 'our leader's, but I am happy that many are beginning to pick up the budgets to analyse for themselves and are beginning to ask questions from the "public servant's. Put simply, GEJ and everyone working under him are public servants and are out there to serve and should serve in the best interest of the Nigerian people, and when the people talk they should listen. Nigeria has been broke for a long time and they did not care, they are now only worried about generating more money, because they have calculated that very soon those in government would not be able to get their fat salaries and allowances and therefore they turn to the masses to vomit every penny in their pockets to keep them in the office; at least I heard that much from the parliamentarians who voted against the motion yesterday. How can you beat a child and tell the child not to cry? the palliative agenda is actually, designed to create another cabal in the transport industry. They have provided N10B revolving funds for few transport owners, granting them import waivers and zero interest rates. Why should a government that is regarded a leader, beg transport business owners to keep price down, when in other civilised clime, they use price control agencies to regulate inflation. Where is the price control or consumer protection agency in Nigeria? My people let's grow above ethnic sentiments and learn to hold government accountable in an objective way. Every child in America and UK is thought their rights right from basic classes. The basic fundamental right is the right to express yourself. Why should Nigerians expressing themselves in Lagos and Kano be killed by the police? We need to rise and fight against all this efforts to muzzle us up, and create disunity amongst us because some people somewhere are benefiting from it! God bless Nigeria.

Its a really a pity that our leaders are soooooooooooooo corrupt. One can deduce from the interview that okonji wahala is carrying out her employers (imf) orders and it will not work. okonji and her household will run mad by fire.  Jonagoat will never know peace until he does the right thing.  Nigerians are tired of the political class.

Some quotes:

"The govt understands the feelings of many Nigerians because transport costs have gone up and the govt is trying to make sure the benefits that come out of the removal of this subsidy are put into programmes that directly benefit the people and bring down costs.

"For instance, this afternoon president Goodluck Jonathan launched a programme of mass transit to improve bus and road transportation for the people so that the cost of transport can come down. About 1100 buses were put on the road and the road transport workers association has agreed to bring the costs down because the buses use diesel which has been deregulated for quite some time so there was really no need for costs to go up.

"What we're doing is trying to bring the benefits of the subsidy phase-out to bear, so that prices can come down. For instance, the price of transport is set to come down because the transport worker's association has accepted that there was no need to increase the price of bus transport because buses use diesel, not petrol. And so they are going to bring that down. In addition, we are working with other transporters to try and bring prices of transport down.

"We are also working to improve other services which affect the population. For instance, part of this money is going g to be put into services for maternal health and child mortality. We have one of the very bad indicators for maternal mortality in the world and it is unconscionable that our women should be dying in childbirth whilst we're using money to subsidize [petrol] which the poor people in the population do not get. so we need to improve these services to the people.

"We are going to be improving roads. Of the $8 that goes into the subsidy, $4 billion will go into improving road transport and rail transport, and the rest will go into supporting the creation of employment for youth, improving maternal mortality, and into mass transit programs. These are all programs in which the poor in the population will benefit much more than they do from the issue of subsidy."

A simple analysis of the fraud called Subsidy for the year 2011:

Assumptions
1) Actual price at the filling station = N141 (which is actually far from the truth; i.e. over priced)
2) Daily consumption = 35 Million litres (which I strongly believe includes other West African Countries like Ghana, Cameroun, Benin, Chad, etc.)

Here comes the simple arithmetic for the 365 days in 2011
(141 - 65) * 35 E6 * 365 = 970.9 E9 (i.e. approximately 971 Billion Naira)
Government claim is approximately 1.4 Trillion Naira
Thus stolen amount, even with the lies inherent in the assumpions above, is given by: 1400 E9 - 970.9 E9 = 429.1 E9 (i.e. approximately 429 Billion Naira)

The question now is: who is fooling how?

My conclusion
GEJ should go after his fellow cabals and allies and leave the already impoverished masses alone. When he is sincerely done with that maybe the masses will give listening ears to his theoretised transformation plans, which they have over heard in the past with nothing to show for it.

Gbam!!!!!! I wasted my time yesterday listening to the live broadcast yesterday. This woman is a serious joker, she knows nothing. Imagine the so-called hon. minister of finance was asked about the boko haram issue and she started talking rubbish about inclusivness and creating employments and skills acquisition program. Fellow Nigerians, We all know that boko haram is a faceless group which has never made any demands or even trying to dialogue with powers that be. All they have said is western influences is evil. So, what the hell is this woman talking about
Even if you give Nigeria 5 more years, train transport will still not be in operation and the money used to provide mass transit buses and fuel them where is it coming from

To further show that these people are just quoting figures
Okonjo Jonas claims that out of the purported $8B to be
saved $4B will be used for bla bla, then the balance used
for, My question is, is she not aware that any kobo saved
will still be shared among other wasteful arms of govt leaving
the centre with abt 50&? So where lies the understandingof the
policy? For goodness sake how did we get to sorry state?

Lies! Lies!! Lies!!!
Firstly, i lost some respect for her, she is not as intelligent as i thought, she seem to be reading a script, well, not surprised, politicians do it here too, they demand for scripts of questions to be asked before hand, no pause, just blabbing and blabbing.
However, her responses are not intelligent as from a technocrat of her status.
Mass transit program?:,  those buses will use water instead of fuel? right? the 1100 buses will reach all nooks and cranies of Nigeria and immediately ameliorate the transportation problem. One just wonders why they suddenly came up with this idea after the fuel subsidy removal, not before.
Transport worker have agreed not to increase prices? really?,  Does all buses use diesel? Did Govt. buy those buses for them to tell them how much to charge?
To use the money saved to reduce maternal mortality rate: Oh the Govt. just got wind of that problem? so they removed subsidy to fix it.
To create youth employment: Oh that problem just started too! and yes GEJ must remove subsidy to fix it.

So what will the Govt remove subsidy from to fix bad roads, bad educational sector, terrible health sector, no electricity, e.t.c?

Anytime Aunty Ngozi speaks, just remember most of us think she's an ECONOMIST. No, she's not. She's an Urban and Regional Planner who happens to work with world bank and move up the ladder. She cannot handle Finance or Federal Reserve in USA. She only knows much about Breton-Wood economic policies and she will always turn mugu as she knows no Jack about Nigeria's Behavioural Economics and how much it deviates from their suggested economic policies.
