Cool rates,is it possible to submit a bid with these rates tomorrow if i walk into the bank?

I got this message from their contact page after i made an inquiry

"The next treasury bill bid will be on the 16th January 2019.You are to send a writing and signed instruction to your account officer stating the amount and tenor bid before close of business on the 15th January 2019"
the statement in red is for primary market.

Kindly pardon my ignorance regarding the question am about to ask.

70 days gives 13.5% while 357 gives 14.5%

Imagine I got 13.5% after 70 days, I'm thinking I can invest about 4 times (70 days ) in 357 days. And get 4 x 13.5% interests

Am I wrong?

You need TB 101 lectures.. Read the first few pages...

All interest rate are on annual basis.
Whatever your annual interest is, divide by 365 and multiply by the number of days

Please note that the rate quoted is for secondary market however, your account officer is referring to primary market. You can always get secondary market rate in your bank.

it is. Honestly, these rates are far better than keeping ur money in savings accounts or even fixed deposits. Though, you can always get better rate from primary market.

I appreciate everyone that takes time in making meaningful contribution and making this forum what it is today. please let us desist from ridiculing others contributors opinion,we scare people from sharing their views with such behavior. We learn from one another, every contributions makes me think, learn and review what i think i know. I started following this forum when it was in page 35 and i have learnt a lot and still learning. But it griefs my heart when we ridicule those trying to makes us see things from diff perspectives. We have lost great minds in this forum base on this attitude, please let us have a mind of a "LEANER". Let us be objective in our cases without ridiculing others opinion . All contributions is important, it is only kids that want to be right at all times. Come to think of it what trophy is in there for the winner so to say. Please state your case, learn from others, make your observation and move on. Please let us learn to respect one another.

God Bless o jare. I made this point a few pages back when a similar debate was raging over TBs vs saving in hard currency.

Truth is, when it comes to such economic issues, there's usually no right or wrong, its usually just a matter of perspectives. One may have all the facts and figures and come to particular valid conclusion, but another can use those same figures and arrive at an equally tenable but different conclusion. Hence the usual joke about asking for opinions on one issue from five economists and getting six different answers.

I, like a lot of others, have benefited immensely from this thread, so tay I dey form 'investment advisor' for my office grin, but it has largely come from the rich and varied perspectives from the brilliant minds that have contributed to this thread.

Not to belabour the point, but it would do us a whole good to be more accommodating to others' contribution, whether we agree or not. peace

I walked into an Ecobank branch in Lagos on Tuesday and filled the form to purchase treasury bills. I was told the form will be scanned to my bank outside of Lagos to have it purchased. I just put a call through to my branch outside Lagos and the customer care officer told me they received my form, but are yet to bid because they have not received bid for this week.
He was trying to convince me to go for fixed deposit saying it was almost the same rates. He wasn't sounding like they planned on putting any effort soon to purchase the T.Bills.
My question is how can I speed up the process of getting this T. Bills. Thank you

Fair deal. I'm wondering if next week's Primary rate will be better to wait for or just go for secondary market today

Afternoon guys

I obtained a tbills form from stanbic today in anticipation on the upcoming primaries.
Kindly throw in your suggestions what rate one can assume to get for 365days with less percent chance of it falling through.
I'm thinking of bidding at 14.5%. What's your stance?

Simple especially with GTB. If you already have a current account with GTB, you are profiled for internet banking, you can open a dom account right at your desk. Login to your account online click additional account and choose the type, that is all. you don't even need cash. However you have to fund it before 6 months otherwise it will be dormant. From what I was told when I did same, no interest cos by default your dom account is current according to the - GTB. Hope this help

Very helpful, thanks

Hi all, I initially did an investment in TBills and it hasn't matured yet but I got a little change now and I want to lock it down in TBills again, is it possible to have two TBillz like this or I have to wait until the first one matures before investing again, thanks

You can only bid with your own rate if you have N50m and above otherwise, you will have to make do with whatever rate the bank bids at the primary market.
