I not only second this public service announcement,I "third" it, Fed staff is not your average GH, its a private/public patnership kind of setting so you receive a private hospital care with a marginal price difference from a public health facility.

Its 1k to register,each visit is 1k for PCV and urinalysis, 8k for ANC comprehensive test and on or before 28wks you are required to pay 30k for a VB delivery.

If you don't require a CS(120k) all your care won't get up to 50k

Option B;
District Hospital Gwarinpa,closer to you, same facilities as Fed staff, great hospital (my friend's neighbour's barely 7mths baby was delivered and saved by the NICU) but the
CROWD is as is usual with GHs.

Registration is N500, routine visits is N200, test can't get to more than 3-4k, VB is 5k and CS is 40k.... Immunisation of the baby is free unlike fed staff that charges.

thanks a lot @ Modath. Federal staff is abt 20 mins away from me if not more dats why I was seeking for other options. Infact dats the hospital I ve been using even when I went there while I was having morning sickness. I don't intend to deliver my baby there, I just need to register for antenatal checkup only. Since am required to pay for delivery fee at 28weeks, how do I avoid it since I won't be birthing there. Will they allow me to continue antenatal without the payment. And pls which day of the week do dey register new people for antenatal? Thanks a lot

I had a terrible experience when i gave birth because i wasnt expecting to give birth that day (gave birth at 34weeks), my bags were not packed and DH wasnt arround. A friend had to break our house door to pack all the items(the ones for hospital and not). hmmm,it wasnt funny. My baby used another baby's pampers and wears before my items arrived ni o.

I never tot to ask until all these big baby deliveries and talks started around me. He measured twice, first was 32 weeks, second was 31 weeks 6 days.

He tried to downplay my concern tho. He said it's the size at 36 weeks that the baby will be born with.

Don't give yourself a high BP over this non issue. 95 % of the time, you cant control baby's in vitro size/weight, just eat a balanced moderate diet.

I know its CS that is bothering you but no one has told you you're having one, macrosomic babies aren't the only reason for a CS, one of my friends had one cos labour wasn't progressing, another had full grade placenta previa and was cut open for a barely 3kg baby.

People push out big babies all the time, its a narrow pelvic structure that can be a problem.

Don't stress yasef abeg, did a scan @ 32weeks dt gave me 30wks with weight of 1.5kg was so scared of low birth weight, did anoda @ 39+2 dt said 3.8kg alas baby boy came @ 39+3 weighing 4.4kg. As long as other parameters are fine, don't worry yasef

at my end, anomaly scan is a MUST.

i actually like the idea of the anomaly scan cos you are shown everything - your baby's heart, bladder, lungs, nose, legs, mouth, hands, spine, etc.

it is also good for detecting any birth defects so that the medical personnel can prepare for an early intervention as soon as the baby is born. For example, a friend had a baby with cleft lip that was detected during the anomaly scan. Plans were made for surgey before the baby was born and within 2weeks after the baby's birth, the surgery was all over and done.

Now, i understand why the NHS only carries out two scans - one at 12 weeks (called the dating scan) and the anomaly scan around 20weeks. You will only get more scans if its a high risk pregnancy or there are any discomfort or complications or bleeding, etc during the course of the pregnancy.

I read stories here of people getting scans done at 4weeks, 6 weeks, etc!! There is nothing to be seen at that stage. No wonder some women have been advised wrongly of ''no fetal pole'' and asked to get an abortion when in actual fact, the baby is still developing. Here, you won't get a scan till at least 12 weeks oh! Even if you decide to go for a private ultrasound at your own expense - the earliest you can get if you are very lucky is 10-11 weeks. Infact, my first midwife appointment around 6weeks or so (where a file was opened for me and they took my medical history, husband's medical history, weight, BP, etc), the midwife did not even TOUCH my belly. The only skin contact was when she took my BP.

What was your due date as at the time the first scan was done? The scan around 12 weeks is usually the most accurate dating scan and here the sonographers wont bother during subsequent scans to check/give you another due date. the only cross-check the baby's growth against the due date to ensure that the baby is growing normally.

They do not bother with subsequent scans because if baby is big - there is nothing that can be done to stop the growth,so why give the mother unnecessary stress. Besides, medical personnel are on standby for any emergency (for example, if CS is required) on the date of delivery.

Please go with the date given to you at your previous scan and stop worrying yourself about your baby's weight. Eat a healthy and balanced diet . . . . thats all that matters.

Team mate, to be honest I have not bought one new thing. I bought clothings while I was ttc for 8years of various sizes n years and dats all I have got for now. I have plans of shopping next month. Lucky you at least u are half way done. God will help us all.

You are very right about anomaly scan but i'm yet to come across any Nigerian doctor recommend it, I had to go to the scan center myself and request for one even when I took the result back to my doctor he was only concerned about baby growth I had to check other stuffs online myself. In Naija here internet and groups like dis is far better than some hospitals may God help us all. I hail all o

Most patient in luth r sent for scan btw 20-22weeks to detect anomaly. Patient don't knw wat it's all abat cos questions r nt asked. Sure ur consultant or d doc dat saw u took time to explain. Did mine @21weeks, pls kindly do for LO's sake. God b wit us all. One love
