House, Can anyone provide information regarding CBN Open Market Operations and CBN Bills. 1. How do these instruments work? 2. Can Individuals purchase these securities utilizing instructions sent to their banks? (same method with Treasury Bill auctions) 3. What is the minimum requirement amounts? 4. When are the offer dates (schedule of upcoming auctions) 5. Is interest paid upfront or at maturity? |

tchiwinnie:YES! ONCE YOU'VE REGISTERED FOR THE T.BILLS AND YOUR BID IS SUCCESSFUL WITH PROOF OF INVESTMENT GIVEN TO YOU FROM YOUR CHOSEN BANK, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE- EXCEPT TAKING NOTE OF WHEN IT WILL MATURE. SECONDLY, DEPENDING ON THE INVESTMENT HOUSE OR BANK USED AND AS A NOVICE, IT IS ADVISABLE TO GO WITH THE BANK RATE AT LEAST FOR NOW..... TILL YO GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE ON IT. BUT SOME SOME BANKS, LIKE FBN THAT I HAVE USED TWICE DOESN'T ACCEPT INDIVIDUAL BIDDING. THEY HAVE TO DO THE BIDDING ON BEHALF OF THE CUSTOMERS. AND I MUST TELL YOU THAT THEIR RATE IS ALWAYS GOOD.... FOR MY BRANCH THOUGH. 1 Like 1 Share |

Royal155:By terminating b4 expiration won't u be charged some fee. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 8:21pm On Jun 18, 2015 |
FKBZ:I AM NOT TERMINATING BUT JUST TO GIVE THEM NOTICE OF TERMINATION UPON MATURITY AND RE-INVESTING FOR A YEAR. THAT'S JUST IT. YOU KNOW I'M SUPPOSED TO GIVE TWO WEEKS NOTICE BEFORE MATURITY, SO THAT IS WHAT I INTEND TO DO |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by billtommy(m): 8:59pm On Jun 18, 2015 |
Royal155: Pls answer the question "assuming you are terminating what and what would you have to do" |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 10:43pm On Jun 18, 2015 |
billtommy:IF YOU WANT TO OUTRIGHTLY TERMINATE THE T.BILL BEFORE THE MATURITY DATE, THEN YOU HAVE TO GO AND ENQUIRE FROM YOUR BANK IF THEY CAN DO IT. NB: THIS WILL ATTRACT A FEE(DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL PERCENTAGE COS I'VE NOT DONE THAT) SECONDLY, IF FOR INSTANCE, YOU INVESTED FOR 91 DAYS TO ROLL THE CAPITAL OVER FOR ANOTHER 91 DAYS WHEN IT MATURES. AND YOU LATER DECIDED TO TERMINATE IT UPON MATURITY(LIKE I JUST DID), THEN YOU HAVE TO CONTACT YOU BANK LATEST 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE MATURITY DATE. THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO DO, NOT TO OUTRIGHTLY TERMINATE T.BILL. 2 Likes |

AhmadMind: The answer to your question is "Interest rate parity concept". It show the relationship between exchange rate a day interest rate in a country in comparism to another country. |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by MrMarcus(m): 12:56pm On Jun 20, 2015 |
Chillisauce:"" I did GTB 365days.. summited personal bid of 12.75% GTB Anthony Village Ikeja through my account officer and CBN closing rate was 12.8%.. Thus, bid was successful. Depends on your specified minimum bid rate and if you are going with bank rate.. then u take whatever they tell u or give you..simply because you weren't in charge of your bidding. My advice, next bidding be in charge of your bid... Take a lil risk even though I see no risk at all..nobody is taking your money even if you loose out on closing bids. Go thru CBN website, check up the rates for various tenors in at least the last four or five previous bid listings.. Then you can predict the boundary bids for the next bidding. if you have decided on your rate, Then write to your bank thru. any of its branches giving them an order to purchase T. Bills for you on a specified bid and tenor. That way, they dare not default cos u can actually sue dem assuming u are bidding with lots of cash. Simply because YOU ARE IN CHARGE!!! 1 Like |

MrMarcus: My dear, I have fought the war of bidding for myself but they said I have to go with the bank rate. For the moment, I don't even have my bvn no. So I'm playing by their rules for now until I get all necessary contacts and security nos. |
