abubiggie76: Transmission Control Module TCM is the brain that comes with the gear, it controls the gear system and allow it to function automatically. It can be replaced or repair depending on the issue. You can call for more details |

domack99: It would help your sale, if you gave at least some basic detail about the issues with the transmission / TCU. No one would really want to traips all the way to see the car, and find it needs to be towed to their home. Does the car drive? Do all the gears shift? Does reverse work? Does the transmission slip, and lose drive once warm? Who diagnosed it needed a TCU reprogramme? What fault codes came up on a scan (assuming it was scanned)? |

Siena: Sorry for not responding on time, i was out of coverage area. The car moves very fine and all the gear works perfectly including the reverse. the only issue is it find it stressful to move up a slope assuming u stopped due to traffic or some other reason but without stopping it will ride on perfectly. The issue being that the brain box do not return to gear one automatically while at rest but sometimes it will and most times it will not. |

domack99: Going by the highlighted part of your post, replacing / re-programming the TCU will not solve your issues. The issues with your trans are internal, so we're talking hydraulic / valve body issues. |

Siena:. I got the car late last year and i took it for servicing, according to the mechanic he said he notice that the gear oil was leaking, he told me he mended the place but have to top up the oil but unfortunately he replace with the wrong oil. The car start moving sluggishly and in the event of trouble shooting and moving it up and down, the gear finally packed up according to another mechanic that specialize in Renault, he said the valve body is gone. I bought another gear that is compatible with the laguna but the problem persist until we are able to get a TCU from another old french car before the car start responding. We couldn't get the TCU for the car because Renault are not common in Nigeria and the new model Renault TCU are not compatible with it. hopefully if we re-program the one we got, the vehicle might be in a perfect condition again. |

domack99: Which car exactly did the replacement transmission come from? In this context, compatible means closest to the correct one, but NOT the correct one. domack99: A TCU from another French car?? Which car did the TCU come from? The only French cars I know besides Renault are Citroën and Peugeot, and their TCU's are NOT the same as that of the Renault. The TCU has to be able to "talk" to the ECU. If the communication protocols are even slightly different, the replacement TCU will NOT work. Even a TCU from another Renault will not be compatible with your car, if the engines are different. You can get up to three different TCU's on the same car with different part numbers, and they won't work. How your "mechanic" expected a TCU from a different car to work is beyond me. If I recall correctly, I DID locate the correct TCU for your car, and offered to procure and ship to you, but it would appear you've chosen a very different path. |
