The problem with statistics is how easy it is to obfuscate instead of elucidate with them.

What a coach does is introduce playing patterns in both attack and defence. And react appropriately with good in-game reading and management to situations as matches happen.

Against Villa in particular our play was incoherent and very predictable, we had very little actual threat, and most of what we did create was down to individual brilliance as against any consistent playing patterns.
