Rivers civil societies demand Jonathan’s resignation By Clarice Azuatalam 3 hours 17 minutes ago Font size: President Jonathan Civil society groups in Rivers State are demanding the immediate resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his cabinet if they fail to meet their demand of reversing the pump price of petrol to N65 per litre. The groups which stated this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday also demanded the immediate sack of Ministers of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke and Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as well as that of the Governor of Central Bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi “for deceiving Nigerians with wrong-headed economic fallacies.” The statement which was signed by representatives of Civil Liberties Organisation, Rivers State; United Action for Democracy, Rivers State; Occupy Port Harcourt Movement; Occupy Niger Delta Movement; Child Protection Network, Rivers State; Social Action, Port Harcourt and Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD) also asked for “the immediate sack and prosecution of all Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation staff involved in monumental corruption associated with the fuel subsidy regime.” Another demand the groups made was “the immediate arrest and prosecution of the blood sucking cabal that had been tormenting Nigeria.” In addition, they asked the Federal Government to “immediately embark on a three-year strategic plan to overhaul the energy sector and ensure adequate domestic refining capacity during this period. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/33018-rivers-civil-societies-demand-jonathan%E2%80%99s-resignation.html |
