Are We On The Brink Of War? by Chuks84(m): 6:31am On Jan 09, 2012
1967, due to econominc, ethnic, cultutural and religious tensions among the various peoples of nigeria, particularly the north and southeast; the incessant kiilings of the igbos in the north, the refusal of the government to take any decisive action on the increasing state of insecurity in the nation, all these eventually led to the Nigerian Civil War
.
Enter 2012, I see a replica of the events that preceded the brutal biafran war, the christians in the north are being slaughtered like rams, the nations security is in shambles, bombing has become the order of the day. A mass exodus is already in effect, the southerners are leaving the north, the northerners in the southeast for fear of reprisal attacks have headed back home. Sounds familiar?

Instead of addressing the issue of insecurity, the present government has chosen instead to heap more hardship on the shoulders of the longsuffering nigerian in the name of subsidy removal. This has led to mass protests, meanwhile the menace known as Boko Haram are threatening a total decimation of southerners in the north if they don’t leave, the Nigerian Labour Congress is geared up to commence an indefinite strike action, the nigerian public is already taking to the streets, organizing mass protests which might result in violence.

And where is our president? Jona! Where are you? He’s in South Africa, Celeberating ANC’s 100th Anniversary! This is after delivering a recorded speech begging nigerians for understanding, promising heaven and earth. Jona promised us that foreign trips would be reduced to the barest minimum, but while his house was burning, he saw it fit to take 2 aircrafts and an entourage of about 200 officials for a party in South Africa.

We all see the warning signs, the nation is already bursting at it seams, we are being led by a man who revels in taking “suicide prone” decisions. Everything is going wrong, prices of goods and services are skyrocketing, our roads are bad, we don’t have electricity, our leaders keep on looting with ease. As the mass protests begin today, I shiver when I think of all that might happen, will this be the beginning of the long awaited revolution? Are we going to tow the same line as the egyptians and libyans? Only time will tell. God help us.
