1st Bank is the proverbial one eyed king in the land of the blind. I'd still rather bank with them and sleep with my two eyes closed, despite their shortcomings! |

The charges are very negligible, when you make online transfer to another bank for instance up to N400K the charge is less than N48, my friend use the naira master card to pay for an international exam and the charges is an equivalent of $1 - $2 |

I have no issues when people discuss a monopolized industry (e.g. Power) but it is disgusting when people discuss companies where there are options. Too me, it always seems like someone from the competition is probably doing it to paint the company black if not I think you should just move on instead of coming here. I have also seen a lot of discussions on Telecoms companies too especially MTN. I believe none of these companies have tied you down and there are options. It’s a matter of choice, quality or quantity, reliable/slow service or porous/good service…….. I don’t even see any reason why anyone should go to bank for transaction when you have ATM, POS, Internet Transfer with instant InterBank options, Cheque etc. Nairaland use to be a forum for serious discussion and I wonder what the moderators are doing these days. |

doctokwus: You should go to complain. If the machine counted the money and didn't dispense, they would always see it from the e-journal that cash wasn't dispensed and they would return it. Please go to your bank and complain. |

stalwartnaija: Quality customer relationship and service delivery is one business principle that Nigerian companies lack. Be they banks, telcos, or even roadside traders - all are poor when it comes to providing service that is pleasing to the customer. For the banks they are more concerned about generating deposit and creating income disregarding the fact that all these will come when you serve your customers well. Anyway, these things do happen in an undeveloped market like ours. Coming to First Bank, it took me one full year to receive their welcome package when I opened an account with them. You are very right on point. I have been writing MTN over my challenges with their BB service and nothing has been done despite my BIS subscription still active. |

saxywale: I opened a fidelity bank account not long ago, I went into the branch 3 weeks after to demand for the terms and conditions of the account, the customer Service officer smiled and asked what I meant by terms and conditions, true story ..Talk of medicine after death. You already signed a contract and you now decide to read the conditions much later. |

challawa: i was so much disappointed with first bank today, they lack competent staff and there service delivery is terribleFallacy of hasty generalization, let us know which branch u had that experience at. It isn't the same everywhere. You can always lodge a complaint with the contact centre, rather than come online to post this. |

You wey go open account no know the kind account wey u open and the terms and conditions attached to it. I was a CSO at a new generation Bank and the questions some people ask makes u want to slap them but of course u are suppose to smile to every foolish question. I think that's what that officer was doing. 1 Like |

I made a report at their head office on Tuesday 27, 2012 and she said i shld wait 4 three days up till now nothing as been done. The machine didn't dispense cash and you were credited. Your statement alone is enough for them to ask u to wait 3yrs. |

I have account with four banks. Honestly, first bank is the only sewrious bank in Nigeria. All others are just glorified Osusu houses. When it comes to ATM, all the banks suck. From Zenith to GTB, UBA, Eko, etc, they all suck when it comes to ATM. They all use mostly very old machines. Diamond has started deploying some touch screen machines and they are nice. First bank and Zenith have slightly recent machines. First bank was the first to start ATM machines that can receive cash. GTB started it six months after first bank. But overall, Zenith has the best ATM service. For customer service, I will give it to either UBA or GTB. But I still have issues with GTB trying to automate customer service. There are issues you can't resolve on phone. You need to talk to someone sometimes. The worst banks in terms of service delivery are Eko and Access. Ironically, Oceanic and Intercontoinental where doing fairly well before they were taking over by Eko and Access. |

Re: There Is No Credible Bank In Nigeria, The Worst Of Them Is First Bank by Nobody: 9:18am On Apr 05, 2012 |
high-chief: Olodo rabata, quack cso indeed, u must be a cretin. So you think a customer would just pay you a visit then open an account with your bank without some prior knowledge of what he wants. I only opened the account cos it was one of the few savings account in Nigeria that accepts cheque payment through clearing. Really sanusi needs to do a lot of work, you lot must think the customers are stupid. oayombo: What do u mean by welcome package? This oga doesn't even know what is meant by a welcome pack. LOL. I am sure he's a customer service manager in a naija bank. Let me educate you just as I educated the lad at the Fidelity bank, when you open a bank account, even if It's the most basic the bank offers, you are sent the welcome pack which includes, a thank you letter, how to use the account, what to expect from the account, small prints/t&c of the account. This is sent after necessary risk and kyc checks must have been carried out. It could take a week or two to come by post in Advanced countries, you might need to obtain the pack in a Nigeria branch. |
