I feel why he was hyped was because of the immediate impact he had on the Liverpool defence. Liverpool b4 VVD concedes goal left right and center, even tho Mane and salah was scoring. When vvd arrived, the amount of goals conceded per game reduced drastically. So if you're a Liverpool fan, you'll really feel the improvement. He carried the form over to last season too, and added the record of a defender not beaten/dribbled past for the highest minutes throughout a season, both domestically and in Europe. Ramos is a great defender but he never had a season that beat VVD's last season. That's a fact, Madrid were lucky to have attackers that scored over 100 goals to mask the leaky defence led by Ramos that year in Laliga.



In that season, Godin led his team to win the league, conceding fewest in the league. He was so good that he was the laliga player of the month twice, consecutively. A feat Pique and Ramos never achieved, but they would hand them the defender of the year, because they were Spaniards. Nonsense.
