Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by ritchboy(m): 7:38pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
we don't need him. it's an opportunistic acquisition. if casillas/buffon were to become available for £10m tonight, rooney, chicharito and berbatov all died on the titanic 100 yrs ago. 1st? Rooney plays #10 ostensibly, Berbatov is a ghost and Hernandez and Welbeck are pants. Unless Fergie is planning on switching to 4-2-3-1 with Kagawa behind Rooney. he is the cheapest striker in the premier league @ £20m! Rephrase: "we can't afford RvP's transfer fee/WAGES + the left-back and CM we so desperately crave" |

I really dont know what to say about this RvP issue. It is a good addition as it will make us stronger but it's not really what we need at this time. I'm happy with it but not overly excited...and the look on Arsenal's fans faces though - that would be priceless. Oh well, we sold Silvestre to Arsenal without any argument. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by MrTA(m): 8:08pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
As it is, HE'll make us stronger without a doubt but I still think the right type midfielder would be better for us. Also, his age and injury record isnt great. So Im a little nervous about this transfer as I know we wont be signing anyone else so we've essentially put all our eggs in a RVP shaped basket. |

It's a sad day to be a fan of United. When we resort to buying injury-prone players who are nearly 30 years. Fergie is slowly losing it. On the other hand, I'm glad we're not paying anything around the £30 million that Wenger was holding out for |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by sleekdot(m): 8:14pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
I am dissapointed in United for making this deal. Van persie is a luxury signing it doesnt address your immediate needs. is Goal scoring Man Utds problem? Where does that leave Rooney, kagawa, Welbeck, Chicharito and berbatov? I other news E belike say bayern don sign Javi martinez ooo. Na Dayokanu dey yarn |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 8:44pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
Javi Martinez was one player I thought would have made a difference in our middle.Rhe boy is an excellent midfielder and a future world star. I woulda thought Fergie would court the boy like a ho in a red-light district.Apparently he feels the midfield as it is is ok. |

StarBoard: It's a sad day to be a fan of United. Consoling yourself eh? Wenger wasn't holding out for more than £25m, with any figure above £20m being a good deal for Arsenal. I hope he brings his injury prone nature to the theatre of divers. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by montelik(m): 9:07pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
I am hoping we haven't paid more than 20m for a 29 y/o player in the last year of his contract. not to mention the accompanying big contract he will receive. on the whole I have mixed feelings. no doubt rvp adds a significant weapon to our squad. but this is clearly a luxury signing. and I can't help but feel the outlay we will put down for this signing will have consequences for other more pressing areas of need in the immediate future. I really hope I am wrong, but we saw the same after we picked up Berba in 09. all of a sudden it was claims of no value until last summer. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by MrTA(m): 9:32pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
Its now supposed to be £15m upfront with £7m addons for RVP. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by montelik(m): 10:13pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
^ if thats true, then its a good deal. so long as the 7m add-ons aren't guaranteed but dependent on appearances, team success e.t.c. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 10:33pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
ritchboy: rooney can play as a centre forward - he once scored 34 goals playing in that position with berbatov playing behind him in 09/10 season. he could also play just behind a centre forward and score plenty of goals like he did last season - so why do we need van persie? the number of goals united scored last season should tell you we don't need van persie but then he's available - as a big club, i expect us to be acquiring quality players if they become available...
can we afford him now? ritchboy - talk now or cat got your tongue? |

at least in van persie is not a diver so with or without howard webb, united can put up a fight especially now that all eyes are on howard webb. |

Well i'm not too optimistic about this tranfer. I feel we have more pressing issues at this point and buying a VanPersie is just way off. I seriously hope someone proves me wrong though. PS: where does this leave Javier Hernandez? I assume he moves further down the pecking order. |

chicharito needs to step up his game cos fergie will be less patient with him than he has bin wit welbeck.one reason is cos welbeck is a lil younger and 2nd reason is cos welbeck is united bred n english.hernandez is probably 4th choice striker now IMO |

darefestus: Well i'm not too optimistic about this tranfer. I feel we have more pressing issues at this point and buying a VanPersie is just way off. I seriously hope someone proves me wrong though. there are enough games to go round.....rooney is injury prone. welbeck is also injury prone same as hernandez and van persie has glass legs. let's just assume van persie has replaced michael owen. fergie is out for the treble/quadruple this term. |

Mr_TA: As it is, HE'll make us stronger without a doubt but I still think the right type midfielder would be better for us. did you see tom cleverley raping the italian midfielders tonight? is there a limit to what tom cleverley can become if he remains fit? he was supremely outstanding. he murdered de rossi throughout and the media is waxing lyrical about him as we speak. we don't need a new central midfielder if cleverley can give us 34 league appearances this new season - trust me! |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 3:52am On Aug 16, 2012 |
@coogar, Don't you think Llorente would have been a better addition to the squad? Bandy-legged,biscuit-boned limbs is almost a liability. If you must replace Owen, must it be with a direct substitution in terms of worth? |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by ritchboy(m): 5:06am On Aug 16, 2012 |
coogar: can we afford him now? ritchboy - talk now or cat got your tongue? Pay attention. . . "I" never said United can't afford him. I was saying United fans seem to think his arrival means they won't get a new LB + CM. I'm curios though, how many years contract/how much basic salary? I'm hearing 4years @ 190k p/w!!! |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 5:42am On Aug 16, 2012 |
Curious about Fergie's transfer dealings this summer aside from Kagawa. Nick Powell was a third-tier striker whom he hopes to convert to a central midfielder. Now van Persie when we already have a plethora of strikers who can be effective if given necessary midfield service.Assuming I go with the logic that we don't need anyone in our middle. I woulda thought that with an impending punishment for Rio,injuries to Evans, Jones and Smalling, some kind of defensive cover would suffice.Oh I forgot, Mr reliable Carrick is there to fill in the gap till the wounded return. I would thought the obvious weak link in defence (Patrice Evra at LB) would have been addressed and he (Evra) be made to face competition of any sort to put him out of his complacent state. I woulda thought that the right back slot would also be addressed to given how error-prone and hot-headed Rafael is and Phil Jones isn't a natural there, even if he's not available for now. For those of us who think the van Persie signing strengthens us, think again. We tossed out Owen and brought in RvP.Like-for-like if you ask me:Mercenary, injury-prone and over-rated at this stage of their careers. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 8:47am On Aug 16, 2012 |
@Starboad Its obvious u havent heard the phrase 'no quality in the market'. I dont know wat to think of Fergie again, maybe he hates midfielders after the Hagreaves betrayal. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 8:55am On Aug 16, 2012 |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 9:00am On Aug 16, 2012 |
Fergie has already said he wont be getting a DM, he said he'd never had one and not looking to get one. No wonder . . .I've always felt if he really wanted one, he would have bought one. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 9:16am On Aug 16, 2012 |
I'm not talking about DM's here, chamo. A DM wouldnt fit into our system cuz our 2 midfielders shld be mobile and not just break play. I honestly think we need a Keano type player going into the new season but people like Coogar are always happy to remind us of Anderson, Fletcher and Clevs when even Fergie knows they wont last the season. As for defenders, we can cut Fergie some slack, Giggsy and Evans can act as cover for Evra. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by montelik(m): 9:31am On Aug 16, 2012 |
I myself don't feel we need a straight defensive midfielder, but we could use another central midfielder. lets face it we are going into a 3 prong attack season (ucl, epl, cups), relying on the likes of Scholes and Giggs to make a serious contribution. a few years ago the excuse was hargo would recover, ando would turn world class and we had a good crop of prospects. since then hargo is gone, fletcher has developed his own health concerns, gibson didn't pan out, ravel morrison "skosko" proved too much for united, pogba did a number on us like he did le havre, ando is still an enigma. only positive has been the potential emergence of Cleverley. Kagawa is no more a central midfielder than Rooney. We are taking a significant risk going into the season with our present midfield contigent, it can't be denied. if we don't have casualties we will be fine, but its a long hectic season with 2 players on the wrong side of 30 and others with questionmarks, there will be injuries. it will be up to the stronger facets to carry a weak central area. 1 Like |

As for defenders, we can cut Fergie some slack, Giggsy and Evans can act as cover for Evra. I'm more worried about our defence than attack. We conceded far too many goals by our standards last season, mostly as a result of the gaping hole in our midfield. The way teams were slicing our defence open was a disgrace especially at OT. A lot of teams got at our defence really easy which cost us some games/points |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 9:49am On Aug 16, 2012 |
@Chamo It depends on which way you look at it. We cld have also scored shit load of goals, we were not really ruthless in some games. Nevertheless, The defence for me isnt really a concern (maybe LB, but that is about it). With the return of Vidic, we are sorted at the back me thinks. |
