sad Just Today, I concluded that Police is Our Enemy and not the other way round. Under two days, they forcefully extorted N4,600.00 and my precious time from me for no offence. All in the name of I want to know you better. cry

I need not to go into details here, because I'll just pour out my rage here, What I want to know is, is police truely your friend, what's your experience with them? angry

What exactly happened
Re: Is Police Truely Your Friend? My Ordeal With Them. by naira4doll(m): 9:59pm On Oct 18, 2007
now, here goes the details-

angry Yesterday, as I was returning from somewhere, they stopped me, the Oga who was sitting in a shade was the one that actually asked his boys to stop me, he said that he fancy my car and has been targeting me. He checked my papers and everything where right except that in the certificate of ownership, the model no, and the car color were not stated, he started long lecture of how important they were, that if i don't corporate, he'll take the car to the station, knowing what that means, I had to part with 1k2 though he demanded for far more.

Today, while on my way to Ife with my girl friend, they stopped me right in front of their barrack, no errors found on me, the guy said he wanted to know me better, he asked what i do 4 a living, I challenged him, asking him what's business is my business to the police, when he insisted that he must know me, i told him my name and that am an e-gold exchange, they claimed that e-gold is scam , they took me in and made me write statement. My girl friend called her police friend who came but when he took the matter to the D.P.O, those thieves claimed I refused to drive into th station, they called it a no.1 offense.
, it's a longer story.
At the end of the day, they made me drive in, to release the car, they said I should pay 20k. well i knew that police are greedy and that if i challenge them, they might accuse me of a crime i know not, at the end of the day, they extorted 3k4 from me, that was my first time entering a police station and I've never committed a crime. Are they truly our friends or the other way round undecided

Sorry to hear about your experience, I've had similar, though I flatly refused to part with any money, and called their bluff.

My advice? If you can't cope with the antics of the NPF, get out of Nigeria, and stay out.

ok. From what you have said so far, it seems we have a huge problem with these police men who are corrupt and we playing to their tune cause we feel we have no other choice. The way I see it, this is a problem, we need a solution to this. We do not want this to continue happening to most everyone else these men run into. How do we solve this??

grin what i have in mind is getting a personal lawyer, I swear never to part with even a rusty 50 kobo coin again except those I give as dash, anytime it happens, I'll just call my lawyer.

@Kobojunkie,
I've heard of cases where someone wanted to claim right, they started searching and ended up finding wrapped cocaine. This guy had never seen drug b4, how did the drug get there? Those are the stuffs I always try to avoid but enough is enough.

Sorry to hear that, I think those bad men should be reported.

Provide details with NAMES and DESCRIPTIONS and post on the police web site

http://forum.nigeriapolice.org/index.php

We need to document and always report these cases to instill some fear into those crooks who use intimidation , harassment, resources of the state to extort money from us.

Further you can may report to the Police Complaints office 09-2340868.

Please be ready to follow this thru as you may be contacted.

there is nothing that these armed robbers in training are not capable of. BELIEVE IT. you have to be 100% on your guard when dealing with them.Do not allow them to search anything.Always open your stuff by yourself. My saving grace is oil co ID card, and the fact that our chief security guy is a former DPO. otherwise. . .

I know they will definitely fight back but I want to say we have to start from somewhere in fighting these issues in Nigeria. If we have to get videos ( get people with cell phones to record these things) and post it for the world to see these men as the thieves they really are. I consider that to be better than allowing them continue to rob car after car each day while we watch. You just lost $40 for not doing anything illegal. Now imagine how much more people loose each day to these goons each day in that country?

Is there a Utube for Nigerians? I mean if we could get people to record, get names of these officers and their badge numbers. If 1000 people did the same and we send this information to whoever is in charge, I am sure they will get the gist that the people are fed up and are now complaining big time. How can we do this??

you are damn luck!

Police in check-point somewhere in Lokoja/Okenne in 2000 killed all the passengers in the vehicle and set it a blaze and took all the money.

It was some famer that saw this that quickly reported to DPO; those 3 officer were finally hanged in 2002.

Police kill driver cus of N20 almost every month in Lagos.

Always have money stand-by for Nigeria Police. This is not claiming right or brave; they will kill you for nothing and say you armed robber.

OBJ wasted 8yrs nothing done and yaradua on same path; protect your life.

For me when in naija; I simply rent a 'military escort everywhere; I pay but my life is worth more.
