Is There Harmattan In Your Area? by Joey82(m): 9:56am On Mar 17, 2012 |
Just woke up yesterday to a serious haze and so much breeze in Minna, the dryness could be felt all over the place. The haze continued today and in the early morning, vehicles had to put on their head lamps to see a distance. its odd to have harmattan in these parts at the time of the year. Could it be an effect of global warming? |

It is a result of the drought sent by the west to curb boko haram activities. If you are a Christia, start running like Usain Bolt. |

Over here in benue we are also experiencing the harmatan haze, though not as harsh as that of Jan-Feb. Its surely a welcome relief from the soaring heat of the past few weeks. |

Its worst here in kaduna and it has been like that for 5 days now. Its so weired n strange to experience harmattan @ this time of the yr when we should be preparing for rains. Hope this will not lead to drought or floods this yr because Nigeria won't recover from it with all this problem on ground already. 1 Like |

Thank God some other people have noticed too. Down here in New Bussa, it's all cold with chilly winds (especially very early in mornings). Atleast, it's be'a than the heat. |

0 Joey82: Just woke up yesterday to a serious haze and so much breeze in Minna, the dryness could be felt all over the place. Well, considering lost vegetation from much of the country in the last 30 years, no one ought to be surprised that the weather keeps getting weirder and weirder. Over the last couple of years, people have so easier cut down trees for their selfish gain. Even government turned a blind eye to much of these acts, even with much of the warnings of the consequences. I remember back when the middle-belt at least got descent amounts of rain way back when. States like Kwara/Plateau/Benue/Niger still had some decent rains each year, but about 10 years ago, there were reports that the deserts were slowly encroaching these states too. Some scientists suggested tree planting, and discouraging people from cutting down trees but not much of that happened. Back in the days, we used to plant trees to help but it seems no one is interested in all that these days. So enjoy the change and understand that the problem is more likely as a result of local negligence and not some foreign entities activities. |
