Hi all. I've a degree in geology. I'm contemplating writing some professional certification courses that are related to the oil and gas sector. I'm considering the following areas: pipeline welding, safety and geosciences. Which should i go for? Honest, unbiased opinions pls.

There are no professional certification qualifications in the Geosciences per se (unless you would consider an MSc as one). However, some organisations run short courses on non-geology but oil industry related techniques like HSE. These certifications would NOT give you an advantage if you intend to have a career as a geoscientist BUT could be helpful in seeking related jobs in the oil/gas industry. The choice is yours . . . .

Check out www.nebosh.org.uk for HSE certifications and you can also google BOSIET for training centres available in Nigeria.
