Android17:See chief the reason why we are defending busquets is not really vs rodri, I personally believe rodri has the temerity to be the more recognized CDM by the time he hangs his boot since he's playing under a great coach and the best team in Europe currently but that doesn't mean we'll allow every disrespect over him to slide just like how each and every one of us will do to each of our favorite players and club legends, Busquets is like one of the few 21st century pioneer, a forerunner to the 2 in 1 (Regista + Defensive midfielder who actually did lots of defensive work for others to operate) roles the new cats like Rodri and co are improving on to bypass him 1 Like |

Kilishihunter:The DM position covers two profiles, the destroyer/ ball-winner and the DLP/ Controller profiles. Busquets is more of a destroyer even though he has playmaking capabilities, which was more visible in his game in the latter stages of his career. Pirlo on the other hand was more of a DLP than a destroyer. They call them regista in Italy Busquets was better than Pirlo defensively, but everything else Pirlo kill am. 3 Likes |

Fulham have slapped a massive £90M price tag on João Palhinha as West Ham target the midfielder to replace Declan Rice. This is mad, to think we thought Palhinha would be an easier acquisition. Football needs to regulate how much a player is sold, a player shouldn't be valued double there market value. Some players suffer from such outrageous evaluations by their clubs |

pkasso:No wahala chief, But if we are going to compare pirlo with another player it has to be with somebody more advanced and offensive in his gameplay cause he's nowhere as good defensively as busquets while the latter too isn't as good as Pirlo with moving the ball to wide and key areas, Pirlo was a CDM who played mostly like a CM, DLP like you said, Same role as Xabi Alonso and jorginho |

andrewbaba44:England were obsessed with playing 8's and B2B midfield runners. Their stupid managers would try to shoehorn Scholes, Lampard Gerrard in their 442. going as far as playing Scholes at LM. Carrick was a different breed of DM, and the coaches couldn't see what was in front of them. If he was Spanish, he would get the same hype as Busquets. Even till today, Southgate still laments the dearth of ball-playing 6's in English football. The only one close enough is Rice, and his passing and build-up play is average. |

pkasso: Maybe to set it up to suit Gerard ans lampard England managers and their set ups sha ,South Gate don copy pep Dey play arnold for midfield Even gareth Barry was more regular for the national team than carrick ,not taking anything away from Barry though Michael carrick is one of the most underrated English player out there |

andrewbaba44:Even me wey no be coach know say that setup no fit work. Lamps and Stevie G had similar profiles. It should have been one of them, not both. Their Golden Generation would have done a lot better, if they had better coaches. World-class talent from front to back. Just imagine someone like Klopp or even Tuchel handling that team. Na die. Even the Capello they brought in was too old-school, dey carry 90's tactics when football was heading in another direction. Everybody dey try different systems, but England still dey play old-school 442. Barry na your stereotypical hardworking, strong English midfielder. He had a bit of technique, but was nowhere near Carrick. Rice is the closest thing to him in today's England team. |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by andrewbaba44: 8:41pm On Jun 20, 2023 |
pkasso: Capello wey Dey implement tactics like septuagenarian then They wasted their golden generation ,I think it was only the Spanish that have better talents than them then ,they weren’t even far apart They have another golden generation now ,South Gate have done his best though ,they are only behind France and Portugal in terms of talent ,but i still think they won’t still win anything ,a tactically sound coach would have destroyed Italy at the euro 2020 final 1 Like |

andrewbaba44:This generation no Golden kan kan, maybe Bronzed sha Kane is the only true world-class player they have. Rashford, Sterling, Grealish are just pretenders. I have high hopes for Foden and Saka though. England have been really good these last few years. It's just been a matter of getting over the line. Southgate dey try, even if most people won't agree. 2 Likes |

Android17: I was very sure about my response “Dey play”. Be it against inter Milan, real Madrid or Genk or fc twente, there is no way Rodri will get the nod ahead of Busquet under Pep. Somethings are just impossible to imagine. Busquet is an embodiment of pep guardiola philosophy. Rodri is a lesser version of Busquet,so are you telling me Pep Guardiola will use a lesser version when there is the real version in the most important game? And about the issue of Walker,i had wanted to ask you since the UCL finals but i decided to let the sleeping dog 🐕 lie but since you brought it up, then i will be force to ask you how does it sound that Walker whom you claim is the most IMPORTANT player to pep guardiola set up in this current city side is left to sit on the bench in the most IMPORTANT game of pep guardiola and the club? 1 Like |

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been approached by two Saudi Arabia clubs. Talks are yet to start with the #Chelsea winger. It's unclear if Hudson-Odoi would be open to a move. [via @FabrizioRomano] finished player ☠️. I'm seriously happy for saudi Arabia league revolution,it is better than buying rival clubs and making them stronger ,plus they're taking all our deadwoods. So we may have to compartmentalize your argument. I answered that question last season and it was proven many times especially when City lost to RM in the UCL SF last season. This season, Pep changed again and in the new setup Walker became less critical or vital. Pep not only said it publicly, Walker had to field questions related to it. |

Kilishihunter:Busquets is more press-resistant than Rodri for example and that skill is a differentiator and why, IMHO Busquets was perfect for the original Pep system. But is Busquets good at handling the second ball or duels for headers? How strong was he one versus one? Rodri has more of those in his repertoire and as we would later see about that Barca, strong, agile, physical teams that used the second ball gave them a lot of problems. That problem does not affect City as much and that is largely because of Rodri. That Barca team was a specialist team but this City team is like a Swiss army knife and I think Busquets and Rodri are microcosms of those attributes. Barca had to be perfect to win games (and of course, they were perfect most of the time) but this City could win games playing poorly because they found other ways to contribute and that is representative of Busquets and Rodri. Busquets is more of a natural than Rodri but he [Sergio] becomes a liability when his press resistance, quick-thinking and sleek short passes are not needed in a game (like when the team needs to score to win or come back from a deficit). But Rodri has found ways to contribute even when not playing at his best and he is absolutely lethal at headers from set-pieces and long-range shots (think Aston Villa vs City season decider) and so on. Busquets is the original. Without him there is no Rodri but the evolution of soccer has fossilized his way of doing things. Rodri is the version of Busquets that has adapted to the modern game. You can decide which you prefer depending on how you want to play or who is playing against you. Forgive my word salad abeg. 1 Like 1 Share |
