They are now all afraid! Okonjo Iweala says its the Governors! The governors cannot talk!House of Rep and Senators asking for reversal! Let them understand! even if they revert to N65 per litre, that is not the end of this issue! We are going after their jumbo allowances! How can a Senator collect allowances of over 100k Dollars a month and want to maintain that status quo? #occupynigeria will continue until we remove all those unholy allowances! Policital/Public Office should not be an avenue to feed fat at the expense of Nigerians! nonsense!

It's not enough to convey the message to him, let them sack that Bastard called Gej, enough of all these disgrace. Even Ghana of yesterday are laughing at us. This is what happens when we put an "illiterate" educated man in charge of a complex society like Nigeria, a man who couldn't even debate to tell the masses what his plans were for Nigeria. I recommend that from the next election, all Governorship and presidential aspirants must undergo three qualification stages:

1. Written tests
2. Oral interviews
3. Finally, Debate!

Well, this is crap reporting from this newspaper. Senator ndoma egba categorically made it clear this morning that the senate never reached such a conclusion. They are instead trying to mediate between the two parties. In his words on political platform(raypower) this morning 'we cant take a position because we are mediating between the two parties, '

Is it not the same national assembly members that initially agreed that the fuel subsidy be removed, so why are they now crying foul and pretending as if they are not part of the scheme. They are all bunch of thieves that never want this country to move forward.
Re: Senate Asks Jonathan To Revert Petrol Pump Price To N65 by Nobody: 1:40pm On Jan 11, 2012
This is no longer a protest against subsidy removal. It is a protest against corruption and bad governance. The National Assembly is playing to the gallery because they are a major part of the problem. They are just scared of what might happen to themselves if these protest goes on for too long.

Even if they revert to the old prices, we should continue to protest. What we want erradicated is corruption ans wasteful governance. Government should own up to the responsibilities of serving the people and not themselves.
Re: Senate Asks Jonathan To Revert Petrol Pump Price To N65 by rhymz(m): 1:43pm On Jan 11, 2012
Some of us are just wishing sha . .lol. . Let's face facts here, impeaching GEJ is tantamount to asking for this country to divide. Did you guys watch the house of rep proceedings at all? Most of the members that supported the removal were Niger Deltans, that tells a lot. Their views of the situation is very different from many of the ordinary Nigerians that support the removal. They on their part feel like the rest of the countries are exploiting the Niger Delta oil without giving enough, it is more about preserving and a gradual control of their own resources than anything else to them. There were even northerners that sounded outrightly condescending and rubbished his abilities. The other guy( a northerner) in an effort to cause more drama in the house and stir more anti-GEJ sentiments amongs Nigerians openly riddicled GEJ's dishonesty in declaring that he was going to cut official travels when actually he had already jetted out of the country with an intimidating retinue to RSA. The igbos obviously sat on the fence as they were neither here or there in during the whole dabte.
Any attempt to remove GEJ will greatly polarise this country and even worsen the case, it will look like that has been the agenda all the while. I am sure the Eastern region will greatly oppose it, even the south westerners will drop the whole protest and become tactical as well, cos it will fast become a struggle for northerners to usurp power through the back door and surreptitous use of other unsuspecting regions's support as the ultimate winner of course will be the northerners who will rather a Namadi Sambo Presidency than GEJ who they obviously do not like.
GEJ had better be careful not to play into their hands as the people urging him do not have his best interest. For instance, when people were busy insinuating that GEJ was in RSA celebrating while Nigeria was in going in flames, his information minister did nothing to debunk the rumours. Despite the fact that he had declared state of emergency in some parts of the North coupled with the heavy presence of the Nigerian forces yet Bokoharamist find it relatively easy to cross states, wreck havoc and disappear unscathed into thin air. He GEJ, has in different occassions admitted that the Nigerian forces were compromised and the Bokoharam group had infiltrated them and his government. To even prove that there are deliberate forces working against his government and the whole insecurity is self-made; take the wild protest that has characterise the north since the begining of this strike yet that would have provided the BokoHaram sect an easy opportunity to wreck more havoc if actually they were killing indiscriminately and careless if one was hausa, muslim or northerner, instead it has been a resounding deaf silence from them. They wont wreck any havoc of course because the ordinary people are doing a great job causing GEJ headaches in a more effective way than their resort to bombing southerners, christians and GEJ's igbo supporters. I know they are hoping and praying to their allah that this protest degenerates to an impeachment proceeding as is being threatened. Little wonder the whole of the eastern region have been exercising reluctance and caution cos we know this could present the aboki's an opportunity to usurp GEJ's government and replace it with Sambo there by consolidating their control once again. We need to be careful what we wish for as a people and dumbo GEJ had better start using his brains before he allows his weak resolve throw this country into a protracted civil war.
Re: Senate Asks Jonathan To Revert Petrol Pump Price To N65 by Baxilexi(m): 1:45pm On Jan 11, 2012
i've watched from the sidelines for a while and now i think i should say sumin. . . I would like to address certain issuses systematically
1stly. . .impeachment: nigerians wise up!, which of the other presidential candidates is worthy of the position. GEJ being there was necessary, @ a time when the south south, south east niger delta as a whole was about to revolt against the government only jonathan would have been/ is the best candidate. Imagine an hausa man or yoruba man in power, do yu think nigeria would have been stable.
2ndly, boko haram. . . Alot of people do not understand the concept of boko haram, its more of an idea than a group, if i go outside my house and setoff a bomb i will say boko haram(layman enough??) so govt officials who want to truncate jonathans tenure are the ones called boko haram.
3rdly, fuel subsidy. . . My people this was an inevitable action, for as many that would like to understand the evil behind the tint called subsidy,  . .google it. . .it was over budgeted and inane, pms(petrol) is sold in the us for $2.4 per gallon(3.79litres), a litre @ d us price should be 101 naira, so why are we experiencing 140.
Also, oil sector worker have been in the game of making the government pay for non existent fuel, eg am an oil company, am bringing in 20 barrels of pms, the budget will state 30barrels. . . After the government has paid, i would still export fuel meant for local consumption to cotonou, togo etc and sell it @ international prices.
Jonathans fault in all this is . . . .
B4 subsidy removal he should have tackled the problem @ hand, increase security @ the borders.
If he can't outrightly punish the 1% cabal guilty of the crime, he should give us their name, that should be the anger that fuels the NLC.
Jonathan needs our help, we are to guide not condem.
If jonathan did not address this issues by the year 2015, nigeria will be in pauperized, we would be reciving aid from the UN(US) of which some of us know how that turns out.
Also, if i were to directly advice the president
sir, use the leadership by example theory.
Nigerians, whatever allowances the president and the arms of government are enjoy was not set in jonathans time. Note that his salary is set by the NASS.
As i was saying. . .nigerian government officials should be paid a bit lesser than those in south africa, we cannot call ourselves a develpoing country but yet a senator earns more than obama or GEJ's/VP'S feeding allowance is equivalent to obama's 12years salary.
When that has been implimented, GEJ should provide the so called pallivates, which he claims will cushion the effect of subsidy withdrawal. Then he can remove subsidy.
I have a problem with NLC, this group has been infected by the notorious corruption, nigeria has a problem, please look beyond subsidy removal and help solve this problem, the problem of corruption. And if we have to take jonathan to the cross lets pull along the two thieves(in our case several).
Lastly, in whatever way you can please educate the people around you. Jonathan is an iota of the problem facing nigeria. . . Before you go out to protest ask this question. . . Will reversal to 65 naira per litre solve nigeria's problems? As i said its illtimed but . . . Hey he started with the wrong agenda, lets make sure he carries out the rest.
Thank you.

In as much as we are being too harsh on Pres. Jonathan, he has not helped himself in the first instance and he has only himself to blame. If majority of the people that put him there, say they dont want a particular policy just because it doesnt favour them then he should yield to their demands and if he refuses then impeachment proceedings can be carried out against him.

As Nigerians groan over fuel subsidy removal, one of the proponents and architect of the controversial policy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has just purchased a massive home in Maitama, Abuja for a whooping N1.2 Billion, pointblanknews.com investigation has revealed.
The Finance minister allegedly paid for the property located at No 3 Nwaora close, off Gana Street, Abuja in November 2011, according to a source at the Property Management office.

Gbawe:

No one is getting emotional and that much will become obvious to you very soon. There is no justification whatsoever for anyone to speak in defense of the wickedness going on. We are all Nigerians and know how hideously 'subsidized' ou leaders are. GEJ now callously wants to abrogate fuel subsidy for 160 million when we know largesse of office subsidy him and a few enjoy is far more than what they wish to take away from the vast majority of Nigerians.

They bankrupted this nation with an "operation totality" effort to secure the offices that control our commonwealth. All ruinous hands and AGIPs were on board for that ambition. Now , even if not politically sophisticated, it is obvious Nigerians will not stand for it because this level of anti-people conduct is not even near what some leaders have paid a heavy price for worldwide.

Gbawe! Please try to ignore those paid agents. Bribe has belouded the senses of reasoning of these bad eggs.
Most of them don't even understand what is meant by impeachment.

Gbawe:

My guy we are not fools here !!!! You think we don't understand that  a senate headed by David Mark is doing this to forestall attention moving onto their own jumbo package Sanusi insists is around 25% of the budget? Nonetheless, who will you blame for the opportunism of our legislators other than the President who passed up several opportunity to get Nigerians on his side?

If they now throw GEJ under the bus, what is your grief about considering GEJ sought to protect the interest of these same people with his "leaner Government not possible" stance While Amosun simply wrote the legistators in his State to secure "leaner Government".

I don't understand fans of GEJ such as yourself. You see everything others do wrong , and indeed comment on that, but you fail to acknowledge the actions/inactions of GEJ that has gotten him where he is today. For how things have changed worldwide, a Nigerian President who will be successful must seek to get Nigerians on his side ASAP because of the evil in our political system.

It is ordinary Nigerians GEJ should seek to impress yet me and you saw from day one how he has always courted and empowered"strong men" i.e the governors, Danjuma, Gusau, IBB, OBJ, Anenih, Haliru Bello et al. If GEJ is a good student of modern history, he will note that events worldwide, in a social networking age, means that leaders must do everything not to 'lose' the people.

Do you think Nigeria can exist , in a vacuum, oblivious to social changes worldwide? GEJ has not made one pro-people concession to date. If he is made the sacrificial lamb by the elitist system he is helping to sustain and prop up then that is poetic justice for a leader who never believed in courting the support of those who matter i.e ordinary Nigerians.

There is no point trying to figure out GEJ fans as myself, likewise how myself cant figure out a Tinubu fan as yourself . .

And i don't see anything wrong in what people critisize him for, all i see is the hypocrisy in the criticism of others . . .

His large retinue of ministers is backed up in the constitution . . .and if your fellow ACN  lawmakers can't use their presence and authority in the NASS to move a motion for constitutional change to that effect . .who are you to complain when you or none of the Tinubu fanfare club has sent in one yourself . . Sitting idly and complaining about a process you can commense is not doing justice to the arguement . . We just sit and complain without no personal efforts made to justify the vocal energy being released

Your amosun angle is funny . . . Cos if that is to be used . . .then mandate your ACN crew to do same to the NASS . .easy to pick up a reference init . .

I repeat if the people focus on the executive without equally calling out the legislature . . .your fight is as good as dead . . .hailing the NASS should not even suffice because it favours your starkly anti- GEJ need . . .it should rather be to hell with all you all . . .Then Jmaine would feel so happy that things are finally falling into place . . .but as far we maintain a one sided approach . . .i won't follow the herd mentality . . No apologies . . .

If we must do the right thing . .then it must be done to a logical conclusion . . Not what is being celebrated and hailed on this thread . . .

Re: Senate Asks Jonathan To Revert Petrol Pump Price To N65 by DanKan0: 2:09pm On Jan 11, 2012
Best thing for GEJ to do is revert back to 65 a litre.

Impeached = Niger Delta unrest + possible splitting of country
N140 a litre = Number 1 hate figure in Naija + possible future massive unrest in the country that leads to splitting

Either way the fisherman has ignited change in Naija one way or another.  cool

Well, let's wait and see how that goes, impeachment, LOL cheesy cheesy cheesy In Nigeria is where you want to try and impeach a president? Was it not same people who claimed that he had backing from western powers? An agent of IMF/WBG? Same protesters claimed that the EU and UN approved a "vote of confidence" for is someone you want to impeach? I'm laughing because it's only someone who hasn't witnessed that wrath of his god that calls his god to a fight. Again, with the prevailing corruption in governance, impeachment proceeding WILL be stalled and grind to a complete halt,

Let's watch and see how it plays out.  grin grin grin

GEJ is not a bad man, he just hasn't the craft and gut to deal directly with the country's entrenched graft and its proponents. So, he has decided to pack sand under the feet of these graft merchants, (like a weak wrestler who couldn't grapple chest to chest with his opponent and so had to watch for an opening to pack his feet) the same sand of graft on which the average Nigerian ekes out a living. our legislators take to their homes large part of budgetary allocations as salaries and allowances, their are therefore bound to be "sympathetic" to the plight of the masses because the expected cuts on some of their extra sources of income: there will be no more "construction companies" applying for subsidies. Many of them have pecuniary interest in these 'subsidy companies'; that is even beside the must-be cut on their needlessly huge allowances which Nigerians have continually asked the govt to scale down, to at least, 1/3 of what they presently take home. While they remain silent on the popular call to curtail their randy financial attitude, they now jump on the bandwagon of the Nigerian masses who are genuinely demanding better conditions of living. We can argue that elected govt officials are the voices of the masses that gave them those offices; yes, yet what have we seen? Mansions here and there while pot-holes on our major roads continue consume the lives of road travelers. GEJ needs time and the support of ordinary Nigerians to move us out of this culture graft and waste. The people can always come out to remove him and his team if they fail to deliver within reasonable time. It's time we gird up and support painful but necessary policies that can change our lives for the better.

I think people should understand that the cost of this subsidy suddenly jumbed from 280 billion naira per annum in 2009 which was its original cost to the whooping cost of 1.4 trillion just in 2011 and u think the best way to correct the anormaly is by heaping the pains on the masses than to set up committees to monitor the process and get to know the quantities these guys actually import. Subsidy became our right when the govt. failed to give us refineries while we are waiting for one, so why cant they fight those who have abused our rigth bureaucratically and not by ill fated policy implementation that is detrimental to the interest of the masses. Why is mr president making it to look like the subsidy is what is delaying our infracstrctural developement. We mean he can actually correct the anormally from where it started OR CAN'T HE FIGHT CORRUPTION AT ALL without all these hassles.Tackle the responsible few and not the innocent masses. Does it mean that all our taxes, and the 320billion naira generated every day by the government aside other avenues waiting to be exploited will not be enough to give us the much acclaimed infracstructure. IF ANYONE HAS ANSWERS TO THESE PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO LET US KNOW, SO WE COULD BE BETTER INFORMED.

i think there is urgent need for impeachment of the preisdent with seriousness and full sense of responsibility to start immediately.the impeachment should be one that will replace him.and not one for the cameras.the country is in crisis.if those that claim to represent the people directly in the senate and house of reps. cannot do something, then it looks like everyone will drown in a sinking boat.so,it is in the hands of those who represent the people to prove their worth and tell us that the millions they are being paid is not for nothing.people in their respective constituencies should ask their respective reps. and senators to go ahead with impeachment.the people must be heard.write to your reps. and senators and tell them what you want.

at least if Jonathan and his vice are gone and David Mark takes over,i see peace.the north would be pleased because Mark is someone like Gowon to be viewed and taken.the christians would not feel cheated as the muslims felt when Yar'adua died,as Mark is a christian that will replace Jonathan.and also Mark is a retired army officer who is expected to be tough with the security situation in the country.so please,Nigeria needs some peace.we cannot allow bloodshed by the wreckless and weak police force brutalizing civilians for Jonathan's sake.this is democracy.voting for someone and winning election is not the end of the democratic process and do not ensure dictatorship.we cannot also continue with the frequent massacres in the north.someone who is serious and responsible capable of handling the affairs of the country should take over.this fuel subsidy removal is even a good opportunity for the people to demand change.before the fuel subsidy removal the country was in problems and the president did not act as a president.

Again, don't let your hatred cloud your reasoning. Sorry about the error you know fake news has been spewing different figures so you really can't blame me.

Again, like I said, I said she was a top executive @ WBG, has 20+years experience with more than 12+years hold "top executive positions" so there's likely that she has money before AND after she left WBG, AND BESIDES, the woman has other sources of revenues so I think it's ONLY FAIR if you want to compare, compare her to other execs in large financial institutions as large in capital to WBG, look at their executive pay and golden benefits and then compare.

What has DC politicians got to do with this? Besides, if you want to compare, start with people who have achieved her level of success in the financial world --- large bank execs such as Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, don't come here telling me she's a politician. Don't politicians (Tim Geithner) live in million $$$ home? How about Secretary of state? In fact, give me time, I will compile a list of politicians that live in million $$$ home (their own HARD EARNED MONEY). Tomorrow if Obama buys a $10million, they will criticism him of fraud, meanwhile according to his last year taxes, he brought in more than $6million from his sale of books etc,  My friend, leave the matter for Mathias

Everyone calling for the urgent need for the impeachment of the president, as a compromise , how many of you have recalled you House of Reps and Senators?     You guys think it's all that easy to impeach the president? You will spend all year in the politics of trying to impeach him, besides, do you honestly think GEJ will not spill the beans? Let's be watching and see the outcome because everyone knows that Senate is as guilty as the CABALS. The ONLY reason why Senate has mouth now is because protesters haven't focused on their expenditures, the moment people focus on them, you will see how easily they will balk,  Who wants their money removed ?

@manny4life,
you ended up composing a very beautiful and meaningless article. it is beautiful because u did not say impeaching his is impossible. do not forget, it took less than 24hrs to impeach his former boss and handed him over to a waiting efcc bus. do not forget, jonathan does not know who his enemies are. bayelsa will be too hot for him to live in and he may not be allowed to go home after impeachment rather he will be asked to explain all the killings.
listen, any house that is divided against itself will never hold. God is about doing a new thing and confusion among this criminals will be our stepping stone. impeachment may not be the only option as any one on khaki may decide to say, FELLOW NIGERIANS, with the situation in the country, a state of emergency has been declared. jonathan may go the way of saddam hussien and gaddahfi.
i told my friends, protest will happen here and they said, nigerians are coward and i told them, if egyptians could wait for 32 years, libyans,42 years anything is possible.
jonathan in his madness have said repeatedly, THERE IS NO GOING BACK ON FUEL SUBSIDY. we are out to remind him that he did not vote himself rather we did.
even without the senate and senators, we will get to where we are going but the senators are only playing along to stay clear of the impending dangers.
if you have access to badluck, EBELE, awolowo, aliyu badamasi jonathan, tell him, nigerians are out to practise what they have been wacthing on tvs all over the world. he must be smart to hear the words of wisdom. okonjo iweala is an american and will leave without his consent. bayelsa state with an agrieved sylva will not be conducive for him.
he (badluck) told gbagbo to leave power and listen to the masses, today gbagbo is in hague. there is every possibility that badluck will meet gbagbo in hague because lives are been wasted by his armed men and the whole world is watching.

@Gbewe
You are correct. Gej is facing two enemies now: the bad and the good. The bad elistist for their losses and the good masses for their pains. He has erred on both side. I doubt if he can survive this. This good change of his was not not properly thought out. He understimated Nigerians' masses many of whom do not even understand was the oil subsidy is.
