The U-20 women national team on Friday proceeded on a two-week break after four weeks of serious grilling under the watchful eyes of Chief Coach, Edwin Okon.

The first phase of screening was rounded off with a friendly match against the U-17 women national team at the FIFA Goal Project Centre on Thursday evening which the Falconets won
2-1.

Over 60 girls were screened by the coaches to ascertain their competence level with only 30 retained.

The lucky ones would have been in Freetown, Sierra Leone by now for this Saturday’s (February 18) FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier first leg against the Sierra Leone U-20
Women national team who withdrew a fortnight ago.

Addressing the girls, Director (Technical) of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr. Emmanuel
Ikpeme charged the girls to remain committed and disciplined. He added that their form must not detoriate while on recess.

“The expectations concerning the team are very high simply because two years ago we reached the final of the championship. So this time around, we cannot afford to go lower,” he warned.
