Igbo Jews, here they come again. grin Instead of going to UN for support to actualize Biafra, approach Israel for support to wipe Nigeria out! angry grin grin

http://igboisrael..com/2009/07/igbos-of-nigeria-and-their-osu-problem.html

Few excerpts below, . . .

Among the Igbos one is an Osu if one is a descendant of an Osu man or woman. In other-words one is an Osu if one is a member of an Osu family. Osu families exist in almost all the clans that constitute the Igbo people. Accordingly the Igbos know who is an Osu, because Igbos proper identification is by their clans and families. The writer; Remy Chukwukaodinaka Ilona can be very easily traced in Igboland if the person interested in tracing him finds out that he is from Ozubulu. The next step is to ask about the Ilona family, and in minutes the author will be accounted for. The same way the author could be traced is the same way that Igbos know who is an Osu and who is not one.

Since most Igbos would remember, the Osu is among the Igbos an inferior Igbo. He or she could be very well educated, and be super-rich; but to the rich, educated, very religious, poorest, not educated, and irreligious Igbo, he or she is still an inferior person. He could even be a Christian priest, thus falling into the category of Igbos that command respect among the Igbos today, yet to the Igbos he is still inferior. He is less than a ‘normal’, ‘freeborn’ Igbo. An Osu man would not be inducted into the prestigious ozo society of the Igbos, nor would he be made a traditional ruler in any Igbo clan, even if he is the most qualified member of the clan. .An Osu can hardly get a spouse of his choice from a non Osu Igbo family.

Today only very very few Igbos know why the Igbos treat fellow Igbos in such an ungodly way. Physically the Igbo who is an Osu, and the one who is not, are the same. They shared the same Igbo culture (Omenana), which it must be mentioned that the Igbos have generally abandoned, as they are abandoning the Igbo language. Since the Igbos are almost all Christians today both would invariably be Christians. Yet in spite of all these shared commonalities the non Osu Igbo still looks down on the Osu Igbo, and would not intermarry with him or her. A few Igbos, a few that can be counted off one’s fingers have tried to cross the lines. Their families have generally disowned and ostracized them so that the entire family would avoid the taint, and the disadvantages that follow being an Osu. Today there are millions of Igbos consigned to perpetual spinster-hood and bachelor-hood because of this problem. Well meaning Igbos; of Osu, and non Osu stock have tried to fight the problem, but have failed woefully, because rather than getting weaker, the discrimination is getting stronger. In my opinion Igbos have failed to tackle the problem successfully because the matter has not been studied at all. Any problem that is not studied cannot be solved.

I am from a noble Igbo family that was chosen to become a royal family when the Igbos began to have kings in imitation of their neighbors; the Igala, and the Bini.

we have a human crisis and should be referred to UN, along with other crises that are being reported.

haahahahaha. . . . honestly, ibo need to look in the mirror. If you wonder why everyone reject you its because you reject your own people and karma is on their side. God is fighting for the osu against the callous, cold and inhuman treatment they receive on their own land and meted to them by their own brothers. I spit on ibo freeborn for his shameful ways.

. . . . confirmation that ibo was civilized by its neighbors. they never had kings in their history and explains also why they never conquered anyone or anyland. Without a king to lead an expansion campaign they remained unknown to the West African civilizations and Imperial societies. Now that they have been taught by the Binis and the Igalas . . . they since became aggressive trying to assert their uncivilized culture in parity with that of their colonizers - the Binis and Igalas.

do you know what evolution is/ when we had kings yorubas were still running around Unclad in thier bush (which they have not developed up til now) by the time we evolded into republican nation the hausa fulanis conquered you and made you their slves from the north while the binis conquered yorubas and made you slaves from the south. nri remains the oldest kingdom in nigeria thousands of years before yorubas well turned to slaves by hausas.

yorubas dont have a calendar, yorubas dont have a writting system that is because yorubas never evolved ,yorubas never had a trade network that is because they never had a nation of their own but were enslaved by hausas and binis.

igbos never conquered their neighbours because they are peaceful and civilized people and were more interested in trade network , a peaceful and stable neighbour is good for buisness and at the same time were never conquered because they protect their boarders, go and ask hausa jihadist what happened to them when they tried to ,they abandoned their campaign and picked on the weakling yorubas .

Honestly speaking, both the author and poster are dunces of irredeemable proportion. The idiotic writer indicated that both Osu and Diala shared the same Igbo culture (Omenana) which I believed gave rise to issue in discuss. If Osu and Diala share the culture and tradition, why is the author having migraine headache?

There no doubt the author is dead stoned when concocting this junk. If Ndigbo had generally abandoned the culture which stood-up Osu and Diala issue as they have abandoned the Igbo language, which the writer brought to the fore, the author should have discerned such system died a natural dead if he or she had few brain cells.

I guess stupidity can not be fixed. Sometimes, it is an inherent thing. What has King or Queen got to do with civilization? There were various systems of government all over the world.

Some people chose monarchy or Oligarchy while few decided to adopt democracy or representative form of governement. Ndigbo happened to adopt democracy or representative system of government. Even the colonialists did not understand the complex system Ndigbo ran before they arrived at the coast of Africa.

Is it not funny the same colonialists who did not seem to grasp the system adopted by Ndigbo are forcing everybody to go democracy or else.

I do not know much about certain behaviors of people in Yoruba land except they are loudmouthed. However, nobody in Igbo land with a drop of royal blood would want to navigate to a public place such Internet forum in order to announce his or her royalty. You and the author of such trivial junk are irredeemable nonentities.

IBO Apartheid

In the Southeast of Nigeria, the people of Umuode in
Nkanu East local government area of Enugu State, who are said to be the descendants
of the Osu, are being treated as second class citizens. In their Oruku community made
up of Umuode, Umuchiani and Onuogowu, the people of Umuode have limited social
interaction with the rest of the community because of their ascribed Osu status. And
strangely, the other two villages cannot intermarry with the people of Umuode.

No matter their social status in the community the local churches could hardly appoint the
people of Umuode to positions of responsibility. Thus, the people are made outcasts.
This class ostracism is operated in such a manner that any person from the other side
of the community who talks to, or greets any person from Umuode, pays a fine
sometimes as high as one Thousand Naira (N1,000). Because of this situation the
people of Umuode operate their own local market different from the Eke-oruku market,
which is owned exclusively by Umuchiani and Onuogowo.

The people of Umuode have waged wars against this social stigma; about five major conflicts have been recorded in
this area since 1995, and many lives have been lost (Agbaegbu, 12 Jan. 2000).
The people of Umuaka community in Imo State, Nigeria, categorize one of their ten
villages Osu. Other minor lower caste groups found in many kindred are given the
pejorative Igbo expression of ‘ndi ejiri goro ihe,’ meaning those who are sacrificial lamb
to the gods. They are slaves to the gods of the community and kindred. As is the case
in Umuode in Oruku community, the discrimination of the Diala against the Osu in
Umuaka affects marriage and relationships of love with the Osu and the rest of the
community. The Diala is traditionally and socially abhorred and forbidden to marry an
Osu; intermarriage with Osu is an abomination.

However, some communities, for example, Nnobi in Idemili local government area of
Anambra State, have been able to fully integrate their Osu population into the
mainstream of the community. 8 All other Igbo communities should emulate the good
work of the Nnobi community and work harder to bridge the Osu divide in their areas.
In Umuaka the Osus who are interested in politics in the community are not getting the
necessary support from the rest of the community. This has greatly hindered their social
upward mobility in the community. In the past the avid supporters of the Osu caste
system would even refrain from eating (dinning) with them or drink from the same waterwell
(pond) with the Osu.

As noted earlier, this type of behavior could be likened to the issues during the civil right
struggles in the United States when the ‘whites’ and ‘blacks’ were prevented from
drinking from the same public fountain (Smelser 1981). In the past when the Osu
discriminatory behavior was taken to the extreme, those who believed in the system
would even refrain from touching the Osu for fear of being transformed into an Osu. In
addition, in the past the ardent supporters of the Osu caste system would not buy
whatever the Osu merchants had for sell in the local market. During that period in
review, there was an apparent superstition that the ghost of the ancestors would haunt
any person who was friendly with the Osu. There has been some slight improvement in
social interaction between the Diala and the Osu, although inter-marriage between the
two is still seen as a social taboo by the Diala.

In the late 1980s, the Osu people in Umuaka revolted, as they could not take the
humiliation from the Diala any more. They physically assaulted a couple of women from
the Diala section of the community, with the intention of transforming the women to Osu
so that the Diala would reject them. The action would also give them the taste of the
pains and humiliation of the Osu status. The brouhaha that followed this action was
short-lived, as the Diala in the community responded with counter forces. In Imo State
alone over 60 of such incidents have been reported since 1979 (see Ezeala & the
Association for Social Justice (not dated); and Agbaegbu, 12 January 2000).

Tribal war aside. In all seriousness, the Ibos should do away with this practice. It is wrong and inhumane to condemn a set of people to eternal damnation.
This is year 2012 and not 1800. This crap MUST stop!
