The Attorney General of the Federation, Bello Adoke, on Friday, declared that it was unconstitutional for the governor-elect of Kogi State, Idris Wada and his running mate, Yoni Awoniyi, to have taken the oath of office and ordered that the speaker of the state house of assembly take office as the acting governor.

Kogi is one of the 5 states in which governors were sacked by the Supreme Court on Friday.

The Sacked Kogi governor, Ibrahim Idris had called the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state, Justice Shuaibu to administer the oath on the Wada and Awoniyiafter the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasiru Ajana, declined.

Ajana had declinedto administer oath on Wada, requestingtime to study the judgment and get further clearance from the Supreme Court.

After the AGF declared Wada’s swearing-in unconstitutional, Ajanaadministered oath of office on Abdullahi Bello, speaker of the state’s House of Assembly in the Assembly complex.

Bello, who immediately took over the running of the state, promised to be a good leader during his short stay.

Wada is expected to be sworn in as governor by April 1, 2012.

Similarly, Bello Adoke directed the Speakers of the Houses of Assembly to takeover governance in the 4 otherstates where the Supreme removed the governors from office-Adamawa, Bayelsa, Cross River and Sokoto.
