As for Koulibaly, his price was what drove many clubs away. Napoli wanted £90m or so. Guardiola wanted to sign him but the price was just too much for him.

United actually had the money but went for the inferior version of him. It wasn’t as if Koulibaly was affordable and no one wanted him. Plenty of clubs wanted him but weren’t able to sign him because of the high fee.

the people that can sack Ole are not here though.
I don't think sack is in their discussion as of now, rather it's more likely the board is looking for ways to appease the fans and the option is to invest in the playing squad, players they know can make the current set up compete for the title irrespective of cost.
Purchasing a competent DM and younger CF will go a long way to relax the protests. a RW and CB is rather unlikely with Pellistri, Amad and Bailly's new contract. If Tuanzebe and Mengi go out on loan, perhaps a CB comes in.

United bought Daniel James and paid a loan fee for Ighalo(in January), they could have lumped all those money together to get an elite centre half(Koulibaly).

Now we have an £80m inferior defender that needs another £60m partner to function. It’s the definition of penny wise, pound foolish.
